His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 66: Waiting for Ethan Sinclair to Bring Up Divorce
Kiana Sutton’s face looked rather unpleasant. Just the thought of that birthday and all those bad memories came flooding back, bringing her unbearable pain and suffering.
It’s been almost a week—why would Stella Lynch bring that up?
Could it be she knows where Ethan Sinclair went?
Watching Kiana’s reaction, Stella’s smile grew even broader. "You didn’t ask Brother Ethan, did you? Because you don’t dare to face the truth! The truth is..."
Before Stella could finish, Joy Morgan interrupted sharply, "Are you done yet? You keep calling her husband ’Brother Ethan’—funny, I don’t recall Kiana having such a disrespectful little sister-in-law!"
"You’re just as afraid of Kiana learning the truth, aren’t you? Ha! Because we all know Brother Ethan doesn’t love Kiana. Even if it’s her birthday, there’s no way he’d go see her!"
Stella was arrogant and triumphant. "You don’t want to hear it, but I want to say it anyway. Because that night, my sister woke up—and Brother Ethan spent the whole night in the hospital with her."
Stella’s words slammed down on Kiana like a sledgehammer, smashing into her mind.
Kate Lynch woke up!
No wonder he never mentioned why he stood her up that night.
If Kate really woke up that night, then why did he come see her the next day? Why was he so gentle these past days, making her believe he cared?
"Brother Ethan hasn’t been to see you these days, has he? He’s been by my sister’s side nonstop, attentive and devoted. Kiana, now that my sister’s awake, your good days are over."
Seeing Kiana’s pale, devastated face made Stella feel utterly satisfied. Kiana had beaten her so many times before, but now—finally—she had her chance for revenge.
Joy steadied the wobbling Kiana, looking deeply worried. "Kiana... are you okay?"
Joy basically knew everything about Kiana. She’d tried persuading her to leave Ethan Sinclair, but Kiana loved him too much—she just wouldn’t budge, so Joy said nothing more.
Seeing Kiana like this, all she could feel was endless heartache.
"If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself in my sister’s hospital room. Don’t say I didn’t warn you—Brother Ethan loves my sister so much, he’ll definitely divorce you right away. Be smart, pack your things, and get the hell out of his villa!"
Joy glared at Stella, grinding her teeth. "What the hell is wrong with you? Haven’t you finished yet?"
There were plenty of people coming and going. Stella sneered, spat out a "trashy commoner" at Joy, and walked away in her high heels.
"Kiana... are you alright?"
Kiana’s mind went blank. Not wanting Joy to worry, she forced a smile and shook her head. "I’m fine. Let’s go back."
But to Joy, that smile looked worse than crying.
Once back in the hospital room, Kiana started painting. She seemed completely unaffected, even smiled and told Joy to take the rest of the fruit home since she couldn’t eat it all herself.
When it was time to pick up Willow, Joy had to leave. "Kiana, we’re friends. If anything happens, you must call me, okay? Even if it’s a divorce, don’t be afraid. I’ll go to the registry office with you. If Ethan dares bully you, I’ll be the first to fight him."
"Don’t worry. Things aren’t as bad as you think."
The worst... is just a divorce!
Yet just thinking about it made Kiana feel as if her heart were being sliced to pieces—pain she couldn’t endure.
Her mind was filled with nothing but the fact that Kate had woken up.
She stayed in her room for a long, long time, but still she couldn’t hold back. Limping, she went to Kate Lynch’s hospital room.
Standing at the door, Kiana looked through the window and saw Ethan—he hadn’t visited her for days—and he was sitting at Kate’s bedside, holding a white porcelain bowl in his left hand, spoon-feeding her porridge with his right.
After three years in a coma, Kate had woken up. She leaned against the pillows, staring at Ethan with a dazed infatuation. She looked frail, but there was always a gentle smile on her lips.
The air between them felt cozy and sweet.
Kiana’s eyes lowered as her rims grew red and hot.
So, Ethan wasn’t incapable of being tender—not incapable of caring. It was just that the one he cared for wasn’t her.
No wonder he dashed out of her room so anxiously that day after getting that call.
No wonder she sent so many messages, and he didn’t reply to any of them.
All along, he’d been with Kate Lynch.
Of course. Kate was the love of his life. Now that his "white moonlight" was awake, how could he possibly care about her anymore?
The next time they met, he’d probably ask her for a divorce, right?
The pain in her chest came in waves, leaving her breathless.
Kiana clenched her fists and slipped silently back to her own room.
That night, Kiana checked herself out of the hospital, took a cab back to the villa, packed up all her belongings, and waited for Ethan to bring up divorce.
...
Ethan Sinclair didn’t learn that Kiana had checked out until the next morning. He frowned. "Didn’t the doctor order her to stay for a month? Who let her discharge herself?"
Connor Grant: "Young Madam insisted on going home. The doctor couldn’t persuade her, so he told her to recover at home."
Seeing Ethan’s cold, dark expression, Connor cautiously added, "Young Madam seems to know about Miss Lynch waking up, and she knows you’ve been staying with Miss Lynch all this time."
Ethan was already frustrated, and this sent him over the edge. "So, what, she’s jealous and throwing a fit at me?"
"No, no, that’s not what I meant..."
"Hmph, if not for her father, would Kate be like this now? She wants to leave, let her go! Leave her alone!"
Ethan’s "leave her alone" meant another week of not coming home.
Kiana waited and waited for Ethan to come home and bring up divorce—but he never came.
When she’d almost recovered, Kiana was about to return to work when she got a message from Hannah Lowell.
"Kiana... I finally found a job. To celebrate my first day, our whole family’s going out for a nice meal—my treat!"
Kiana wondered if she was hallucinating, read the message several times, and finally believed it was really from Hannah. She was shocked—but relieved that Hannah had finally come to her senses.
"No need, since you’ve found work, just focus on your job..."
Before Kiana could finish typing, Hannah sent another message, this time a voice note.
"Kiana, it’s been ages since our family had a meal together. You’re always busy with work, Joshua’s busy with studies. It’s the weekend, I already called Joshua and he agreed. You’ll come too, won’t you?"
Another voice note came in right after.
"Mom knows she’s made a lot of mistakes, but I’ve turned over a new leaf now. We’ll wait for your dad to come home and be a proper family again, alright?"
