Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 508 : Story 508: Sunlit Terror
The sun blazed down over the desolate streets, casting long, distorted shadows of the undead as they shuffled and lurched forward. The ZETU team arrived on the scene, their tactical vehicle screeching to a halt in the middle of the eerily silent neighborhood. The golden glow of the morning sun provided no comfort—it only highlighted the grotesque state of the zombies emerging from every corner.
"This is a hot zone," muttered Captain Marcus Kane, adjusting his shotgun. "They're not even waiting for nightfall anymore."
Ethan "Brain" O'Connor scanned the area from inside the vehicle, his drone feed showing clusters of infected closing in from three directions. "They're converging fast. We've got maybe five minutes before they overrun us."
"Then we hit them hard and fast," Kane said. "Quick Shot, find high ground. Blaze, get the flamethrower ready. Shield, you're with me for crowd control. Huntress, circle around and secure any survivors."
"Got it, Captain," replied Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett, already climbing a rusted fire escape to a nearby rooftop.
The team spread out, their movements sharp and purposeful. Jenna "Blaze" Hart ignited her flamethrower with a menacing hiss, flames licking the air as the first wave of zombies came into view.
"They're runners," Blaze called out, tightening her grip. "Everyone stay sharp!"
The first runner—a grotesque figure with tattered clothes and decayed skin stretched tight over its bones—let out a guttural growl as it charged straight at Derek "Shield" Coleman. With a grunt, Derek raised his reinforced shield, sending the creature flying backward into a group of shufflers.
"Nice one, Shield!" Huntress said over the comms as she darted between alleyways, her dual pistols picking off stragglers. She spotted movement inside a partially collapsed house. "I've got potential survivors. Moving in!"
Meanwhile, Riley perched on the edge of a crumbling rooftop, her sniper rifle zeroed in on the thickest part of the horde. "Captain, they're grouping near the marketplace. If we don't thin them out now, we're toast."
"Take the shot, Quick Shot," Kane ordered.

Riley's rifle cracked, a bullet piercing through the head of a particularly large zombie. Its collapse triggered chaos as others stumbled and tripped over its body.
In the marketplace, Blaze unleashed a torrent of fire, her flames turning the advancing runners into ash. But the heat was intense, and sweat poured down her face as she struggled to maintain control.
"Blaze, fall back!" Kane barked, firing his shotgun into a cluster of undead.
"I'm fine, Captain!" she shot back, her voice tense but determined.
Suddenly, Huntress's voice came through the comms. "Captain, I've found survivors—three of them. They're injured but alive."
"Good work, Huntress," Kane replied. "Brain, direct evac. We'll hold the line until you're clear."
As the sun continued to rise, the ZETU team held their ground, their weapons blazing against the relentless horde. The bright light of day only served to illuminate the horror, but they fought on, knowing every second counted.
