Hogwarts: Bloodline Legend-Chapter 628 - 176: Ian’s Debt, Morgan’s Secret
The sky was tightly wrapped in heavy lead clouds, the air filled with a cold dampness, as if even breathing carried the chill seeping from one’s bones. Occasionally, a gust of wind would blow through, not bringing a trace of freshness, but instead intensifying the gloomy atmosphere.
The wind stirred the fallen leaves and dust on the ground, causing them to whirl helplessly in the air before ultimately falling heavily back down—this was Witch Morgan’s ancient castle. In the distance, thunder rumbled faintly, like a beast deep within the sky roaring softly, seemingly a prisoner of time, trapped in oppressive, deep darkness.
The ancient giant dragon lay sprawled across the ground, as magnificent and grand as a mountain range. It was originally dozing off, but sensing the return of the castle’s owner, it instantly woke with a start.
"Oh! Morgan, Madam, you’ve finally returned! I’ve missed you for exactly thirty-four minutes and forty-two seconds!" It spoke human words, its tone and expression full of flattery.
Ian found it hard to imagine a giant dragon showing such submissive demeanor on its face; he realized that this ancient giant dragon might have been fiercely ’trained’ by Teacher Morgan more than once.
Hmm.
Perhaps the word ’trained’ is more appropriate.
Even its tongue stuck out.
"Good evening, Death Wing," Ian took the initiative to greet the ancient giant dragon, as he shared a relatively friendly pact with its spirit.
Of course.
This is not enough for the ancient giant dragon to treat Ian the same way it treats Morgan.
"I’m not called Death Wing, I have my own name," the ancient giant dragon replied with dissatisfaction, retracting the tongue it had just stuck out toward Morgan.
The atmosphere of differential treatment was palpable.
"Oh? Then what’s your name?"
Ian didn’t mind, still smiling as he spoke. He didn’t have Morgan’s knack for handling others; the fact that this ancient giant dragon didn’t breathe fire towards him was considered a good ’dragon affinity’.
"Forgot."
The ancient giant dragon’s response was quite straightforward.
It also conveyed a sense of nonchalance. Its head drooped, eyes half-closed, breathing out wisps of smoke that mingled with the surrounding mist, making it appear both majestic and lazy.
"Then I’ll keep calling you Death Wing, it’s such a cool name." Ian patted the dragon’s toe, needing to stand on tiptoe to complete such a move.
The ancient giant dragon wanted to resist further.
But Morgan was not at all indulgent.
"Take the name given to you and make the best of it, you don’t know how lucky you are." Morgan glanced lightly at the ancient giant dragon, and this colossal creature trembled immediately.
"Fine, from today onwards, I’ll be called Death Wing." It displayed its easily intimidated nature; it’s really hard to imagine an ancient giant dragon having such timid moments.
"Here’s a gift for you."
Ian took out a heap of statues the size of Hagrid, along with a huge chessboard made from the broken pieces Ian collected from the room before his battle against Tom.
It could be considered a kind of waste recycling and reuse. Ian had been intent on increasing the ancient giant dragon’s goodwill and had completed the preparation of this gift since last semester.
"What are these things?" The ancient giant dragon reached out its claw, and the dice-sized statues appeared tiny amidst its claws larger than a wooden house.
"It’s a stone version of Wizard Chess, with an automatic repair function, plus I’ve infused it with my era-crossing invention that allows you to play chess independently."
"Without needing an opponent, you can complete a game of Wizard Chess. Now it contains only the Spirit Engine 1.0 version, but I think it’s sufficient for you to have an evenly matched opponent."
Ian didn’t know if the dragon would fall in love with this wizard’s pastime; he just wanted to use the bored ancient giant dragon to enable his Spirit Engine 1.0 to complete iterations and upgrades.
The little wizard also wanted to apply this invention to other places.
"Interesting toy." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
The ancient giant dragon likely had been idle for too long, instantly showing interest in Ian’s gift, without even asking for the rules before giving the pieces a swipe with its claw.
"Crunch~"
The pieces shattered across the floor.
But they quickly began to automatically repair themselves.
"Wizard Chess doesn’t work like that..." Ian wanted to elaborate the rules for the ancient giant dragon, but unexpectedly, the dragon shook its head and gave him a surprising response.
"I know what Wizard Chess is, Slytherin loved playing Wizard Chess; I’m just reminiscing about my past!" The ancient giant dragon blinked its eyes, somewhat melancholic.
"Just now, however, doing the same thing feels somewhat different." Its voice was filled with melancholy, carrying a sense of sighing over the relentless passage of time.
"Memories are irreplaceable."
The little wizard concluded, and the ancient giant dragon nodded seriously.
"Yes, exactly."
It wished to express more reflections.
Yet Morgan raised an eyebrow.
"You need a good scolding."
She lifted a finger.
No light emanated, yet the next moment the ancient giant dragon felt as though it had been slapped, tossed over on the ground, its half dragon head quickly swelling up.
"Oh... now it feels right."
Amid earth-shaking tremors.
The ancient giant dragon lay overturned, its four feet twitching in the air.
