Chapter 521: Chapter 519: The Changes of Sirius

Before today, Kael had never imagined that Sirius would come to Hogwarts as a professor... and a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, no less.

No wonder he was the first in the Black family to be a Gryffindor, he truly was brave.

Just hope that by the end of the term, he doesn’t end up back in Azkaban for some inexplicable reason. Of course, if that does happen, Kael wouldn’t be surprised.

The Defense Against the Dark Arts professor... it’s a notorious one-year position in the Magic Realm, nothing would be surprising.

Professor Dumbledore faces rejection for this role every year, and his worsening reputation in recent years is definitely linked to this issue.

But Kael quickly thought that Sirius was probably already on Dumbledore’s list. Even if he didn’t come this year, he would likely be asked in the future... After all, this position is really hard to fill.

And with Sirius’s personality, it’s more than likely he wouldn’t refuse.

After Sirius was introduced, the banquet ended.

Snape was the first to stand up, storming out of the auditorium with a scowl on his face.

As he passed Sirius, he heard an unmistakable snort of laughter.

"Ha..."

Snape halted, turning to glare coldly at him.

"Oh, isn’t that our hero..." Snape said with an expressionless face, "I thought you’d be hiding at home weeping for those who died because of you... but it seems I was wrong, your feelings for Potter don’t seem that deep."

"Shut up, you sniveling wretch." Sirius’s expression quickly cooled, "You know full well who really got James and Lily killed... if you hadn’t gone and informed your master..."

"Professors."

Professor Dumbledore appeared just in time, interrupting the two’s confrontation.

He said with some headache, "I don’t think the auditorium is a great place to chat, how about a cup of tea? I happened to find a good black tea recently."

"No thanks," Snape sneered, "I wouldn’t want to have tea with a Dementor’s lunch; that rotten stench would make me unwell."

"Nor would I..." Sirius said without hesitation, "I’d rather have tea with a Dementor than sit across from the likes of you."

Dumbledore was more troubled, although he had anticipated such a situation, he didn’t expect their encounter to immediately become so tense.

Fortunately, their voices weren’t loud, and with the hustle and bustle of the auditorium, the students didn’t hear what they were saying...

Organizing the lower grade students in line, Cedric glanced at the teacher’s table and quietly said, "Kael, it seems like Snape and Blake don’t get along very well."

"That’s normal." Kael casually said, "He doesn’t get along with any of the Defense Against the Dark Arts professors... Don’t glare at me, Conna, it’s a fact.

"Think about it, from Oren in year one to Quirrell, Lockhart, Lupin... it’s always been that way."

Conna mumbled for a while, finally sighing helplessly.

Snape’s relationship with other professors wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either, except for the Defense Against the Dark Arts professors... Even just mentioning them, Snape would sarcastically remark, a fact she could not refute. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

Luckily, they didn’t continue with the topic, and once the way cleared up, the three left with the lower grade students back to the common room.

The next day.

"I watched your match the other day."

In the foyer, Sirius stopped Kael, who was heading for breakfast, "It was wonderful. Karkaroff, that old turtle, actually docked you a point, I really want to give him a good talking to."

"You’re a professor now, remember the impression." Kael reminded him.

"Yes, I’m a professor now..." Sirius said, "I never thought I could be back here, especially as a professor... When Professor Dumbledore agreed, I almost thought I was dreaming."

Dreaming? If it were any other subject, maybe, but Defense Against the Dark Arts... honestly, Dumbledore would be eager if someone volunteered.

An extra candidate could be a spare, in case someone lasts until the next school year, he wouldn’t have to face rejection again.

Kael looked at Sirius.

He was wearing a brand new robe, and the usually messy hair was neatly done up at the back.

After some time of recovery, his complexion was much better, turning ruddy from a waxy yellow, showing hints of his youthful handsomeness...

"Aren’t you worried?" Kael asked, "This position has always had annual turnover, no exceptions."

"I’ve thought about it." Sirius said confidently, "I joined midway, Alastor Moody’s before me, even if there’s a curse it won’t fall on me...

Most importantly, those previous professors had their own issues forcing them to leave Hogwarts, but I don’t, and the same goes for Professor Moody...

Besides, both of us are quite capable, we can handle things even if we run into Death Eaters."

Seeing his confident face, Kael didn’t pursue further.

After all, even if told, he might not listen... Just let it be.

"Have you seen Harry?" Kael said.

"Ah, I have." Sirius couldn’t hold back a chuckle, "We talked for a long time last night, he even wanted to stay in my office... Of course, I’d be glad, but I just arrived today, there’s nothing in my office, can’t have him sleeping on a bench, can I?

"Speaking of which, I don’t know how I never noticed how old Hogwarts furniture looks, those chairs seem older than I am."

"It’s always been that way." Kael spread his hands.

That’s the downside of Hogwarts, things can be repaired with magic, no need to buy new... The board of governors won’t pay extra for new desks and chairs.

Then they walked toward the auditorium, chatting about the Triwizard Tournament on the way.

"How’s the second clue going," Sirius asked, "If you need anything, feel free to let me know... but do it secretly, professors aren’t allowed to help with the Triwizard Tournament."

"There’s still three months, no rush... Oh, and I haven’t thanked you yet."

Kael said, "The Firebolt was a huge help, if it were still my Nimbus 2000, I wouldn’t dodge twenty-nine Bludger, let alone escape the Fire Dragon."

"It was quite a coincidence." Sirius laughed, "I originally wanted to give you a set of Pure Gold Astrological Ornament as a champion gift, but Professor Dumbledore told me you might prefer a broom... and the folks at the Quidditch shop said the Nimbus 2000 was really long outdated."

"Professor Dumbledore?" Kael said in surprise, "He suggested you give me a broom?"

"Ah... yes." Sirius shrugged, "We met at the Ministry of Magic, I was there helping with the Crouch investigation that day.

"Thank goodness he did, see, it came in handy, didn’t it?"
