Actually, I can write for a long time with any random side plot, but then it becomes endless. To have a reasonable conclusion, I must strictly follow the main story line, develop it step by step rationally. If I keep writing side plots, the ending will be very abrupt, the holes dug before will be filled with a bulldozer, briefly skimming over, and it’ll end poorly.
To write the main storyline, every plot must be interconnected, mutually influenced, resonating with what was written before. This entails considering how to write the next hundreds of thousands of words, think about how to end it, then start organizing the foreshadowing in the earlier text from now, planting new foreshadowing, deriving the direction of the plot, figuring out what every character should do, what impact they should have on each other, how each line should interweave, how it should develop step by step, how to set up the twists and turns, and how to wrap up all lines to the same endpoint in the end.
This is like playing chess, you have to think far ahead. Therefore, it’s difficult for me to make big strides in advancing the plot every day, sometimes I can only write some transitional plots, introduce some characters, settings, data that will appear later, etc. However, once I’ve thought out the detailed outline, the plot will advance quickly.
