Hollywood: Lights, Ink, Entertainment!-Chapter 351: Proposal (2)
....
From the projection booth, a small group watched through the narrow glass window.
"Well." Darren said quietly. "He didn’t faint. I consider that a win."
Samantha let out a soft, shaky laugh as she brushed at the corner of her eye. "You say that like you had a bet running."
"I did." Darren replied dryly. "Five dollars he’d forget his own name halfway through."
Maggi didn’t laugh.
She was openly crying, one hand pressed over her mouth as she watched. She had been with Gwendolyn since the earliest, uncertain days. "She waited so long for this." she whispered. "He has no idea."
"He does." Samantha said gently. "That’s why he looks like that."
Behind them, Simon stood unusually quiet, hands in his pockets.
Rock made no effort to hide his tears, wiping them away only for more to follow. "Idiot... How can he make her cry." He muttered thickly, though the word carried nothing but affection.
Seren leaned lightly against the back wall, smiling to herself.
Keanu stood beside her, arms crossed, watching with an unreadable but softened expression.
"He rehearsed that speech." Keanu murmured. "At least twenty times."
Seren raised a brow. "And still looked terrified."
"Well I would be too if that was me..."
Even Darren, who prided himself on composure, blinked more than usual.
Behind them, the three leads of Harry Potter stood together, absorbing the scene in their own ways.
Daniel Radcliffe let out a slow breath he hadn’t realized he was holding.
Rupert Grint rubbed the back of his neck, blinking rapidly.
He sniffed once and shook his head. "Bloody hell. I am not crying. It’s just... yeah."
Lily didn’t even pretend to stay composed. Her hands were clasped under her chin, eyes glassy, smiling so wide it almost hurt. "It’s perfect." she breathed. "It had to be here. Of all places, it had to be here."
Daniel glanced at her. "Yeah... They both look perfect together."
Rupert nodded toward the aisle.
Seren, standing nearby, smiled at their reactions. "You three look like proud siblings."
"We are." Rupert said immediately. "He practically raised us on that set."
Daniel gave a small nod. "He did more than direct a film. He held the whole thing together. Same with her."
Below, Regal said something that made Gwendolyn laugh softly, her forehead resting against his. The quiet intimacy of it struck them all at once.
Lily wiped her eyes again. "Okay. If anyone tells them we were up here watching, I will deny everything."
Rupert let out a short laugh. "Too late. Your face is red."
After a while, Samantha reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. "Do we tell them?" she asked. "Or let them keep thinking they are alone?"
Darren glanced at the couple, still wrapped in each other’s arms in the aisle.
"Let’s give them five more minutes." he said. "They’ve earned it."
Samantha nodded, and they turned away from the window, giving their friends their privacy.
Some moments were meant to be witnessed only by the people living them.
And this was one of those moments.
....
The newly engaged couple... made their way to Theatre Seven, Gwendolyn still occasionally glancing at her ring in wonder.
When Regal opened the door, she gasped.
The theatre wasn’t completely empty.
Sitting in the back rows were their closest friends and family - people who had been hiding there for the past twenty minutes.
Seren and Keanu occupied the back corner, leaning toward each other with identical conspiratorial grins, as if they had personally orchestrated the surprise.
Samantha and Darren sat midway down the center row. Samantha was already on her feet, hands clasped tightly in front of her chest. Darren remained seated for a second longer, shaking his head with a small, satisfied smile before standing.
Maggie made no attempt to compose herself; she was openly wiping tears, laughing through them at the same time.
Rock and Simon stood off to one side, the kids gathered around them, buzzing with poorly contained excitement - half whispering and bouncing in place. They were in their own little storm of celebration.
And near the aisle stood Chris, camera raised, documenting everything - the shock on Gwendolyn’s face, Regal’s stunned blink, the exact second realization settled in.
For a brief moment, neither Regal nor Gwendolyn moved.
Then the room erupted.
