Help! the four Alpha's are obsessed with me.-Chapter 218 A trip to the past Xiii
Days passed by and Daniel turned into a shadow of himself. He didn’t talk, couldn’t eat well, and feared the dark more than anything. And more heartbreaking was that none of his family members came to his rescue.
The only thing his mother, Celeste, could do was hire a private tutor, and she did that secretly while also bringing food to him, but to actually help stop the constant beating and nightmares, she was utterly useless in that aspect.
It was at that time Daniel realized that truly, you’re alone in the world and no one was coming to save you. Even God Himself couldn’t save him from his fear, so who then can?
He didn’t even remember Xylander again or anything about the theater accident, no clue of what actually went on there that caused his condition at that moment. All he could see was blank space.
As usual, when the dark corner was opened by 12pm in the afternoon, Daniel crawled out, his blond hair scattered and all over the place. His lips were dried, his colour fading, and he was coughing, weak and exhausted from constantly staying in that dark corner.
"My son, I wished I could do something."
Celeste’s words felt like a jab to him as Daniel nearly choked on the comment.
To say he felt irritated was an understatement. How could she still try to make him feel better when she watched her son get beaten almost to death and didn’t do anything? She just stared, and now was she expecting him to just smile at her?
"No need mom, you tried your best. You probably got your hands so tied that to say a thing, you couldn’t."
Daniel started outright shutting Celeste down immediately because what Daniel said was true.
Her mouth wasn’t tied. She just chose to keep silent and let him suffer all alone. Celeste wanted to cuddle him and feel his warmth as his mother and apologize, but Daniel just walked away without looking back at her, and from that moment Celeste began to see that she was losing him.
Daniel no longer acknowledged her or any of them. The only thing he did constantly was go straight to the library and read. These days he found solace in books and realized that he loved novels so much.
It was from there he began to admire those who had true companions and friendship because he never saw those things for himself. Even the siblings he had refused to speak to him from the fear that they would be locked up too.
Angelo never walked around when he was awake, nor did his sister Lily. They all gave him that physical barrier and restriction like he was some kind of plague. Daniel cried while reading the book.
He raked a hand through his hair, dragging several strands like he wanted them out. His childhood was a ruin. None of the experiences other kids had were given to him because of his music talent.
Daniel didn’t even remember he had those talents, but his mother kept saying he sings and she doesn’t know why he stopped all of a sudden. Sometimes she asked what happened back at the music palace, why he changed so much after that.
Disappointed by the question, Daniel refused to talk about it. He couldn’t exactly explain what he didn’t understand.
Still engrossed in his book, Daniel kept reading until he got to the part where the female lead met her betrothed and they both fell in love.
He gave a lost look reading how she felt, how he changed her thinking about society and men in general, that not all were evil, and Daniel was left with that thought.
Was there really something out there for him? Were there kind men out there? Could he meet someone who loves him and doesn’t hate him because of how he looks?
Could he?
He was still thinking when he felt a tap from behind which made him jump up in fright, and he tried bolting away when the hand held him tight.
"Oh, don’t be afraid. I am a new worker here. I just normally see you crying and all alone, and I decided to ask... is anything wrong?" the young man asked, and Daniel looked up and met his eyes.
He saw it was dark ember eyes that shimmered right where he stood. With his long raven hair flowing right to his temples, Daniel was struck in that moment.
When he saw how calm Daniel was now, no longer jumpy, he waved at him.
"I’m sorry for scaring you. I just got so curious about you that I couldn’t hide my fascination anymore. Are you a member of this household?" he questioned, and Daniel blinked, coming to terms that he probably hadn’t seen him with the family around.
And when Daniel came out, it was usually during the night time and late afternoon, so today he was kind of lost in the book and didn’t know when time had elapsed. And if his father was to catch him discussing with anyone from the household that wasn’t the tutor, he would be badly disciplined.
"Hmm, that’s something private, sorry. I can’t just tell that to anyone."
He ended the talk and wanted to go, but the young man still held his hand, their fingers intertwining together.
"My eyes have been on you for so long, Daniel... isn’t it?" he revealed, and Daniel became too stunned to speak.
What the hell??
He was sure he didn’t exist anywhere in this house again, so how did he know about his name?
"This is not right. If I get caught, you and I will be in serious trouble, please," Daniel begged, and finally the young man let his hand go and whispered.
"My name is Calloun. I’m new here, and I have been hearing whispers about you from the young master and miss, then I realized that I must have seen you somewhere. It was only last two weeks I found out that truly you were the one being discussed."
Calloun explained and Daniel’s jaw dropped.
Last week? He had been watching him for that long and he had no clue about it. Like how did it even change to this?
"Okay, even though I appreciate you... I am a freak and I am bad luck. I don’t want to taint you, Calloun, so let’s just go separate ways."
Daniel was still determined to leave.
It hurt him too because for years this was the only human talk he had ever gotten, aside from his mother and the tutor who behaved more like a robot than an actual human. But this guy was actually breaking actual rules just to talk with him.
Talk of forbidden romances... this sounds like one.
And he looks like a princess in rescue—fuck!!
Why was he sounding so delusional and dumb like this? This wasn’t him.
"You’re not a freak. I love watching you because you are so different and interesting, and the way you react to the books you read just makes me want to cry that I couldn’t just interrupt. Please don’t go."
Calloun tried to make him stay, and Daniel gave in... but not today.
He couldn’t stay back because his father would soon return and he couldn’t be seen around him.
"Tomorrow let’s have this conversation. Don’t worry, I won’t miss it for anything."
He assured him because he saw how unhappy Calloun was with letting him go.
Then slowly they separated, and Daniel found himself in the dark corner again, alone and shivering. But when he was drenched with fear and panic, he closed his eyes and imagined a new pair of ember eyes.
The only one that didn’t judge him or hate him.
And he smiled...
Years had been passing, and tomorrow would be his birthday.
He was turning sixteen, but too bad no one knew about it except him all alone.
But he wasn’t the only one with that knowledge.
Somehow, Calloun got hold of the book Daniel was reading and saw the sketch Daniel had written with sad emojis:
happy plus one to me tomorrow...
Calloun had mixed feelings about it. He pocketed the paper and returned the book to the shelf while cleaning.
Daniel was turning sixteen...
And he planned on making that his happiest day ever.
