Heroine-Saving System: Reborn In A Third-Rate Manga As The Protagonist-Chapter 81: Resolved Incident
"Aah!" Kuu waved her hands in the air while her black hair bounced as she floated next to Reona.
The students were in their second class which was Math and it was usually taught by Mr. Takemichi.
"Reona-chan, I’m flying!"
Reona gave her a look as her eye twitched.
"Kuu-chan... we’re not flying but floating." She said.
There had been an announcement made by the Principal just now and bounty Hunters were attacking the school. "Do you think Onii-chan is alright...?"
"Your Onii-chan?" Kuu gave her a look before smiling brightly. "Of course! Onee-san said he was really strong... and I know my Onee-san will be alright too."
"You’re right." Reona gave a small nod and then focused on the classroom around her.
The students were scared and floating helplessly but the door was sealed tight, the windows were shut, and Mr. Takemichi was a three-liner. What could possibly go wrong?
Everything went wrong the next instant.
The door opened easily... the lock mechanism was completely bypassed and someone walked in casually, closing it behind him.
"Hoho... this is Class 3-B’s Math class, right?" The guy asked. He was wearing a technological suit which was full body armor with integrated systems. A mask made his voice sound deeper and more mechanical plus in his hands: a high-grade combat rifle.
The students felt their breaths catch in their throats.
Mr. Takemichi immediately entered a fighting stance, whipping his cane forward defensively. "And so what if it is?"
The man tilted his head, examining the teacher like an insect. "Good... I’m looking for two students. First is a boy called Tetinus Itu... honestly don’t know why you even have such a weird-ass name and Amagi Reona. While your brother isn’t a priority kill, our Boss wants him to work for us, so it isn’t much to keep you contained some—"
"Bzzt! You’re saying too much to the victims." His earpiece crackled sharply.
The man sighed. "I understand... leave it to me."
He pointed his gun directly at Takemichi.
The teacher didn’t hesitate... He dashed forward mid-air with the help of mana, chanting under his breath to gather mana.
Unlike prestigious academies, this public middle school didn’t have premium access to Blue or Red liners as security... They had to make do with what they had.
Takemichi stabbed his cane forward in a singular thrust which was aiming for the center mass; however the man merely leaned to the side and dodged the stab with ease, like he’d seen it coming from a mile away.
His rifle clicked.
There was silence and then that silence shattered with the sound of a gunshot.
BANG!
Mr. Takemichi’s face was blown in half by the high-caliber round and the dead teacher slumped to the ground with blood spreading across the floor in zero-gravity... falling like floating droplets like crimson stars.
The students screamed and the bounty hunter fired a shot into the air.
BANG!
"Quiet down!" he yelled. They did... immediately with terrified expressions on their faces.
"The people I called... come to the front one by one. If that happens, I won’t kill the rest of you." His voice was cold. "It’s a simple transaction."
Silence fell over the classroom like a blanket.
A chubby boy came out first... He was short, with matted brown hair and flabby cheeks, he was smart-looking in his uniform too.
He floated forward carefully, using desks and chairs to push himself along in the zero-gravity environment.
Reona bit her lip hard enough to draw blood then stood up slowly.
She pushed off her desk, using the wall for guidance, floating toward the front of the classroom.
Her hands found purchase on desk edges and chair backs... which was anything solid.
In zero-gravity, you moved by pushing off surfaces... Izana’s third law became your only method of propulsion.
Mr. Takemichi’s body was right there with half his face gone and blood everywhere. Reona felt like throwing up but didn’t but couldn’t though she didn’t feel anything. People died everyday after all.
"Good," the bounty hunter said, fumbling at his belt pouch. "Now I’ll deploy the gravity discs and we can get away from he—"
A hand crashed through the wooden door and grabbed his head.
"Uh... what the—!"
He was yanked through the door with tremendous force and the door shattered completely with wood splinters exploding outward.
Koya appeared in the doorway, having just thrown the bounty hunter upward into the ceiling with enough force to crack the plaster.