Applause bounced off the theatre walls. Whistles, cheers, laughter - twenty minutes of restrained excitement finally released at once.
"You didn’t." Gwendolyn whispered.
"I did." Regal said quietly. "I wanted everyone who has been part of this story to see how it continues."
"But you said private screening–"
"For the proposal, yes. Just us. But for the celebration?" He gestured to their friends. "That should be shared."
Gwendolyn turned to him, fresh tears streaming down her face. "You really thought of everything."
"I tried."
Maggie was the first to break formation, hurrying down the aisle and wrapping Gwendolyn in a tight embrace.
"Finally." Maggie breathed. "I have been living in fear of accidentally slipping up for months."
"You knew?"
Maggie followed, half laughing, half crying. "Three months, Gwen. Three. Months. Do you know how hard it is not to react every time you casually say, ’I wonder when he will propose?’"
Seren reached them next, pulling both Regal and Gwendolyn into a brief, firm hug. "Congratulations." she said warmly. "You two were inevitable."
"Inevitable?" Gwendolyn laughed through her tears.
Keanu stepped forward, calm but visibly pleased. "We were simply waiting for him to stop overcomplicating the obvious."
"Hey." Regal protested lightly.
Darren joined them, shaking his head. "There was a betting pool."
"You’re kidding."
"Nope." Keanu replied. "Two years running."
"Who won?" Regal asked.
"Samantha." Darren admitted.
"That’s because I knew the schedule." Samantha said unapologetically. "And I know you."
Behind them, the kids could no longer stay contained. They rushed forward in a cluster of awkward hugs and overlapping voices.
"Can I see the ring?" Lily asked immediately.
Gwendolyn laughed and held out her hand. The diamond caught the theatre light again, drawing a collective "whoa."
"That’s huge." Daniel whispered.
"Be respectful." Simon muttered, though he was smiling.
Rupert grinned at Regal. "So... does this mean we get extra cake at the wedding?"
"Focus on the milestone, Rupert." Daniel added, though he was laughing too.
Lily hugged Gwendolyn tightly. "I am so happy for you." she said earnestly. "You deserve this."
Chris approached last, lowering his camera just long enough to clasp Regal’s shoulder.
"Congratulations." he said, genuine and steady. "That was beautifully done." Then he lifted the lens again. "Now hold that position. The lighting’s perfect."
At some point, champagne appeared - apparently hidden in the projection booth for this exact moment. Glasses were distributed, toasts were made.
Keanu raised his glass first. "To Regal and Gwendolyn." he said, voice steady but warm. "May your marriage be as resilient as the world you built together."
"To our first baby." Gwendolyn added, making everyone laugh. "And to whatever comes next."
They drank, they talked, and gradually, people began settling into their seats.
"Wait." Gwendolyn said. "Are we actually watching the movie now?"
"Of course." Regal said. "Did you think I would break tradition?"
They took their seats - row G, seats 13 and 14. Their seats. The same ones they had claimed for every private screening since the very beginning.
But this time, they weren’t alone. Their friends and family surrounded them, filling the theatre with warmth and love.
The lights dimmed.
The Red Studios and LIE Studios logos appeared, followed by the familiar Warner Bros shield.
Then the Harry Potter theme began - that soaring, magical score that never failed to give them both goosebumps.
Gwendolyn reached over and took Regal’s hand, just like she always did.
But this time, there was a ring on her finger.
This time, they weren’t just partners in a creative venture.
They were engaged, building toward something permanent.
As the film progressed, Regal found himself splitting his attention between the screen and the woman beside him. The way she leaned forward during intense moments. The soft laugh when Dumbledore delivered a particularly dry line. The slight tremor in her hand during the graveyard scene.
This was what mattered.
Not the box office projections or the critical reception or even the technical achievements he had worked so hard to perfect.
Just this: sharing something they had built together with the people they loved, being present in the moment, choosing connection over perfection.
