Chapter 629: The affection between men and women

The man in his thirties was no longer as reckless as in his youth. Even the lip piercing at the corner of his lips now carried a restrained and composed aura. As Daisy Ginger looked at his tall and broad shoulders, she recalled the time she found him by the trash heap. Who would have thought that the little boy, who was once so malnourished that he couldn’t even reach her shoulder, would grow to be over six-foot-two.

She smiled at him, took a sip of the warm milk in her hand, and asked, "I heard from Zoe recently that you got a new girlfriend. When will you bring her over for me to meet?"

Ethan Pond stepped out of the shadows. His arms were strong, and in a swift motion, he lifted the delicate-framed Zoe Hilker from Daisy’s side and plopped her onto the sofa.

"It’s over." Ethan’s tone was indifferent, giving no hint of emotion.

Daisy was taken aback. It was rare to hear that Ethan was in a relationship, and yet, after just a few months, they’d already split up.

"Why did you break up?"

"We’re not suitable."

He walked over, holding a bottle of beer, sat down next to Daisy, took a swig from the bottle, and then explained to Daisy, "After being single for so long, you realize it’s a hassle to have someone else around. I don’t like it."

Daisy couldn’t help but laugh, "Who would dare to manage you?"

Ethan turned his head to look at her. His brow bones were deep and prominent, emotions hidden deep within, and he gave a faint smile before saying, "That’s not for sure. There are still people who can manage you."

Daisy: "Zoe?"

"It’d be nice if she didn’t get into trouble to annoy me," Ethan rolled his eyes and took another sip of beer. "I’ve never seen anyone who can cause more trouble than her."

Daisy had heard about Zoe provoking two gangsters, almost inciting them to fight each other because of her. In the end, Ethan had to pretend to be Zoe’s boyfriend and beat those two men into submission, freeing Zoe from her predicament.

Because of that incident, they even had to pretend to be a couple for a while.

Daisy laughed, "Zoe is quite good too. She’s been single for so many years, and you don’t have a girlfriend either. You’ve been living together for so long, why not just make do with each other?"

Daisy always felt a bit regretful. The two beside her were, in her view, a perfect match, both with net worths of over a million, yet they preferred to look elsewhere, just not seeing eye-to-eye with each other.

Her words made both Ethan and the drunken Zoe on the sofa cringe a bit.

Ethan’s poker face showed a rare expression that words couldn’t describe. He drank half a bottle of beer before explaining to Daisy, "I’m too familiar with her, it’s impossible."

They grew up wearing the same pair of pants. On the first day Zoe got her period, Ethan was the one who ran to the kiosk to buy her sanitary pads, and she didn’t know how to use them, so he helped her put them on.

He even washed her sheets stained with menstrual blood.

And while he struggled to make his way in society, Zoe had washed his underwear and even knew about his first wet dream. They are like two family members who rely on each other, forever unable to develop inappropriate thoughts about each other.

When they became aware of romantic feelings between men and women, they had already transcended gender differences and stepped into a familial bond.

"Oh... that’s true." Daisy regretfully withdrew her gaze, "Just like how I see you two."

When it comes to feelings, it’s all just about the feeling.

She thought about how she grew up with little Edward Stephens, passionately in love, and yet, it never turned into a familial bond.
