Chapter 91: Noah’s public appearance (3)

Mark could remember how shocked he had been at the unexpected announcement.

The son he had never placed his expectations on took the position he had been vying for a long time.

Had his son suddenly become greedy? His niece wasn’t vigilant against his son like she had been with his family? Matt had series of questions in his heart back then, and immediately rushed to meet up with the shareholders who supported him.

He recalled their meeting to uncover the reason behind his son’s sudden rise to the position, only to discover that the President of Kratos Corporation had played a role as a major shareholder in the unexpected decision.

More to his surprise, his niece had vouched deeply for his son to take on the position as the President of the Kingston corporation, albeit temporarily, until she could prove herself capable of claiming the position.

Mark vividly remembered the frustration that had consumed him, as well as the confusion. His younger brother’s death should have paved the way for him to claim the highest position in the Kingston Corporation.

Yet everything had begun spiraling out of his control right from the onset. His niece had acted out his expectations, and his son had emerged seemingly out of nowhere to disrupt his plans.

Back then, his niece had not been close to his son compared to her strong bond with his daughter. The sudden alliance between them had certainly raised Matt’s suspicions, but he chose to set them aside temporarily, focusing instead on keeping his son under his control.

Although everything became infuriating when his niece had started to act out, Mark had known that if he kept his son under his control, taking the president’s position or at least manipulating the affairs of the Kingston corporation through him, would have been far much easier.

His son had never studied business management and administration, so Mark believed the latter would be grateful to him for stepping up.

But, he had not anticipated his son to have grown a heart of stone against them.

When his attempts to sway his son failed, Mark had immediately turned to his wife, urging her to try in his place instead. He believed that the bond between a mother and her child was unshakable and that she might succeed with their son.

However, the outcome had been no different. His wife had returned home, looking so defeated and listless.

The situation had taken a sharp turn when his son had gone far as to threaten him with secrets that had been kept hidden from his wife. When that moment came, Mark quickly panicked, abandoning his attempts to visit the Kingston mansion and control him altogether.

The incident made Mark realize that he might have never known his son.

Now here he was, staring at the same son, looking much different from that time. The suspicions that he had pushed aside bounced back with full force.

His son, who had always focused solely on restoring health, unexpectedly became the guardian of his niece and nephew. While others might interpret this as an act of kindness or pity, Mark believed there was more to his son’s actions.

After all, his niece and Noah had never been close, not in the slightest. And with the Kingston corporation deeply entangled in the guardianship, there was little room for sentiments concerning the children.

The only force that could have pulled his niece and son into an alliance was his son’s illness. Nothing else could justify what would have brought the two together.

’’....I had done nothing much, Eldest master.’’ The alienation Noah had referred his mother was the same for his father.

The indifference to his parents was very clear that anyone could tell there were not in a good relationship as parents and child.

’’Ayana has always been disciplined and strict with herself.’’ He continued. ’’Sometimes, I am helpless against her independence because she’s not your average young lady. As for Jason, I guess I am the doting one amongst the two of us when it comes to him.’’

The warmth in his voice when speaking about his cousins was unmistakable, a stark contrast to the cold indifference he displayed toward his own family.

Although Noah might be unaware, but Mark and Lucinda could see out rightly how his eyes had softened when speaking of his cousins and the small tug on the corner of his lips.

It was blatantly obvious where his affection lay among the two families.

Lucinda’s heart ached at the sight. She couldn’t take more of her son’s indifference towards her and the affection he held for his cousins. On the other hand, Mark had no reactions and carried on the conversation.

’’I’m glad to hear that.’’ He shifted his gaze to his quiet niece with a faint smile. ’’I do remember how you’ve always been strong in the past. Your father would be very proud to hear of his daughter’s resilience and your astounding achievements because of that.’’

He acted like a proud uncle that one would not tell that he deeply hated this so-called independence of his niece. Her stubbornness had certainly caused him a lot over the years.

’’How is my dear nephew, Jason?’’ Mark’s gaze flickered slightly as he thought of his young nephew. ’’Why didn’t you bring him with you?’’

If he recalled properly, his nephew should be going to middle school soon. It was mentioned that his niece would give him positon, as president when he becomes of age after good training at the corporation.

Just like she and Noah had done.

’’Jason’s doing well, thank you for asking uncle.’’ This time, Ayana was the one who spoke up and her curt reply was deliberate. There was no mention of when Jason would begin attending banquets and other social gatherings.

’’I see.’’ Mark didn’t push more for answers and ended the topic of his nephew right there.

He returned his gaze back to his son. ’’Then I hope you enjoy the birthday banquet your sister has prepared for your mother, son.’’

His niece had always seemed very vigilant when his nephew was mentioned. It wasn’t beneficial to poke his nose in their business too much.

But...

’...Should I try my luck with him, though?’ Mark had always wondered about his nephew from time to time, but had never acted upon his thoughts. First of, his niece seemed to have her eyes on him...very closely.

The spies he had previously had in the Kingston mansion had gradually disappeared until he realized that he received no reports on the children anymore.

But from the old reports, the relationship between his niece and nephew was very good. Even the reports had spoken of the close relationship between his son and the children.

As for the relationship between his niece and nephew, Mark wondered if that might as well be an act since his spies had undoubtedly been fired from their jobs in the Kingston mansion.

That alone had told him his niece might be very aware of him....and his past actions. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

This was not very good for him, and all the more reason to have her out of the Kingston corporation.

’’We won’t be staying long, but thank you, Elder master.’’ With that, Noah and Ayana intended to leave the banquet hall, but another voice reached out to them.

’’You haven’t said hello to Liam, first young master.’’

Lilian, Madam Hitson’s daughter, stepped forward and stood beside her surprised mother.

’’Even if he’s merely an adopted son of the Kingston family, he’s still your younger brother recognized by law.’’ She reproached Noah with a fierce glare. ’’And yet you dismissed his presence like he’s not worth to anything in your eyes.’’

She turned sharply to Ayana. ’’The same goes for President Kingston.’’
