His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 112: Ian, Am I Making Things Difficult for You?
Quinn Sinclair had originally wanted to pull Kiana Sutton aside to take some photos of just the two of them. But when she saw Kate Lynch approaching, she immediately pushed Kiana toward Ethan Sinclair.
"Bro, here, let me take a few pictures of you and your wife."
Before Ethan could say anything, Kate’s soft, frail voice sounded, "Ian..."
Seeing that Kate really did look pale and weak, as if she might collapse at any moment, Ethan couldn’t help but feel a little guilty inside.
He hadn’t really paid much attention to her today.
"What’s wrong? Are you feeling ill?"
Noticing Ethan’s concern for her, Kate felt a secret delight. So what if Ethan had slept with Kiana—right now, the one he cared about was her!
"Mm, my head feels a little dizzy, my legs are a bit weak, and I can’t find Stella anywhere. My parents had to leave early for something... Could you... take me home?"
As she spoke, Kate seemed to suddenly remember something, and looked at Kiana deliberately. "Miss Sutton, I really don’t feel well. If Ian takes me home, you won’t mind, will you?"
Kiana’s face turned extremely unsightly. Clearly, Kate wasn’t asking for her opinion—she was putting her on the spot.
If she refused, she’d come off as petty, maybe even piss off Ethan.
If she agreed, wouldn’t that mean she was admitting defeat?
Quinn especially hated this two-faced act of Kate’s. Thinking about how she’d been slapped by Ethan last time because of her, Quinn let out a cold snort, "Miss Lynch, are you all right? If you want to leave, there are plenty of people who can take you. Why does it have to be my brother? My brother needs to stay with my sister-in-law, he doesn’t have time for you!"
Quinn was always blunt, never knowing how to be "subtle." Kiana understood Quinn was standing up for her, but that only worried her more—afraid she’d anger Ethan again like before.
Just then, the Old Lady walked over.
"What’s going on?"
Quinn saw her ally had arrived and immediately recounted what had just happened to the Old Lady.
Noticing how Ethan kept glaring coldly at her, a warning in his eyes, Quinn ducked behind the Old Lady and made a face at him.
Hmph, with Grandma here, she wasn’t afraid of anyone now.
The Old Lady’s keen gaze swept over Kate, Ethan, and Kiana one by one, then she smiled at Kate, "Kate is our guest. If you’re not feeling well, of course Ethan should see you home..."
Kate immediately felt an overwhelming surge of joy—it all seemed unreal.
God, did the Old Lady finally realize she was more suitable to be Ian’s wife than Kiana?
It made sense—a woman like Kiana, from an ordinary background, had neither the family nor the upbringing to match Ethan Sinclair.
Especially on occasions like this, she was completely out of her depth.
Besides, she was a mute, and because of her, Ethan had become the subject of everyone’s gossip.
In the next moment, the Old Lady’s words shoved her straight back into hell.
"It’s just that there are too many guests tonight, and Ethan needs to help Kiana host them. I’m afraid he can’t take you."
Kate felt like she’d just been slapped across the face several times—her cheeks burning with pain.
She clenched her fists, unwilling to accept this, but there was nothing she could do.
She immediately nodded toward the Old Lady, looking hurt, but unwilling to say anything more. "Sorry, I was being unreasonable."
"It’s fine, I’ll have someone else take you home."
Right then, the Old Lady saw Miles Goodman walking over in a daze, and said mildly, "Miles, Kate’s not feeling well, can you take her home?"
Miles’ chest ached terribly, and seeing Kiana and Ethan together made the pain even worse, like salt in a wound.
"Old Lady, I’m not feeling well either, I can’t take her. Anyone who wants to, can."
Quinn gave Miles a big thumbs-up behind the Old Lady’s back. That’s her buddy, nailed it.
Kate suddenly felt like she was public enemy number one—her eyes reddened instantly.
Seeing her biting her lip, looking so lost and upset, Ethan walked right over, supporting her. "Come on, I’ll take you home."
The Old Lady’s face turned cold instantly. "Ethan..."
"The party’s almost over, there’s really no one else I need to host."
Kate gazed at Ethan with longing, her voice shaky, "Ian, maybe I should just call a cab myself, you..."
"Let’s go!"
Ethan didn’t spare Kiana a single glance. He left with Kate, just like that.
As Kate walked away, she glanced back at Kiana. Seeing the blood drain from her lovely face, a smug smile curved on Kate’s lips.
In the end, she’d won, hadn’t she?
Miles saw it all, his fists clenching in anger. Damn Ethan Sinclair—one moment he’s kissing Kiana, the next he just throws her aside. What the hell does he take her for?
The others looked cautiously at Kiana too. Kiana felt utterly miserable. Indeed—Ethan could sleep with her, but he would never truly love her.
Not wanting to worry anyone, Kiana forced a smile at the Old Lady and Quinn. "I’m all right, Grandma, Quinn, let’s go take some pictures."
In the car, Ethan’s face was dark as thunder. Every time Kate looked at him, she couldn’t help but remember the scene in the conference room. Imagining herself in Kiana’s place, her body heated involuntarily.
Carefully, she edged closer to Ethan. "Ian, I’m sorry. Did I cause you trouble?"
"No, don’t overthink it."
"I have no idea what I did to make the Old Lady dislike me so much, but I really came here today to sincerely wish her a happy birthday."
Ethan frowned slightly. Unless he remembered wrong, hadn’t Grandma been fond of Kate when they were kids?
So why did she seem so openly hostile toward Kate now?
Was it because of Kiana?
On second thought, Kiana loved him so much, yet the one he liked was Kate.
To Kiana, Kate was a love rival she resented. She must have accused Kate in front of Grandma.
She might not speak, but she sure knew how to complain.
Seeing Ethan stay silent, Kate felt even more uncertain inside.
When they reached the Lynch Family’s gate, Ethan got out and saw Kate inside.
Noticing how distracted Ethan seemed, Kate bit her lip, "Ian, it’s my eldest brother’s death anniversary the day after tomorrow... would you come with me to visit him?"
Kate’s brother was Felix Lynch. He’d been the pride of the family, but eight years ago, he died saving Ethan.
Before Felix died, he entrusted his two younger sisters to Ethan—this was the root of Ethan’s hatred for the Sutton Family after Kate became comatose.
And it’s why, every time Stella made a mess, Ethan would let her off again and again for Kate and Felix’s sake.
"Okay."
Kate smiled softly. "All right, you must be exhausted today. Go home and rest early. I should head in too."
"Mm."
Kate turned and headed for the house, but halfway there, she suddenly spun around and ran straight into Ethan’s arms.
She didn’t say anything, just hugged him tightly for a few moments, then let go and ran home.
Ethan stood outside the Lynch Family house, staring and lighting a cigarette in frustration...
