Chapter 73: 73. Choose a Dog_1

Song Tan crouched down, with Spiritual Energy surging and condensing into the palm of her hand. Then she clapped her hands:

“Come over, all who like me!”

In that instant, the Spiritual Energy, like smoke dispersed by a pat, wound around her hands without dissipating. Sun Shouping had been standing by with a smile, but his expression gradually shifted to one of utter surprise.

Because his dozen or so dogs were now all pricking up their ears, looking spirited!

The next second, they all charged over!

“Woof!”

Song Tan burst into laughter, her crouched figure enveloped by more than a dozen dogs, their fluffy heads constantly reaching over, sniffing her palm with their wet noses before being pushed away by other dog heads.

From a distance, one could no longer see Song Tan’s figure.

Sun Shouping’s face went numb—though he had given the order for the dogs to behave well and welcome their potential new owner, this was too good of a performance, wasn’t it?

Were they that eager to abandon him?

Feeling sour inside, he now had no choice but to clap his hands to draw attention.

“Sit down!”

A brief pause settled over the group of dogs.

Afterward, the dogs, albeit reluctantly, pulled back their heads and obediently sat down on the grass. However, their eyes still clung to Song Tan, wet and pitiful, which was heartbreaking!

Only then did Song Tan manage to stand up—there was a distinct doggy smell!

As they all crowded around, she was surrounded by doggy breath, causing the handful of scattered Spiritual Energy in her hand to be completely dispelled before they finally stopped…

She couldn’t keep up, couldn’t keep up.

It was then that Sun Shouping sighed, “Now I believe that animals have liked you since you were young.”

“Come on, pick any you want, how many would you like?”

How should she choose? It was difficult to pick any of them.

Song Tan looked over, troubled, “Brother Sun, you haven’t told me the price yet?”

Sun Shouping smiled, “Yanping already told me about this—so, I’ll charge you the cost price, 3,000 yuan per dog.”

For a purebred dog, especially ones of such quality, 3,000 yuan really only covered the costs for their food and vaccines as they grew.

But Sun Shouping wasn’t someone who would let his brother-in-law slash his prices without a good reason, so he had conditions:

“They are all prime-aged dogs, both male and female. To ensure their explosive power and vigorous energy, I haven’t sterilized them.”

“So you can take a dog for 3,000 yuan, but for future breeding, I hope you’ll pair them with dogs from my kennel. If it’s inconvenient for you, I can bring the dogs over.”

“When they have puppies, regardless of gender, I’ll claim the first year’s offspring. Later, if there are more puppies, I’ll come and collect them.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll charge according to the market rates.”

Song Tan let out a sigh of relief.

Well-trained dogs usually come with pedigrees, and a combination of pedigree and training brings a soaring price.

And she could only choose these adult dogs.

Although she had admired these dogs before, she had also been concerned about the prices.

Now at 3,000 yuan each, her financial burden was much lighter. She had originally set a baseline price for herself of 20,000 yuan, but now it looked like she had more than enough.

Of course, in Song Tan’s mind, as long as people could eat and drink well, money was just a worldly possession.

But in Wu Lan’s mind, she would probably end up on a tree branch…

What’s the use of cultivating Spiritual Energy? It still couldn’t withstand her old mother’s beatings!

“Alright!”

She agreed without hesitation.

But—

“Male dogs can breed a maximum of twice a year, and female dogs only have one litter a year. Moreover, they have to take a liking to the partner. Plus, if I decide to keep any puppies from the female dogs I select, they can’t be sold to you.”

“Fine!”

Sun Shouping became excited as well. After all, finding a good home for his dog sons was the most important thing.

After the more immediate issues were settled, Song Tan began to pick from the dozen or so dogs sitting obediently.

She didn’t have much experience in selecting dogs and didn’t bother to check their teeth or body structure; she simply cheated and used a little trick—

She wrapped an extremely tiny thread of Spiritual Energy around her fingertips and then moved them slightly.

In an instant!

Four dogs in the pack quickly turned their heads, their eyes staring intently in her direction.

Got it!

There was no need to pick anymore; irrespective of the dogs’ overall qualities, these were the ones most sensitive to Spiritual Energy. They would also be the quickest to adapt during the initial training period.

Song Tan began calling them out—

“That one with the yellow fur and black back.”

“The one with ears both sharp and high.”

“Also, that one with short ears and all black fur.”

“That yellow-furred, long-faced one.”

As she spoke, she pointed them out to Sun Shouping.

He froze for a moment and then chuckled bitterly—

“I can’t believe Zhang Yanping is my brother! Why wouldn’t he tell me the truth? You’ve got such a good eye for choosing dogs, picking out the ones with the best physique and trainability. And he told me you were a novice, asking me to give you more advice?”

Although the murmuring Sun Shouping himself was puzzled—because from what Song Tan said, she clearly couldn’t distinguish between the breeds of these dogs, she indeed appeared to be a novice!

In any case, she had chosen one of each of the four dog breeds he had introduced – and each one she pointed out was the leader.

Three males, one female.

But since the choice was made, he pointed out those few dogs to Song Tan, making sure she recognized them clearly.

“The yellow-furred, long-faced one is a Mastiff.”

“The yellow fur with a black back is a black-back German Shepherd, the female dog.”

“The short ears belong to Casro; actually, its ears aren’t short but hang down in large flaps, which can easily get bitten and bleed in a fight. So, they’re usually cropped short when they’re young.”

“And this one, this is our kennel’s most handsome Du Bin.”

The four dogs were vigorous and their eyes shone. When their cool, damp noses gently touched the back of Song Tan’s hand, she felt her heart as if it too had been brushed by a feather, soft and tender.

But although he chose the strongest leaders, Sun Shouping still felt compelled to offer advice:

“According to the rules of my kennel, if a male dog comes to mate, the owner can only take one puppy from the litter the female dogs have.”

“Although mixed-breed dogs have high quality too, most people still care about pedigree. You’ve picked four different breeds, which won’t be profitable if you bring them here to mate.”

“Instead, selecting two pairs of male and female dogs of the same breed, or all of the same breed, would be more profitable when I come to purchase the puppies based on their looks.”

Song Tan shook her head, “No, I’m not raising them for profit, so it really doesn’t matter about the breed.”

Since dogs can live for a good ten to twenty years, choosing dogs of the same breed might be troublesome if she ended up with puppies at home that she would have to sell. That would indeed be hard for her.

Even though Sun Shouping seemed to be someone who loved and cared about dogs, such matters were still a worry, no matter how you look at it.

“Let’s just go with these, they’re fine.”

She then chuckled again:

“I originally planned to get five dogs. But I only connected with these four this time, so I’ll start with them.”