The man regained his orientation mid-air and landed on the ceiling with his boots finding purchase on the surface.
Koya glanced at Reona and gave her a small nod and relief flooded her face.
’What kind of big brother would I be if I didn’t save her?’ he thought, meeting her thankful eyes. He could get used to this feeling.
BANG!
Danger Sense screamed. A bullet was coming straight for his face... and Koya covered his hand with Fighting Spirit, the energy crackled around his knuckles then he slapped the bullet to the side mid-flight.
It hit the wall opposite the classroom and drilled a hole clean through.
"My bullets didn’t wor—"
Koya didn’t let him finish.
He pushed his leg against the doorframe. The key to moving properly in zero-gravity was pushing off surfaces but it wasn’t just that.
If you let yourself go, you’d float upward helplessly but gathering mana in your body, concentrating it, made you functionally heavier and created artificial weight.
Koya shot upward like a missile with his fist already reared back and the bounty hunter raised his rifle to defend.
CRACK!
The impact sent the man flying through the ceiling, spinning wildly into the open air outside. Koya followed immediately, bursting through the hole.
The outside was complete chaos with cars flipping through the air in slow tumbles and trees that had been uprooted floating like asteroids, debris was everywhere and people were screaming from nearby buildings.
The man coughed violently as his back collided with a floating sedan. His visor glitched.
"What are my orders?" he asked through his comm system. This whole operation would be better if this stupid gravity malfunction hadn’t forced them to adapt on the fly.
"Bzzt! Your orders have been changed... Capture Amagi Koya alive."
The man gritted his teeth and discarded his broken rifle, letting it drift away before cracking his knuckles.
"Order received."
He kicked off the car, soaring downward to meet Koya who was moving upward toward him.
Right before their fists connected...
CRACK!
The sound of a sniper shot tore through the air and both of them stopped mid-flight, fists millimeters from each other’s faces.
They looked toward the source.
A young woman wearing all black gear had just shot through the head of one of the bounty hunters on a distant rooftop in a clean kill.
It was Mio. She dropped the rifle... that was the second-to-last bounty hunter that Pale had sensed in the area. The last one was right here in the air.
She looked up at Koya and the suited man, flashed him a quick thumbs-up, then ran off across the rooftops using her grappling hook.
The bounty hunter blinked with a confused expression then Koya’s fist slammed into the side of his face.
The man went spinning, but recovered quickly and they exchanged blows mid-air with their bodies spinning and twisting in the weightless environment.
The bounty hunter threw a right hook with augmented strength from his suit servos and Koya weaved left, the fist passing millimeters from his face before he countered with an uppercut that the man barely blocked with his forearm.
CRACK!
The impact created a small shockwave. They kicked off each other, spinning in opposite directions through the air and then used floating debris to redirect their momentum.
Koya pushed off a tumbling car and sent it spiraling away while the bounty hunter used a school sign and bent it with the force.
They met again mid-air, trading rapid strikes. The man was good and looked to be trained extensively like a professional combat specialist however Koya was simply better.
After his bloodline awakening with Hakai last night, he’d noticed significant changes to his body.
He moved more fluidly than before... his reactions for instance were faster and his instincts were a lot sharper than ever plus his muscle response time drastically improved as well.
His physical strength had increased several-fold and everything felt smoother like his body was finally operating at the level his mind had always known it could. He could keep up with Sensory without needing to use Speed Blitz so he wasn’t just stronger...
He was fundamentally better.
He twisted mid-air with impossible grace, dodging a straight punch by mere centimeters, and delivered a spinning back-kick that caught the man directly in the ribs.
CRACK!
The armor plating shattered like glass and the internal systems sparked. The man coughed blood inside his helmet and Koya could see the red mist spray against the inner visor but the bounty hunter wasn’t done yet.
His tech suit whirred mechanically as the hydraulics engaged and the man shoved something hard against Koya’s chest while they were still in close range.
It was a grenade.
Koya’s eyes widened.
BOOM!
