His soul-Chapter 72: Old friend
As long as Brandon spoke, Gina didn’t comment at all, she just kept quiet being a good listener.
Brandon, the car driver who yesterday helped Francia when they were chased by the police turned out to be a widower with one child whose wife just died six months ago due to illness. He has a one year old daughter who is adorable, even now the child is also sitting among them in the tavern.
"For God’s sake, I don’t know anything. At first I was just enjoying the evening view with my daughter and suddenly a man came to my car. He said there are two girls who need my help that’s why I immediately rushed to your place,"said Brandon slowly ending his story.
Gina raised an eyebrow. "A man? What kind of man?"
"I don’t know, I can’t remember that guy’s face."
"Why?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Because the man was wearing a mask and sunglasses, I couldn’t recognize him. But looking at his posture and way of speaking, he seemed to be quite old," Brandon replied.
Gina was silent, she was trying to digest the words of Brandon’s new friend, Francia’s boss. From the way Brandon spoke, who looked earnest and dared to look into his eyes when he spoke, Gina was sure Brandon wasn’t lying.
"Never mind, Gina. Don’t worry about it, maybe that guy feels sorry for us because he sees us being chased by the police like that. Even though what we did was not a crime, feeding stray puppies It’s not a crime. Pickpocketing, robbing that’s a crime," said Francia loudly, interrupting Gina’s thoughts.
"Feeding wild animals that are already in the local regulations is also a crime, Francia," said Gina lazily.
"Tsk, you are not an animal lover."
Gina ignores Francia’s words, she chooses to go back to work because there are customers who come. Gina didn’t want to disturb the togetherness of Francia and her guests, especially when there was Brandon’s child who was in Francia’s lap. Others who don’t know will think they are a happy family.
Until closing time Francia and Brandon were still talking, and didn’t know what they had been talking about for hours.
"I’ve washed and tidied everything, I’ve also mopped the kitchen floor, so I finished my work today and because I don’t want to disturb you guys, I’m going home right now," Gina said quietly, reporting all of today’s work to Francia, who turned out to be busy. holding Brandon’s sleeping child.
"W-we’re planning to have dinner together would you like to join, Gina?" Brandon asked with a smile.
Gina shook her head quickly. "No thanks, I don’t want to interrupt your date."
"This isn’t a date, we haven’t gotten that far, Gina." Francia nervously replied to Gina’s words.
Gina smiled. "It’s ok, after all if you are with me I agree. You are like a happy husband and wife with a daughter."
Francia’s face turned red when she heard Gina’s words, as did Brandon who looked very uncomfortable. The two of them were exactly the cheating couple that got caught. Because she didn’t want to be a mosquito for long, Gina said goodbye to Francia to go home, she brought a spare key that had been inserted inside. Meanwhile, Francia holds the key, knowing Francia’s previous love story, Gina is happy to see her boss meet Brandon and his daughter. Gina felt that Francia suited the man very well, especially since Bela was already very close to Francia even though they had just met. It seems like a child does know who is sincere and who is not.
Because the sun was still high Gina decided to take a short walk around the city of Barcelona, since living in Barcelona Gina did not really enjoy this beautiful city. Using a double-decker bus provided by the Barcelona city tourism party, Gina enjoyed the view of Barcelona in the afternoon. It was the right decision because Gina’s mood immediately went up when she saw the beauty of the city of Barcelona directly from the other side as it is today.
Being the only person who doesn’t have a partner on the double-decker bus doesn’t make Gina lonely, because she is busy herself recording the sights of Barcelona using her smartphone. Every now and then Gina waves her hand at the locals while recording them, what Gina does is really like a tourist. Since Gina has always spoken in English with a very British accent, no one would have thought that she could speak Spanish.
"If you were still around, I would be very happy to see this scene," Gina muttered quietly.
"Where is your mother?"
Gina immediately lifted her face, turned towards the source of the voice that came from a young man sitting across from her.
"Jesus....
"Hi Gina."
"Alexandre!!" Gina screamed loudly with her eyes wide open.
The man called Alexandre smiled. "Yes, it’s me Alexandre."
Gina immediately approached the man and hugged him tightly, Alexandre hugged Gina and smiled. Being a childhood friend of Gina in housing them in London makes them not awkwardly embraced like that in front of many people.
After nearly five minutes Gina let go of his arms from the body Alexandre, playmate since childhood.
"How long?"
Alexandre smiled. "Almost five years."
Gina’s lips pouted. "Yes, you are bad, sis, how can you leave and never come back. We all miss you."
Alexandre smiled. "Really? Is the basketball court still there?"
"Maybe."
"What do you mean by maybe?" asked Alexandre, confused.
"I’ve been living in Spain for almost two months since my mother died."
