Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 2127: Story : The First Watcher
The clouds exploded apart.
A massive spiral of wind tore through the sky as the descending shape forced its way down from the storm above the ruined city.
Elena Voss staggered backward as hurricane-force air blasted through the streets.
Broken glass and metal signs ripped loose from buildings.
Dust storms spiraled through the empty avenues.
The watcher was coming.
Fast.
The guardian creature grabbed Elena’s arm.
“Get behind the shell!”
The armored beast had already moved.
Its colossal body shifted forward, placing itself between Elena and the sky.
The enormous shell angled upward like a fortress wall.
Its amber eyes burned with ancient fury as it watched the sky open.
Elena could barely breathe as the air pressure crushed down on the city.
“What is that thing?” she shouted over the wind.
The guardian’s voice was grim.
“One of the watchers.”
Above them, the descending shape finally broke through the clouds.
Elena’s heart nearly stopped.
The creature was enormous.
Far larger than the seeker that had tested her.
Its body was long and skeletal, formed from twisting bone-like structures that moved like living branches.
Two gigantic wings stretched across the sky, each one ragged and torn like ancient sails.
But they were not feathers.
They were something darker.
Something alive.
The watcher’s body seemed to absorb the light around it, turning the sky dim as it descended.
Its eyes burned with cold violet fire. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
And they were locked directly on Elena.
The guardian whispered under his breath.
“It found you.”
The watcher screamed.
The sound was unbearable.
A piercing metallic howl that shattered windows across the city and made the ground vibrate.
Elena dropped to her knees, covering her ears.
The armored beast answered immediately.
It roared.
A deep, thunderous sound that shook the air itself.
The two ancient creatures stared at each other across the ruined city.
Predator and guardian.
The watcher hovered above the buildings, its enormous wings beating slowly as it studied the massive armored beast standing in its path.
Then the voice came.
Not spoken aloud.
Inside Elena’s mind.
Keeper of the door.
She froze.
The voice was colder than anything she had ever felt.
Older than death.
Her chest burned as the scar pulsed again.
“I didn’t open it!” she shouted desperately.
The watcher’s violet eyes flared brighter.
The door breathes within you.
The guardian stepped forward, his claws extended.
“She holds it closed!”
The watcher’s gaze shifted toward him briefly.
A moment of ancient recognition passed between them.
Then it returned to Elena.
All doors fail eventually.
The armored beast stomped forward, shaking the ground.
It placed itself fully between Elena and the watcher.
Its massive shell blocked her from the sky.
The guardian whispered urgently.
“It won’t attack yet.”
Elena looked up at him.
“Why?”
His voice was quiet.
“Because watchers judge first.”
The wind suddenly stopped.
The watcher slowly lowered itself closer to the rooftops.
The entire city seemed to hold its breath.
Then the massive creature spoke again inside Elena’s mind.
If the door cannot be destroyed...
Its violet eyes narrowed.
Then the keeper must be.
The armored beast roared again and lunged forward.
The ground exploded beneath its claws.
The first battle between the ancient guardian of the earth...
and the watcher from beyond the sky...
had begun.
And Elena Voss stood at the center of it all.
Because the watchers had finally chosen their answer.
If the door could not be opened...
They would erase the one who held it shut.