The explosion lit up the entire sky... a massive sphere of fire and concussive force expanding outward in all directions.
The shockwave shattered nearby windows and sent debris flying, creating a miniature sun for three seconds.
When the smoke cleared seconds later... Koya emerged from the other side completely unharmed with not even a scratch.
He’d activated Mana Mode at the last possible instant and surrounded his entire body with a dense layer of concentrated mana that absorbed and dispersed the blast energy, creating a perfect defensive barrier.
’My mana control also feels smoother.’ He thought, he could harden this mana around him easily to create a barrier and he could also revert it back to it’s normal state.
Sex with Hakai was honestly the best thing that could happen to him...
The bounty hunter’s eyes went wide behind his cracked visor.
"What the... you’re supposed to be dead—"
His right arm morphed rapidly. The mechanical components shifted and reconfigured and the arm transformed into a fully functional machine gun.
Koya moved behind a floating car immediately and used it as cover. The man let it rip without hesitation.
BRRRRRRRRRT!
The distinctive sound of hundreds of rounds per second and tracer fire lit up the air.
The car was absolutely shredded with metal tearing like paper and the glass shattering into a million pieces.
It exploded mid-air in a massive ball of flame and shrapnel, however there was no sign of Koya anywhere.
The bounty hunter spun in a full circle, firing in multiple directions systematically and destroyed several more floating cars in the process creating a perimeter of debris and fire. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
There was still no Koya.
The man’s breathing was heavy inside his helmet. "Where are you?! Come out!"
He fired again and more cars exploded leaving more destruction but there was nothing.
He chuckled darkly, his voice sounded distorted through his damaged vocal modulator. "Come out, come out, wherever you’re hiding! I know you’re there somewhere!"
Then there was movement to his left.
Koya revealed himself with his hands raised high in surrender floating passively next to a blue sedan about twenty meters away.
The bounty hunter didn’t hesitate even for a microsecond and fIred.
The machine gun roared. Bullets tore through the air in a concentrated stream. They ripped through the figure completely... shredding it apart but it wasn’t flesh and blood that scattered.
It was darkness... A perfect silhouette made from Darkness Manifestation, holding physical shape just long enough to fool the eye and draw fire.
The construct dissolved into wisps of black mist and the real Koya was directly behind him.
’Darkness Manifestation is incredibly useful,’ Koya thought as he grabbed the back of the man’s helmet. ’But it drains mana fast so if I’m using it, I need to be conservative.’
He slammed the bounty hunter downward with a powerful kick.
The man went spinning toward the ground, but twitched mid-fall and activated stabilizers in his boots regaining balance.
His machine-gun arm morphed again and became a taser that was crackling with electricity then morphed again and became a missile launcher.
Koya stared at it.
The guy hadn’t attacked him with any spell yet and no physical attacks too...
’Did that mean he isn’t Awakened and just a regular human with advanced equipment?’
He couldn’t get a proper read through the damaged visor so he’d have to see for himself.
The bounty hunter had regained full control now and Koya had wasted his advantage by hesitating. The man didn’t waste his.
He raised the missile launcher and fired three shots.
FWOOSH!
FWOOSH!
FWOOSH!
Mini-missiles streaking through the air and Koya expelled three fireballs from his palms.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
They collided mid-air with explosions luckily the blast range wasn’t high, so Koya avoided damage but through the smoke...
A hook shot forward and it was aimed at his shoulder. Koya moved at the last millisecond, the hook passing millimeters from his skin and then he grabbed the cable and focused his Lightning affinity into it.
Electricity surged down the metal wire, lighting it up like a Christmas decoration. The bounty hunter had no way to defend and his entire suit began shocking him from the inside.
The systems failed and the armor conducted the current directly into his body.
He screamed.
One of the gravity discs on his waist activated from the electrical surge... malfunctioned and launched him downward with tremendous force.
Koya drew the cable up in a spinning motion, fighting against the sudden gravitational pull on the suited man, then released after spinning him in the air.
The bounty hunter went flying toward the ground like a meteor.
CRASH!
