Chapter 1501 Arrya's Agreement

With the pasha personally giving the order, the painter had Alexander and Arrya's portrait out as soon as he could, finishing the entire thing within two days. And considering the time constraints, it came out quite well, capturing much of the elegance of the study and more importantly the exact details of the two people inhabiting it. Both of them were dressed in their finest attires with Alexander especially looking fetching as much of Arrya's beauty was hidden under the golden veil. In fact, due to this, Alexander even wondered if this portrait of hers would count. But the noble girl assured him that her parents would never mistake their own daughter, especially her mesmerizing crystal blue eyes.

Hence the painter was asked to especially focus there, and as the portrait was finished, it depicted Arrya in a very serene, elegant pose, her hands softly lying on her lap, as she directly looked at the painting, with eyes so blue that it was almost hypnotic. While opposite of her, across the glass coffee table sat a handsome young man with a chiseled, clean shaven face and dark hair, also looking very regal in his gorgeous attire, This was one of the few times Alexander actually made an effort to appear stately, wishing to make a good impression on those meant to see him.

The pasha would then also make the lady write that letter he promised Vidiyan, although it was something Arrya initially quite a bit reluctant to do. She naturally had no goodwill towards the man who had killed all her bodyguards and maids and then taken her captive. And so she definitely wished to make life difficult for him.

Hence upon learning why she was being asked to fabricate such a story, she initially resisted, claiming she did not want to lie. Rather she wished to say the truth and promised her parents would be more than overjoyed at the news of her whereabouts to ever harm the pirate. She even proposed to write an additional plea, urging her parents to safeguard the man's safety.

But Alexander refused.

For because being the half paranoid man he was, he instinctively smelled something fishy. He could not exactly tell why, perhaps this was due to him spending so much time with her, playing games like poker and blackjack, games that Arrya was quite bad at, or perhaps simply out of instinct, but somehow he thought Arrya's reluctance was not truly over this.

In addition, he also thought the shipwreck story sounded much better than an 'evil' Pasha buying or being gifted the stunning beauty of a slave. This he feared would raise a whole other range of questions among the Iyizardian elites- particularly concerns about her purity. Any man who saw Arrya's face and did not feel anything clearly had something wrong with him down there. Alexander also wanted to keep his promise to Vidiyan.

So Alexander insisted the lady write the letter just as he intrusted, managing to at last wear the lady down using a mixture of threats and incentives.

The incentive was simple- by writing the letter Arrya would get to see her parents and be soon on her way home.

The threat was also simple- there was a limit to how much free loading Alexander could let her do without asking for something in return. And if Alexander one day decided to start charging her, this lady knew very well she would not be able to afford even a single meal.

Earning her keep through hard, honest work was simply not possible for this foreigner.

As a noble lady, Arrya certainly did not know how to do any household chores. So she could not be a maid, a cook, or a sweeper… let us not even consider how demeaning these works about be in the eyes of this noble young girl. While despite being learned, given she did not even speak the language, Arrya could hardly be a tutor for younger noble ladies.

Now, of course, if she was truly determined, Arrya might have indeed gritted her teeth and taken whatever job she could, fumbling her way through and living hand to mouth. But as a pampered noble lady who had never done a single hour of honest work in her life, the thought of doing such menial tasks and ruining her face and hands hardly seemed appealing.

Especially as the condition posed by Alexander was hardly so grave to guarantee such a drastic response. Plus even if she did start earning her own keep, Arrya did not think it would solve the other much greater danger. Which was that recently the blonde girl had started to feel Alexander's gaze start to linger longer and longer on her each day. And even this verdant maiden could see the desires hidden within those.

So Arrya feared the longer she stayed in this man's house, the greater the chances of the man ultimately making a demand she was unable to refuse.

And credit to her, this was not some baseless paranoia. Arrya's womanly instinct was right on the point. Knowing the bird was about to escape its cage, Alexander suddenly felt a certain part of his heart start to itch with immense regret, as flashes of that night he had with Cambyses and Arrya constantly flared up in his memory.

A portion of him thought it would be a great loss to let such a beauty escape his grasp without ever getting to taste her.

Thus soon devilish thoughts began to assault him, 'You have housed, clothed, and fed her for so many months. You deserve her. Go on, do not hesitate, take her.'

'If you hesitate you are going to lose her for good! Come on, it's just one night, what will even happen? Nobody will care.'

'If you are so worried about her chastity, have her from the back. Your wife already proposed it the first night, remember? Recall that piping hot canal, surrounded by those golden pubes… *Tsk*... what are you waiting for? Enjoy her without any qualms!' Alexander of course managed to squash all these thoughts to dust as soon as they appeared.

Yet the seeds had still remained, flaring up regularly at fixed intervals.

Hence Alexander was also a bit impatient to hand this beautiful girl over to her parents and out of his house before he did something deplorable. ...

"My lord, rest assured, I will return with all that you have entrusted me. The Iyizardians cannot stop me!" On the docks, Vidiyan remade his promise to Alexander just before his departure, solemnly holding his hands above the chest as a sign of respect.

Then also swiftly added, "Ahhh… also I apologize for not gifting you a translator when I first gifted you Lady Arrya. It was a great oversight on my part, my lord."

"The good news is my men have already told me of an Iyizardian noblewoman they know. She lives in a small town and can speak multiple languages. Apparently, she picked these up due to her work. It is just that… she works as a who… street woman." Vidiyan was reticent to reveal the last part as he knew many nobles would not like hiring such a lower class lady. He also cleverly changed the word at the last second when through the corner of his eyes he detected Cambyses standing right next to her husband. Socially it was very frowned upon to say such vulgar words from the 'male vocab' in from of respected ladies of the upper class. "So… would you accept such a lady, my lord?" The pirate captain then ended. "No problem. Bring her." And Alexander immediately approved the posting with an imperious wave of his hand, not even putting into the ear the lady's former occupation. Alexander was not like other nobles, and even had a far more intimate relation with a lady from the same profession. In fact, she was one of his wives. So this was hardly even worth his consideration. "Ahhh, great, great! My lord is generous, my lord is generous!" And finding his job being made significantly easier naturally caused the pirate captain to break into his familiar grin, happily nodding his head and oiling Alexander up.

"Then what salary should I offer her?" Vidiyan afterward asked for details. To which Alexander once again officiously waved his hand, "Does not matter. Accept whatever she asks. Just get her by all means as soon as possible. The rest we can discuss in person."

Alexander sounded like this was a trivial matter not even worth discussing.

And this 'money is not a concern' casual attitude both greatly impressed as well as slightly stung Vidiyan, since he was overcome with some jealousy.

How could he not?

As a pirate, this was his ultimate dream- to live atop a mountain of riches with no worries about spending it. However the man soon found even his idol could not be totally hands free with his money. Although Alexander was very open with his purse, his wife was not, preferring to hold the strings much more lightly.

So sending him a concealed glare, the young girl lightly stepped forward, and gently overruled her husband,

"We will not accept any outrageous demands. Tell the woman her salary will be somewhere around 400 to 500 ropals a month… she is free to negotiate more if she is skilled enough."
