His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 54: Marriage... Can You Really Get Married?
Evan Shepherd couldn’t find Kiana Sutton, and broke out in a cold sweat from anxiety.
And yet, the several messages he sent to Kiana Sutton all disappeared without a trace. Thinking that Kiana might be in danger, he took out his phone and called her.
He thought, even if Kiana couldn’t speak, as long as she picked up the call and let him know she was safe, that would be enough.
At this moment, Ethan Sinclair hadn’t noticed the struggling Kiana Sutton at all.
The elevator doors were slowly closing, when suddenly a ring tone came from a corner of the restaurant.
Kiana rarely made phone calls, so Ethan had never actually heard her phone ring— even if he heard the ringtone, he wouldn’t have thought it was hers.
But Connor Grant, standing by the side, suddenly pressed the "open" button just as the elevator was about to close.
Ethan shot him a cold look, and Connor felt a chill run down his spine. He hurried to explain, "Fifth Master, that’s Young Madam’s favorite song—is it possible it’s her phone ringing?"
The phone kept ringing, but no one answered.
Ethan cast a chilly glance toward the restaurant, then looked at Connor with an icy expression. "Do you really think anyone would call a mute?"
Connor realized his reasoning didn’t hold up, so he silently let go of the button and instinctively retreated behind Ethan.
The elevator doors closed again, slowly...
But this time, they didn’t quite close before someone pressed the "open" button again.
This time, it wasn’t Connor—Ethan himself pressed "open."
Even Ethan couldn’t say where that sudden, strange feeling in his chest came from. The persistent ringtone seemed to warn him that if he ignored it, he might lose something important.
Connor watched as Ethan strode out of the elevator, stunned for a few seconds before following behind.
Ethan couldn’t describe how it felt when he saw Kiana by the couch: her cheeks flushed, hair disheveled, drenched in sweat, struggling to get up.
As for Connor, who followed, he was so excited all he could do was shout, "Young Madam! It’s really you!"
He hurried over and helped Kiana up. "Young Madam, what’s wrong?"
But when he saw Kiana’s state, Connor’s face changed dramatically. "Fifth Master, something’s wrong with Young Madam—come take a look, quick!"
Before Connor finished his sentence, Ethan yanked Kiana into his arms.
Kiana clung to Ethan like she had no bones, soft and limp in his embrace.
One look at Kiana and Ethan immediately knew what had happened. His face went dark, an icy aura radiating from him that chilled everyone nearby.
The scent and embrace of Ethan made Kiana feel safer.
But his ferocious energy made her body tremble uncontrollably.
Yet, the heat and strange sensations in her body overwhelmed her, so when she clung to Ethan she couldn’t help wanting to get closer, to hold him tighter, to even...kiss him.
Watching Kiana nuzzling into him, Ethan’s expression grew more terrifying. "Connor Grant, go bring the car around."
Connor quickly ran to get the car.
Ethan, expressionless, picked Kiana up and carried her out—just in time to run into Evan Shepherd.
When Evan saw Kiana in Ethan’s arms, his heart skipped a beat and he faltered for a moment.
Why is President Sinclair here?
And why is he carrying Kiana?
Kiana looked very uncomfortable, but she quietly leaned against Ethan. Evan suddenly had a strange feeling in his heart.
But there was no time to think. He hurried over to the two of them.
"President Sinclair, Kiana has had too much to drink. If she bothered you, I apologize on her behalf."
Speaking, Evan looked worriedly at Kiana. "Kiana, are you okay?"
He reached out to take Kiana from Ethan’s arms.
But before he could touch Kiana, Ethan dodged away with her, his eyes cold and dark as they glared at Evan.
He didn’t say anything, but Evan felt uncertain under his gaze, and forced himself to ask, "President Sinclair, what do you mean by this?"
"What is your relationship with Kiana Sutton?"
Evan didn’t know if Ethan had noticed Kiana’s unusual state, but he only knew he hadn’t finished his mission—he couldn’t let Kiana leave.
"Kiana and I are in love. I’ve even taken her to meet my grandmother." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Kiana was in agony from the drugs, twisting uncomfortably in Ethan’s arms.
She heard Evan’s voice and wanted to tell him she was fine, but her arms were too weak. She could only cling to Ethan with all her strength to keep from falling.
Before she could react further, Ethan’s cold voice asked what their relationship was.
Evan’s answer sent Kiana’s heart racing with anxiety.
In love?
Why would Evan say that—they’re just good friends, right?
And she came with Amy today to see his grandmother, but hearing it from Evan’s mouth, it sounded like they were meeting the parents together?
Kiana clung to Ethan’s neck, her watery eyes staring at him nervously, shaking her head the whole time.
She couldn’t let Ethan misunderstand, or today would be a disaster!
Ethan let out a sarcastic laugh, glanced coldly at Kiana, then at Evan, his tone icy: "Really? So, your big day is coming up soon, huh?"
The topic was already pushed this far, so Evan could only double down. "Yes! We’re planning to get married by the end of the year."
Kiana: "..."
Terror flickered across Kiana’s face, and she shook her head wildly. She had no idea why Evan would say this in front of Ethan, but those words were pushing her straight into the fire pit!
"Married? Ha...do you really think you’ll get married?"
As Ethan said this, his eyes stayed coldly fixed on Kiana.
The heat that consumed Kiana actually died down a bit under his stare. She realized if she didn’t do something now, she really was done for today.
Before she knew what she was doing, Kiana’s body acted first—she kissed Ethan’s thin, sexy lips...
This was the only thing she could do now, the only way to prove she and Evan were not in love.
Evan never expected that Kiana would kiss Ethan. In his mind, Kiana had always been afraid of Ethan!
It seemed like he was missing something, but for the moment, he couldn’t figure it out.
The drug’s effects tormented Kiana in waves. She buried her head against Ethan’s neck, desperately inhaling his scent.
Ethan was already burning from Kiana’s teasing, when Connor Grant burst in. "Fifth Master, the car is here."
Ethan carried Kiana outside. As he passed Evan, he tossed out coldly, "You really have guts, to try and steal what’s mine."
At that, Evan’s legs buckled, and he nearly collapsed to the floor...
Amy Manning arrived just in time to see the dazed and lost Evan Shepherd, but didn’t see Kiana. She grabbed him anxiously, "Judith, what’s wrong with you standing there? Where’s Kiana?"
Evan didn’t reply, stumbling out of the hotel.
"Judith...Judith..."
Amy grew worried and chased after him.
Moments later, Miles Goodman hurried over to the couch with a glass of water. When he saw the seat was empty and Kiana was gone, his face turned pale and the cup in his hand fell to the floor with a "smack."
"My cutie... Where’s my little cutie? Who stole my little cutie?!"
