His Mute Wife: He Can't Sleep After She Left-Chapter 108: Sharp-Tongued Big Mouth
Kiana Sutton had no intention of making a scene, especially not at the matriarch’s birthday banquet; she only wished the old lady to be happy.
But if others doubted her and she didn’t answer the challenge today—even if that painting was in fact hers, no one would admit it.
It wouldn’t just be mocking her; it might even implicate the Sinclair Family and Ethan Sinclair as well.
Besides, it was obvious that Kate Lynch and Stella were fully prepared for this.
The best way to silence someone is to leave her speechless.
So, a live broadcast of Kiana Sutton painting was shown to all the guests.
Everyone thought she would at least take a few hours, but nobody expected she’d finish the painting in just three minutes.
When they saw the image on the screen, the whole crowd burst out laughing.
Kiana didn’t paint Stella in her usual likeness; instead, she made a very abstract portrait.
Thick eyebrows, tiny eyes, a flat nose, and an especially large mouth.
Each feature looked nothing like Stella on its own, but put together, anyone could immediately tell it was her.
Stella was so angry her face turned green. "Kiana Sutton, all I did was question you, but you drew me this ugly on purpose. What, feeling guilty?"
Kiana gave a faint smile, gestured a few times with her hands, then looked over at Chelsea Chapman, clearly asking Chelsea to translate for her.
Chelsea dutifully took on the role of interpreter. "Our Young Madam says she didn’t purposely paint you as ugly. That’s just how you look in her eyes."
The implication was that the old lady had always lived an upright, honest life, so in Kiana’s hand, she’s a kindly, amiable old lady.
But Stella was sharp-tongued and mean, and with that big mouth, her looks reflected her heart; the uglier the soul, the uglier the face.
Laughter erupted again all around. Stella’s face flushed red, then turned white, so furious she was about to explode.
"Miss Sutton doesn’t dare paint the real me because she’s afraid people will discover she’s a fraud?"
Kiana hadn’t had a chance to respond when someone who knew painting stepped up.
"Judging from the brushwork and stylistic features, the two paintings are indeed from the same hand. There’s just a slight flaw in the lines. Miss Sutton, is your hand injured?"
Kiana nodded lightly.
"Wow, even with an injured hand, you can paint like this? Truly, the younger generation is incredible."
For a moment, silent applause filled the banquet hall. Many were genuinely impressed, while others just wanted to curry favor with the Sinclairs.
Stella’s attempt to embarrass Kiana backfired, making her look like nothing but a clown and a complete laughingstock.
The Lynches’ faces were all sour—especially Kate, who’d hoped to shine at the banquet but was instead upstaged by Kiana.
Suddenly, she seemed to think of something. She approached Kiana wearing a look of remorse. "Miss Sutton, I apologize on Stella’s behalf. She didn’t mean to doubt you; she just didn’t want to see any fakery at the old lady’s celebration. Now that you’ve proven yourself with your skills, please be the bigger person and forgive her this once."
The mistake was obviously the younger sister’s, but the elder sister came forward to apologize for her instead.
The comparison triggered a wave of discussion: the Lynch family’s eldest daughter was clearly more sensible and docile than the younger one.
Just then, Quinn Sinclair stepped forward. She looked at the Lynch Sisters and said coolly, "It’s not like Second Miss Lynch is mute; does she really need her big sister to apologize for her?"
Quinn was determined to defend Kiana; she’d even quarrel with her own brother for Kiana’s sake, not to mention the Lynch Sisters she’d never liked.
Kate bit her lip but looked deeply at Ethan Sinclair, thinking, if Ethan truly loved her, he’d never let her be humiliated in front of so many people.
But seeing that Ethan wasn’t looking at her, and had been staring at Kiana the whole time, a wave of panic and unease washed over her.
And after Quinn’s comment, everyone’s gaze shifted instantly to Stella, who had never been so utterly humiliated. Her expression was beyond ugly.
She knew very well that if she didn’t apologize today, the Lynches would be utterly disgraced.
So, clenching her fists, she reluctantly said to Kiana, "Miss Sutton, I’m sorry."
Today was the matriarch’s birthday, and Kiana didn’t want to steal the show, so she just nodded gently to indicate it was fine.
"Hmph! My sister-in-law may not be able to talk, but she’s not that petty. I’ll just give Second Miss Lynch a word of advice—just because you can’t do something, doesn’t mean others can’t. Stop slapping your own face; it really hurts."
Quinn Sinclair was the pampered little princess that everyone doted on; when she wanted to roast someone, she’d roast them, never afraid to offend.
Stella was so upset she nearly burst into tears, and, unable to show her face any longer, ran out at once.
This little incident didn’t affect the mood; the atmosphere inside remained lively and harmonious.
Aura Sinclair had a good relationship with the Lynch Sisters. Seeing Stella wronged, she wanted to stand up for her.
Remembering the rumors that Ethan Sinclair liked Kate and not Kiana, Aura deliberately asked, "Fifth Brother, you know Grandma best. Guess which gift here is her favorite?"
Aura thought, since Ethan liked Kate, he’d surely speak up for her.
But for some reason, Ethan just kept staring at Kiana and didn’t respond to Aura at all.
It was the old lady who pointed at Kiana’s painting and laughed, "Of course, my favorite is Kiana’s painting."
Aura was exasperated and pressed on, "But Kate gave you a painting by Dorian Atwood, and Grandma, aren’t you always a huge fan of his?"
The old lady’s sharp eyes glanced at Aura and replied, "It’s not about the value of a gift, it’s the sentiment behind it. Dorian Atwood’s works are great, but the one Kiana painted of me is truly one of a kind."
Aura wanted to say more, but the old lady cut her off. "Aura, what are our family values?"
Hearing the sudden mention of family rules, Aura’s face immediately changed.
"Answer me!"
"Honesty, unity, kindness, and love."
"Have you lived up to those?"
Aura knew the old lady was warning her and didn’t dare carry on.
After the gift-giving segment, it was time for dinner and relaxation.
Everyone mingled and toasted each other, making a cheerful racket.
Kiana went to the restroom, only to encounter Miles Goodman waiting for her just as she came out.
"Kiana, come with me!"
Kiana hadn’t even processed what was happening before Miles dragged her over to a lounge area.
Noticing her high heels, Miles first let Kiana sit down and then produced a jar of ointment from his pocket.
Kiana was momentarily stunned and gestured with her hands, "What’s that?"
"I got someone to make this scar cream especially for you. Apply it to the scar three times a day. Within a month or so, it’ll be gone without a trace."
Kiana hadn’t thought Miles would actually remember the ointment for her scar and was so touched she gave him a big thumbs-up in thanks.
Back in the banquet hall, Ethan Sinclair couldn’t find Kiana and yanked Quinn aside, asking, "Where’s Kiana Sutton?"
"Sister-in-law went to the restroom, I think."
Kate had originally wanted to talk to Ethan, but before she could get close, she saw Ethan already leaving.
She didn’t think much of it and hurried after him.
