Heiress' Househusband is a Secret Billionaire-Chapter 349: The Hidden Cooperation
Chapter 349: The Hidden Cooperation
As planned, Ruediger immediately called Felicia the next morning. He just had breakfast with Lariette.
When the sky in Velondia was still dark as the sun rose slowly, Norvonna’s sky was already bright. His aunt was most likely at her office at this time.
The clock ticked softly in the home office. While Ruediger locked himself there, Lariette was busy getting ready for work. She knew he was there to have a private conversation with Felicia.
Sitting on the office chair, Ruediger put the phone by his ear, talking to Felicia. Despite bringing up the Alvords’ dirty trick, his voice remained steady.
"Aunt, I thought you’d tell her about it. She called me crying last night."
Ruediger began by mentioning Madeline’s frantic phone call. He heard Felicia chuckle softly, the sound traveling from the end of the line.
"Maddie secretly asked her grandparents after I refused to tell her. I didn’t want to worry her much. I didn’t expect she’d call you instead, Rudy. Your aunt is sorry."
Ruediger lightly shook his head even though Felicia couldn’t see him. As he spoke, he lowered his voice.
"It’s nothing. Maddie has calmed down, somewhat. I told her I’d help you to handle this. So, any new moves from that side?"
Felicia handled her elderly father’s import and export business. Even though its size was far smaller than the Alvord Corporation, she still profited greatly from it, allowing her to live comfortably even after divorcing Martin Alvord.
Two weeks ago, problems began sprouting one by one, but nothing Felicia couldn’t handle. Then, they grew bigger, affecting the business as a whole.
Felicia learned someone played a dirty trick by messing with her chain of supplies and some long-time clients. As she was preoccupied with uncovering the mastermind, Ruediger suddenly called her.
"Aunt, Vincent and the Chairman are desperate for my help. Is there anything happening recently? If not, I suspect they might target you soon."
Ruediger explained the details to Felicia, then she brought up the current trouble she was facing. As expected, Matthew was behind it.
From that moment on, Felicia cooperated with Ruediger. While minimizing the damage as much as possible, she pretended not to know her former brother-in-law was the mastermind.
Until Matthew contacted her a few days ago. He coerced Felicia to force Ruediger to cooperate with him in getting Nathaniel Faulkner’s assistance.
"Rudy," Felicia’s voice echoed again from the end of the line, "He called me again yesterday. Then..."
Ruediger quietly listened to Felicia as she recounted the event. Matthew did not only contact her again but also displayed the severity of the situation by involving some of her clients.
They pressured Felicia to solve the problems with the supply chains as soon as possible, including some other outrageous demands.
Once Felicia was done, there was a long silence from Ruediger’s side. His brows wrinkled slightly as he frowned, thinking how despicable the man he shared blood with was.
Exhaling a sigh, Ruediger said, "Aunt, I’ll go there. It’s better than just hearing your reports from here. I’ll give you the details later."
"Sure. I’ll keep the room ready for you," Felicia hummed, pleased to know she would meet her nephew soon. Then, she added teasingly, "But doesn’t this mean you need to be apart from Lari? Will you be okay?"
Ruediger laughed awkwardly, never expecting Felicia to tease him about leaving Lariette’s side for a few days. If his aunt was right before him, he knew a bright grin was lighting up her face.
"I plan to bring her there one day, Aunt," Ruediger said, his voice lacing with traces of laughter, "She wanna see where I lived before. Maybe we’ll go there during her winter break."
Ruediger couldn’t wait for winter to arrive. He and Lariette had several plans in mind, from celebrating Christmas in Moonville to visiting his mother’s grave and also flying to Norvonna.
Hopefully, everything would go smoothly.
"I haven’t seen her in ages. That’s a good idea," Felicia hummed, pleased to hear Ruediger’s plan, "Send my regards to Lari. We can talk more about your winter visit later."
"Yes, Aunt. I’ll call you again."
After Felicia hung up, Ruediger slowly rose to his feet. When he first informed his aunt about what the Alvords might do, he knew he had to go to Norvonna for a few days.
But... until now he couldn’t really prepare himself.
’It’s only for a few days. Don’t be that worried.’
Ruediger silently reprimanded himself for being reluctant to stay apart from Lariette even for a short time. Still, he had to handle this himself, not just by sending his people to his aunt.
Nathaniel was already aware Matthew trying to pressure Felicia to force Ruediger to do his bidding. Despite his displeasure, he let his friend handle this issue while he stood as a backup.
’I better tell her quick.’
Exhaling another sigh, Ruediger left the home office, his feet brought him to Lariette’s bedroom. He found her in the walk-in wardrobe, wearing a trench coat over her work outfit.
The days grew colder, forcing Lariette to bundle in layers. The heating system at the school was moderate, thus everyone was advised to stay warm at all times.
Due to the seasons’ transition, some students were prone to get sick. The adults also had to be careful with the cold.
"Lettie."
Lariette lifted her chin up, her eyes twinkling at the sight of Ruediger approaching. She asked, "How was your talk with Aunt Felicia?"
Lariette still recalled how upset Madeline had been last night. The situation seemed to be more urgent than she expected based on how Ruediger acted.
"About that... there’s something I have to tell you."
Lariette blinked, noticing the slight hesitation on Ruediger’s face. Her eyes remained on his as he pulled her closer, gently hugging her waist. She waited until he finally talked again.
When his next words finally rang in the walk-in wardrobe, she was startled slightly.
"I need to go to Norvonna. It might take a few days."
