Chapter 2125: Story 2125: The Ancient That Remembers

The colossal creature did not attack.

It simply watched.

Its massive amber eyes burned like twin suns in the cracked remains of its armored skull as it studied Elena Voss.

The ruined city felt suddenly very small.

Elena could hear the creature breathing.

Each inhale sounded like wind rushing through a canyon.

Each exhale shook loose dust from nearby buildings.

She swallowed nervously.

“Why is it just... staring at me?”

The guardian creature stood rigid beside her, every muscle in his body tense.

“Because it recognizes something,” he said quietly.

The enormous beast lowered its head further, its armored plates grinding softly against one another.

The movement alone made the pavement tremble.

Elena took a step back.

“What could it possibly recognize?”

The guardian didn’t look away from the towering monster.

“The door.”

Elena touched the faint scar on her chest again.

The crooked eye mark was invisible now.

But the moment her fingers brushed the skin, it tingled.

As if something beneath it had suddenly awakened.

The giant creature reacted instantly.

Its amber eyes flared brighter.

A deep rumble escaped its throat.

The sound wasn’t aggressive.

It was... curious.

Elena froze.

“I think it felt that.”

“Yes,” the guardian muttered.

“And it remembers.”

The beast slowly lifted its head, studying her from above like an ancient judge examining a fragile thing from a forgotten age.

The ground creaked beneath its enormous weight.

Elena whispered, “Remembers what?”

The guardian’s voice was heavy.

“A time before the world died.”

The creature shifted again.

Its massive claw lifted and slowly settled onto the street.

The asphalt collapsed beneath its weight like wet paper.

But the movement was careful.

Measured.

Not the action of a predator.

More like the patience of something ancient observing a rare event.

Then something impossible happened.

The beast bowed its head slightly.

Elena blinked.

“Did it just—”

“Yes,” the guardian said quietly.

“It did.”

Her confusion deepened.

“Why would something that big bow to me?”

The guardian finally turned toward her.

“Because you are not just human anymore.”

The wind stirred through the broken city.

Above them, gray clouds rolled slowly across the sky.

The giant creature’s amber gaze never left Elena.

Then the ground trembled again.

But this time...

The tremor didn’t come from the beast.

It came from far away.

Elena noticed it first.

A distant vibration moving through the earth like a ripple spreading through water.

The armored creature noticed too.

Its enormous head lifted slightly.

The calm curiosity in its eyes changed instantly.

Now there was tension.

Awareness.

The guardian’s expression darkened.

“Oh no.”

Elena turned to him.

“What is it?”

He looked toward the far horizon where the ruined world stretched endlessly beyond the city.

“They’re coming.”

Another tremor rolled across the land.

This one much stronger.

Far above the clouds, a distant shadow passed across the sun.

The armored beast let out a deep rumbling growl.

Not fear.

Not anger.

Warning.

Elena looked up toward the sky.

“You mean the seekers?”

The guardian nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

The giant creature behind them shifted its massive body, turning toward the distant horizon as if preparing for something.

Its enormous claws dug into the cracked street.

The guardian’s voice dropped to a whisper.

“And this time...”

Another shadow moved across the clouds above the city.

Much larger than the first seeker.

Much darker.

“...they’re not coming to test the door.”

Elena felt the faint scar on her chest begin to burn again.

Because somewhere beyond the clouds...

Something far more powerful had just discovered where the keeper of the door was standing.