He slammed into the pavement with enough force to crack concrete, creating a small crater. Koya landed shortly after, still holding the cable, and walked over calmly and looked down at the broken, twitching figure.
"Who sent you?" he asked. "What were the mission requirements?"
The man coughed blood.
"Bounty... Hunter... Honor..." His voice was barely a wheeze. "Won’t... betray..."
Koya sighed and then kicked him through the chest.
CRUNCH!
His foot went straight through the damaged armor plating, through ribs, and pierced the heart followed by blood and pulped flesh.
He pulled his foot back and looked at the red coating it. ’It doesn’t really matter. I’ll have Hakai take down the bounty listing when I get home.’
SCREEEECH!
The intercom system crackled across the entire school campus.
"ATTENTION. The gravitational stabilization array has been successfully repaired. Gravity will return to normal in ten seconds... Please brace for impact. The Keropolis Police Department is en route. I repeat—"
Koya sighed and sat down next to the body, feeling gravity slowly reassert itself. He was going to take credit for this. Mio had run off and probably didn’t want the attention.
Besides, she worked for him indirectly since he was Hakai’s husband... No way she could refute it even if she wanted to.
...
Koya walked through the parking lot.
It was full of Keropolis Police Department vehicles... patrol cars, SWAT vans, and even forensics units.
Like any world, police arrived last to the scene of heavy crime but at least they were covering up the bodies now, preventing civilian panic.
The surrounding area was a disaster zone. Uprooted trees had crashed onto building roofs, some impaled through fences.
Telekinetic officers were carefully lifting cars back into organized rows in the parking lot and emergency personnel was everywhere.
Koya recognized the captain immediately... it was the same one from when he had been kidnapped, and he explained he’d handled the threat then took full credit.
"You’ll be given the bounty rewards," the captain said, making notes. "Minus administrative fees... it should be substantial."
The school was paying for damages while also offering reward money. He could get used to this.
Now he stood in front of Nami’s car and opened the passenger door and noise immediately hit his ears.
Reona and Kuu were playing around in the back seat, laughing, acting like nothing had happened. Mio was there too... apparently she needed a ride and Nami had agreed.
Koya sat down.
Nami puffed her cheeks and looked at him with an expression somewhere between relief and frustration.
People in this world were resistant to trauma... People died every day in monster attacks, criminal incidents, Awakened conflicts. It was psychotic to laugh after watching someone die.
But he couldn’t say much. He’d just stomped through a man’s heart.
"How about we all go get some ice cream?" he suggested and they all agreed enthusiastically.
The car pulled out of the parking lot.
Right now he was more worried about how to spend a million crowns before Hakai made him sleep outside.
’I wonder how Victoria’s doing...’
...
"Alright, again!" Hakai yelled.
Victoria charged forward wearing martial arts clothes that Hakai had personally selected... They were lightweight, flexible and designed for combat.
She launched a powerful roundhouse kick while Hakai raised her hand to defend.
BOOM!
The impact threw shockwaves through the air, rippling outward in visible distortions.
"You have a strange amount of strength as usual," Hakai said, analyzing the technique. "But your kicks are more on-point now with better form. You’re learning."
Hakai’s body was completely healed from last night’s... activities. She wore a similar training outfit.
They were at the top of a mountain in the Outer Zone of Isle Supercity... specifically, the peak of the secret Order training facility built into the mountain itself and watching from the sidelines was Disguise Master, holding a pair of towels.
She sighed dreamily as she watched Hakai’s body move with perfect martial precision. Victoria’s physique was amazing as well.
The way their breasts rippled under the clothes...
It was a shame both women belonged to that bastard man.
"Thank you," Victoria said as they skidded away from each other.
They each took similar combat stances.
"Fight?" Victoria asked.
"Yes we shall."
The two women collided.
BOOOOM!
The shockwave was so intense that Disguise Master was literally blasted off the top of the mountain from the wind pressure alone, screaming as she tumbled through the air.
Neither fighter noticed... They were too focused on trying to kill each other.