Alexandre gasped. "Wait, aunty Sandra died? Why? When?"
"Two months ago, my mother died of lung disease. Doctor Ali said my mother had lung cancer," Gina answered hoarsely, her eyes welling with tears as she discussed her mother again.
"Tell me in detail, Gina."
Gina was silent for a while before finally starting to tell Alexandre what had happened to her mother. Alexandre is the only child of the richest person in Gina’s residence in London. They grew up together, not too much age difference with Alexandre made Gina familiar with the bespectacled man.
Alexandre and his family moved from London about five years ago when Alexandre entered college, at that time no one knew where Alexandre and his family had moved. Including Gina who ended up losing one of his very good playmates.
"Oh my God, sorry Gina, I don’t know," said Alexandre regretfully.
"It’s ok, after all now my mother is happy up there. So I don’t have to cry over her anymore, I don’t want to make my mother sad," Gina replied softly with a smile.
"You’ve always been like this, Gina. Still a strong girl like before." Alexandre tried to strengthen Gina in the same way as before when he was Gina’s playmate.
Gina pursed her lips at Alexandre’s praise, in the next second there was no conversation whatsoever between Gina and Alexandre. Both were lost in thought. each, until finally Gina reached for her cell phone which was ringing because she received a message from Francia who sent her a photo with Brandon and Bela enjoying ice cream. Seeing Francia’s happy photo made Gina smile too.
"Looks like you have a new friend, Gina," said Alexandre slowly.
Gina lifted her face and smiled at Alexandre who was already sitting across from her. "A message from my boss."
"Boss?"
"Yes, the boss I work for."
Alexandre laughed. "Wait a minute, you’re not in Spain on vacation. right?"
"Who said I was on vacation?"
"Gina, I’m serious!!"
Gina chuckled. move to Spain. I’m currently working at a fried chicken shop."
Gina deliberately didn’t tell Alexandre everything, she was still keeping things close to her family in Barcelona.
"I see, but that’s okay. The important thing is that your job is a halal job, it doesn’t matter if you have to work in a fried chicken shop like that, Gina."
"Yes," Gina answered briefly. "But wait, for the past five years, brother means staying and..."
"Yes, I live and continue my education in this city with my parents." Alexandre cut Gina’s words quickly. "I majored in medicine as I told you before, Gina."
Clap.. clap...
Gina clapped her hands loudly. "Wow. be a doctor."
Alexandre chuckled. "Still a candidate, Gina. I’m also still in college right now."
"Same thing. I’m very happy to have a doctor friend," Gina said innocently.
Alexandre smiled at Gina’s laughter, the little girl he used to give food to has now grown into a beautiful and pleasant girl. During the trip around Barcelona, Gina and Alexandre talked a lot, the two of them discussed their fun childhood stories. Gina occasionally hit Alexandre’s arm calling him a crybaby, little Gina was often bullied by her friends because she didn’t have a father and Alexandre would usually appear as a hero who defends Gina when she is being bullied by others. This is what makes Gina have fond memories of Alexandre.
Gina and Alexandre’s pleasant conversation had to be ended because the double-decker car that was carrying them around Barcelona finally stopped at the last stop.
"Save my cell phone number, we’ll meet again later," Alexandre messaged Gina.
"Of course, you still owe popcorn debt to me," replied Gina with a smile.
Alexandre scratched his head uncomfortably when Gina mentioned the popcorn he had on the bus.
"sorry Gina, that was..."
"Just kidding, I’m not that bad at asking for a bucket of popcorn" Gina immediately cut off Alexandre’s words quickly.
Alexandre reached out his hand and ruffled Gina’s hair in annoyance, Alexandre’s actions stopped when a very loud female voice called Alexandre’s name. It didn’t take long for the woman who had previously mentioned Alexandre’s name to join Gina and Alexandre with another middle-aged woman.
"Mommy..." Alexandre mumbled softly when he saw his mother approaching.
"Alex, how many times has Mommy told you to keep your distance from strangers," the middle-aged woman who was none other than Alexandre’s mother rebuked loudly.
Alexandre’s face turned red. "Mom, she’s not a stranger. She’s Gina, Mom. Our neighbor when we lived in London, aunty Sandra’s daughter. My old playmate."
Alexandre’s mother looked at Gina from head to toe, trying to remember if the girl standing in front of her was really Gina or not.
"You’re Gina’s daughter from the washerwoman, aren’t you?"
Badump..
The smile on Gina’s face immediately disappeared when she heard the words of Alexandre’s mother.
"Mom, come on!"
Mrs Victoria turned to her son quickly. "Why? Did something go wrong? Wasn’t her mother a laundry maid, so where did Mommy go wrong?"
