High Martial Arts: Enlightenment after Practices-Chapter 58: A New Goal
The training room.
Xu Wuyi and Teacher Wang Wenhai sat across from each other.
Teacher Wang looked at his somewhat dazed expression and couldn’t help but laugh. "Surprised? Didn’t expect Principal Zhang to be that kind of person, did you?"
"I really... didn’t expect it." Xu Wuyi couldn’t help but laugh as well.
Teacher Wang, however, waved his hand. "Principal Zhang comes from a military background; he can’t stand any nonsense. As for today’s incident, those few from the Martial Arts Association were originally going to deliver the notice through the Battle Network, but he cursed them out so badly they logged off."
Xu Wuyi’s mouth fell open. The thought of that scene was hilarious.
"So when he said he’d go to the Capital and file a complaint if you get into the provincial top ten, he wasn’t joking."
Wang Wenhai added, "Many of his old comrades-in-arms are now high-ranking military officials or hold positions in various departments. He might be too embarrassed to ask them for a favor, but if it’s about lodging a complaint and making trouble for someone, I’m sure many of them would be happy to help."
But Xu Wuyi thought for a moment before asking, "Su Yueling is talented too, and she’s a Grandmaster’s Disciple. If Principal Zhang files a complaint, will it actually work?"
Xu Wuyi didn’t think the Lin Family was powerful enough to blot out the sky with one hand. The main reason they could shift the spot to Su Yueling was that Su Yueling herself was qualified enough.
"It’s different." Teacher Wang shook his head. "The provincial top ten is a threshold. Anyone who can test into that rank is a genius among geniuses."
"If a dark horse gets in without special recruitment or provincial city training, it can even be counted as an achievement for the Martial Arts Association."
"But if it’s the other way around—someone was supposed to go to the special recruitment exam but couldn’t because of outside interference—then someone is going to be in for a world of hurt."
Xu Wuyi had a moment of realization. Now he truly understood.
"Besides, you don’t need to worry too much about the special recruitment exam," Wang Wenhai added. "You were a late bloomer, so your potential is far from being fully tapped, and the exam starts in two days."
Xu Wuyi heard the hidden meaning in Teacher Wang’s words.
"Teacher Wang, are you saying you don’t think I’d necessarily perform well if I went to the special recruitment exam?" he asked directly, without overthinking it.
"That’s right."
Teacher Wang was blunt: "Your True Intention of Martial Arts is your greatest asset right now. Aside from that, neither your Life Energy Level nor your Martial Arts is particularly remarkable when placed among a group of geniuses."
"Geniuses from all nineteen cities in the province will gather. People like Li Mo and Zhao Ding will be everywhere. There will be at least twenty to thirty participants, but in the end, Dongjiang Province usually has fewer than ten people who make the special recruitment list."
"More importantly... weapons are allowed in the special recruitment exam."
Xu Wuyi fell silent. If it came down to a fight with weapons, he could only use the unremarkable Wind-Settling Spear, while many geniuses had masters and a lineage.
The Martial Arts passed down by famous masters are, of course, all weapon-based.
Take Su Yueling, for example. If she had a longsword in her hand, it would probably be very difficult to defeat her, even if he had an explosive burst from his True Intention of Martial Arts.
"Never mind all that. The most important thing right now is your own Martial Arts training," Teacher Wang said, interrupting his thoughts.
He paused, then looked at Xu Wuyi. "Getting into the provincial top ten is harder than getting into the Three Greats. You’ll need a Life Energy Level of at least 13 just to be in the running."
Level 13!
Xu Wuyi’s heart tightened.
Based on previous years, getting into the Seven-Star Alliance required a Life Energy Level of at least 11.5, while getting into the "Three Greats" jumped directly to 12.5.
And that was just the minimum requirement. It meant that the lowest-scoring admitted student was at that level, not that everyone who reached that level could get in.
The same logic applied to the top ten. Level 13 was just the most basic requirement; most of the geniuses who reached that tier were likely above Level 13.
Among the people Xu Wuyi knew, for example, Yu Peiling was already at Level 13 before the winter break, a level he still hadn’t reached.
Li Mo’s 12.7 had already made him feel a huge gap; Level 13 was another qualitative leap.
Another example: Chu Shanhe, who won the Provincial Youth Martial Arts Tournament at the end of last year, already had a Life Energy Level of 14 at the time.
And he would also be taking this year’s college entrance exam, hailed as a strong contender for the title of Martial Arts top scorer in Dongjiang Province.
In front of people like these, even if the gap in Life Energy Level were closed, Xu Wuyi would probably still struggle to gain an advantage in Martial Arts.
As if sensing his thoughts, Teacher Wang said, "Life Energy Level is the foundation of everything."
"Only with a high Energy Level can you practice more advanced Martial Arts and fight against higher-level opponents, thereby improving your Martial Arts."
He leaned forward slightly and lowered his voice. "Aside from Potions, the fastest way to raise your Life Energy Level is to practice a higher-level Body Refining Technique!"
A thought sparked in Xu Wuyi’s mind.
The Basic Body Refining Technique he was currently cultivating was just the public version, the most common technique provided by the Federation.
But there are two sides to every coin. Being common also meant it lacked specialization and wasn’t designed according to an individual’s specific traits.
Xu Wuyi’s Basic Body Refining Technique had already reached the Minor Achievement stage, but his progress after that had been slow, only picking up after he comprehended the True Intention of Martial Arts.
This was essentially limited by two factors: first, his Life Energy Level was insufficient, and second, the tier of his Cultivation Technique was too low.
He had an "Enlightenment" on the Basic Body Refining Technique every day, but the knowledge he could gain was diminishing. In other words, at his current stage, he had almost completely figured out this Cultivation Technique.
To reach the Great Success or even the Perfection stage, he would have to circulate his Qi and Blood with a much higher Life Energy Level to uncover its deeper mysteries.
"A High-Tier Body Refining Method..." Xu Wuyi murmured. "Can you just buy something like that on the open market?"
He knew that things like this were usually monopolized by the major powers and families, rarely circulating on the market.
"Through official channels, it’s very difficult. Either you have a master to teach you, or you spend a fortune buying one from certain special channels, and even then, its origins might not be clean, which can easily lead to trouble."
Wang Wenhai’s tone shifted. "But now, we have a better way. You could even say it’s tailor-made for talented students from the lower class, like you."
"Teacher Wang, are you talking about... the Battle Network?"
Xu Wuyi immediately understood.
If the Battle Network even had Mental Realm Fragments for the Wind-Settling Spear available for exchange, it wasn’t strange that it would also have High-Tier Body Refining Methods.
"Smart!" Wang Wenhai snapped his fingers. "The Battle Network’s exchange system contains a massive collection of Martial Arts, both publicly released by the Federation and authorized by various powerful individuals. This includes multiple B-level and even A-level Body Refining Techniques."
"As long as you have the money, you can exchange for the complete training content from Beginner to Great Success, as well as a one-time consciousness experience for each stage."
Xu Wuyi nodded repeatedly as he listened.
This was indeed the most direct method, and it perfectly suited the needs of his [Martial Arts Diligence Record]—
As long as there was a correct and complete path, all that remained was investment and repetition!
"That must cost a lot of money, right?" Xu Wuyi asked. He knew the value of High-tier Martial Arts.
"Based on their overall value, a B-Level Cultivation Technique usually costs between 800,000 and 1,200,000 Federation Coins. Since a Body Refining Technique isn’t a Martial Art, it’s a bit cheaper."
At this, Wang Wenhai couldn’t help but wink and smile. "Now you know why Principal Zhang had the school sponsor you for another five hundred thousand, don’t you?"