During the Patronus scene - when Harry summoned his stag to drive away the Dementors - Gwendolyn leaned over and whispered. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For everything...."
"You’re my person." Regal said simply. "Where else would I be?"
She rested her head on his shoulder, and they watched the rest of the film like that - connected, content, completely at peace.
When the credits rolled, no one moved for a moment.
Then Maggie started clapping, and soon the entire theatre erupted in applause - not for the film, though it was spectacular, but for the couple in row G.
Regal and Gwendolyn stood, accepting hugs and congratulations from everyone.
As the celebration continued, someone produced more champagne. Music started playing - Samantha’s doing, no doubt. The empty theatre transformed into an impromptu party.
At one point, Regal drifted toward the back of the theatre and found himself standing beside Darren.
From there, they could see everyone - Gwendolyn laughing with Samantha, the kids still arguing over who spotted the ring first, Chris adjusting his camera settings, Maggie mid-story with exaggerated hand gestures.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
They had started this together.
Darren had been the first to step in, the first to believe when there was nothing yet to show for it. Just an idea and an unreasonable amount of ambition.
"You did well." Darren said quietly. "Not just with the proposal. With all of it."
Regal glanced at him but didn’t interrupt.
"You built something that matters - not just the films, but the relationships, the trust, the family you’ve created around this work." Darren continued. "That doesn’t happen by accident."
"We built it together." Regal corrected.
"Maybe. But you held it together. That takes skill."
"Or stubbornness."
"Often the same thing."
They watched Gwendolyn laughing with Seren and Samantha, the three women already deep in what was undoubtedly wedding planning.
"Thank you." Regal said. "For everything. For being there tonight, for helping coordinate all of this, for–"
"That’s what friends do." Darren interrupted. "We show up for the moments that matter."
There was something weighted in that statement, something that felt like it was about more than just tonight. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
But before Regal could ask, Samantha called them over, and the moment passed.
The celebration continued well past midnight.
Stories were shared, future plans were discussed, and gradually, people began to leave - offering final congratulations and promises to see them soon.
Finally, only Regal and Gwendolyn remained in Theatre Seven, with Darren and Samantha discretely cleaning up in the background.
"Today was amazing..." Gwendolyn said, holding up her hand to admire the ring again. "All of it. The photos, the video, the surprise guests, this theatre, these seats..." She looked at him. "You."
"Thank you... Thank you."
They stayed in the theatre until almost one AM, talking about everything and nothing, occasionally interrupted by Samantha confirming details or Darren checking if they needed anything.
Finally, as they prepared to leave, Gwendolyn stopped at their seats - G13 and G14.
"We should get a plaque." she said.
"What?"
"A plaque. ’Here is where Regal Seraphsail proposed to Gwendolyn Clarke. Where our story continued.’"
"That’s excessive."
"Says the man who rented an entire theatre, created a photo gallery, produced a custom video, and coordinated a surprise gathering of all our friends for his proposal."
Regal laughed. "Point taken."
She kissed him softly. "I love that you’re excessive about the things that matter."
"I love you too."
They walked out into the Los Angeles night, engaged and happy, Gwendolyn’s ring catching the streetlights, both of them completely unprepared for how much their lives were about to change.
But that was fine.
They would figure it out together.
Just like they had figured out everything else.
Their story had started with a book about a boy wizard.
It had grown through four films and countless shared moments.
And now it was continuing 0 not as a fairy tale with a neat ending, but as a real, messy, beautiful partnership.
The kind that lasted, mattered, built on seven years of trust, collaboration, and choosing each other every single day.
As they drove away from the Chinese Theatre, Gwendolyn’s hand in his, Regal thought about all the careful planning that had gone into tonight.
But the best part he couldn’t have planned?
The way she fit against him, like she always had.
The way she laughed even while crying.
The way she said yes without hesitation.
That was all her.
And it was more perfect than any script he could have written.
