Holy Necromancer: Rebirth of the Strongest Mage-Chapter 1117: If I was in your place
"Greetings, Young Lord Chronos. Welcome to the Empire!" The minister stepped out and reached out his hand to welcome the special guest.
Chronos glanced at the Minister’s outstretched hand, but didn’t reach out. After a few seconds, the Minister awkwardly retracted his hand.
"Shall we get going?" he asked Chronos, not getting offended by the young man’s show of utter disrespect. And even if he was offended, he couldn’t show it outright.
Karyk’s gaze swept over the assembled guards and the two Ministers, lingering for a fraction of a second on the Angelic Prince before returning to the Minister.
"I trust my arrival hasn’t caused too much of a disruption?" he asked, noticing quite a few familiar faces, especially in the distance.
He was well aware of the stir his presence was creating. The elaborate welcome and the sheer number of guards, made it clear that the Empire was cautious.
The Minister, slightly flustered by the directness of the question, chuckled nervously. "Not at all. The Emperor himself has expressed a keen interest in meeting you."
Chronos nodded. "I look forward to the opportunity."
He gestured subtly towards the Angelic Prince, who was still standing nearby with a curious expression on his face. "I believe introductions are in order. I don’t believe we’ve met before."
The Prince stepped forward with a graceful smile gracing his lips. "I am Alatar, Prince of the Angelic Realm. I believe you’ve already heard about us, since our fathers can be called friends."
Chronos returned the smile. Unlike his behaviour with the Empire’s forces, his reaction towards the Prince was more welcoming, even though he hated the Angels to the depths of his heart.
The only problem was that if he was to light a fire between the Empire and the Ancient Lords, then he had to keep the Lords on his side. And the appearance of the Prince made him feel that things might be easier than he thought.
Not only could light the much needed fire, but he might even be able to get a similarly pure bloodline of the Angels in this trip, making him possess two bloodlines of ancient lords.
"How could I not know you? You’ve made quite a name for yourself." Karyk answered as he stepped forward, placing his arm on the angel’s shoulder in a friendly manner.
The moment he touched the Prince, he could see that the angelic guards that were accompanying him grew alert, almost as if they were on the verge of attacking him if he did something wrong.
It was only when the Prince raised his hand, the Guards held back.
"Well, I’ve had years to make a name for myself. But surprisingly, within a few weeks, your name might have become more influential than mine. I was looking forward to going to your realm to meet you, but I didn’t expect the opportunity to arrive so soon."
Back home, no one could touch the Prince without his permission unless they had a death wish. Even if someone did so accidentally, they were put to death. It was a well known fact in the Angelic Realm, which was why the guards had grown so restless.
They were left quite surprised to see the Prince respond so calmly before Chronos.
"It is good to meet like-minded people." Karyk didn’t leave the man’s shoulders and instead placed his arm around Alatar’s neck, as if they had been friends for a long time.
Alatar’s lips twitched but he quickly recovered, not letting others see the frustration on his face.
"Let’s enter the city." With his hands around Alatar’s neck, Karyk walked past the guards and approached the city.
The Ministers looked at each other before following the two youngsters along with their army of guards.
Alatar tried to free himself without making it too obvious that he was offended, but to his surprise, he couldn’t even move Chronos’s arms. The strength behind that arm left him surprised.
Even if it was only his human form and didn’t possess his complete strength, but still, to not even be able to move that arm an inch, was surprising to him.
"That’s the Drike Family bastards. Since you’ve been back only for a short time, I’m not sure if you have heard about them." Alatar told Karyk as they reached closer to the Drike Family’s group that was still standing in the same place, observing them. freewёbnoνel.com
"The family that is in a fight with the Angels? I have heard a little about it," Karyk answered, nodding. "I must say, I am quite impressed by the self control of the angels."
"Self control? What do you mean?"
"I mean, if I was in your place, and I had my enemy before my eyes..." Karyk glanced at Alatar before continuing, "I would have crushed their necks, and sent them to the afterlife. But you’re still able to hold yourself back. That self control is impressive."
"If I didn’t know any better, I would have even thought that it was because the Angels were cowards and that’s why they didn’t do anything, despite having their enemies before their eyes. But that definitely can’t be it, right?"
Karyk’s words were filled with innocence and even came with some compliments of self control, but there was something in his words that made Alatar feel quite angry. He couldn’t put a finger on what it was, but even within that praise, he felt insulted.
Karyk was telling him that he wouldn’t have cared about the Empire or anything. But the Angels had to restrain themselves in the name of self control. If that wasn’t cowardice, then what was it?
"Heh, that’s right. We don’t want to finish them too fast. A true hunter doesn’t give their prey an easy death. They make them feel the pain first, of not knowing when their deaths will come. Killing them here might be easy, but it’s no fun."
Alatar justified his actions, even if he didn’t need to. Hearing his reaction, Karyk only smiled. Alatar didn’t know the meaning hidden behind that smile, but if he did, he would have been quite upset.
