" Is that what you guys are doing during your vacation? I can’t believe it! You know Lady Laura would be furious when she hears about it not to mention master..." Amanda sighed clutching her forehead while talking with Nicole over the phone. Apparently, she had something important to say to her even though it was half past midnight!
She was still in her forties but she couldn’t keep up with her young master’s shenanigans.
As the former head maid who semi retired to take care of Samuel’s home, she had seen him grow up from a timid little boy to a handsome young man still she could never guess what the next outrageous thing he would do whenever he was away from home.
" That’s the issue right now. I called because I need your help." Nicole said with a hint of concern in her voice. When she went to help those people, she was among the few who truly saw the state they were in.
She had never seen such gloomy eyes, even when she visited the rundown places around the city with her young master. They seem to have some hope in their eyes but few of the girls that she came in contact with seemed to have all lost. It’s like the shine in their eyes were gone and they were just going with the motion.
She didn’t know all the details of what they experienced but she wanted to help them, no she needed to do it. She never felt such strongly about anything other than winning Samuel’s affection. This was the reason why she called the one person who took care of her since she was a child.

Nicole sighed and told her the rest of the story. Samuel did went on a dangerous mission but it was what came after it. She told him about the people he brought with him and also told him what Steve and Jane told her over the phone. They never shared explicit details with her but she had seen enough to guess what truly happened.
" This...this is a serious matter. Are you sure no one else is aware of it?"
" I am sure. Young master told everyone to keep quiet about the matter for few days. There could be hidden dangers involved with it. I trust him but I don’t know how can I assist him. I don’t want him to take this burden alone, unlike me Miss Anastasiya-"
" Huh? Anastasiya? Who is she?"
At this point, Nicole knew she wouldn’t be able to hide her and Samuel’s relationship for long. They were almost caught red handed by Amanda before they left the Estate and she also knew Amanda must be suspecting few things seeing them exceptionally close after returning from the retreat to the countryside.
So, she told her everything nothing explicit but she hinted enough for Amanda to understand. It was awkward because she considered Amanda as her mother that she never had. It was awful telling things over the phone but she needed to do this.
" It seems like you guys had a lot of fun. It’s only been more than a week since you left and so much has happened since then?" Amanda knew Samuel told her he was going away for a business meeting but it seemed like she still underestimated him. He was no longer a child and was making big waves in the industry.
As someone who had been with the Rothschild for decades, business talks and interpersonal relationships were common norm for her.
" Alright, you don’t have to say anything. I think I know what you want to do but are you sure about this? If young master said he would take care of it-"
" I am sure."
" Then, you don’t have to hold back. Do as you please, I know he cares about you. I only warned you because I thought you will get hurt but I guess I was wrong. To the topic of helping those people, I think it’s best if you follow your heart. You may not realize it but you have always been a observant child.
You would always shower me with questions whenever you became curious but in the past few years, you stopped relying on me." Amanda paused reminiscing about old memories.
To ensure that no harm came to the Rothschild family, personal maids were often kids the family would chose to nurture from young age. In such a way they would have completely loyalty to those they were set to serve in the future. Amanda was the same, she never knew her family but over the years, she came to love every maid and employee under her as her own.
She created a family not bound by blood but by love.

Some might find it cruel to determine the fate of a child but Amanda knew better. She could have resented her life but every family member showed nothing but love to her, when she was finally allowed to tour the world she began to understand more about the fate of most of kids in her situation.
She was allowed to study and learn discipline from her predecessor and was also given ample salary that most people could only dream off. When it came to decide if she wanted to keep working or resign from her job to seek a family, she chose the former option.
She wanted to pass down the things she had learned to another deserving child who was in similar situation as her and that child was Nicole. Even now hearing her resolute determination, she knew she must have done a okay job because Nicole grew up to become a strong and capable maid!
" Do what you do best. Show them some hope and try to understand their pain. You already know enough about it so I think it’s best for me not interfere with it but if you need more help I can ask Lady Laura to send some people from the Estate." Amanda didn’t gave any concrete answers but she had trust in her ’child’.
