Heavens' Laughter-Chapter 125: Clean Up
Using Shadow Step, Feng Shen reappeared directly behind.
Yuan Bo paused, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath. He hadn’t even noticed the sudden arrival behind him until a voice, low and chilling, whispered directly into his ear.
"You dropped something." Feng Shen gestured toward the discarded sword lying far behind them.
A shiver went down Yuan Bo’s spine. His breath hitched, and he turned his head slowly, dread etched across his sweat-soaked face.
There, standing mere inches away, was that anomaly.
Yuan Bo’s body froze, paralyzed by the overwhelming dark qi radiating. His instincts screamed at him to run, but his legs refused to move.
Before he could even form a coherent thought…
With a flick of his hand, dark Qi coiled around Feng Shen like a serpent before lashing out with deadly precision.
The energy sliced cleanly through Yuan Bo’s neck, severing his head in an instant.
The decapitated head hit the ground with a dull thud, rolling a short distance before coming to rest, the lifeless eyes staring blankly ahead.
Blood pooled quickly around the body as it crumpled to the ground.
Feng Shen tilted his head, examining his handiwork with casual indifference. He wiped his hands together as if brushing off invisible dirt.
"Alright, that’s done~," he said with a singsong tone, his voice laced with amusement.
Feng Shen turned his gaze toward the sky, his smirk widening:
"Now then, I suppose it won’t be long before reinforcements from all sides come to hunt me down. Oh, this is going to be fun!"
With that, Feng Shen used Shadow Step once more, vanishing in a blur of darkness.
When he reappeared, he stood at the heart of the ruined city.
Feng Shen looked around at the devastation. "A masterpiece," he mused.
He began to walk, humming a faint tune under his breath. His eyes scanned the rubble for any signs of life.
The devastation he’d left behind was absolute, and any survivors would need more than luck — they’d need a miracle to have endured such an ordeal.
"Hmm?" Suddenly, Feng Shen’s eyes fell upon a small group of men and women moving through the wreckage.
They had a handful of small beasts with them, sniffing through the ruins for trapped survivors.
"Is there anybody out there?" one of them called.
"Do not worry, we’re here to help!" another shouted.
"Keep searching!" a third urged.
Feng Shen watched this, his lips curving into a smile as a wicked thought took root in his mind.
With a theatrical flourish, he slumped his shoulders, changed his posture, and contorted his expression into one of feigned despair.
"Help me! Oh, my heavens!" Feng Shen cried out, his voice trembling with mock desperation as he staggered toward them:
"Are you the rescuers? Thank the heavens! I thought I was doomed!"
The group froze momentarily before rushing toward him. Their faces were a mix of concern and relief as they reached his side.
"Are you alright?" one asked, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"Don’t worry, we’ve got healers just a little ways from here!" another reassured him.
Feng Shen let out a weak, trembling sigh, his lips curling into a faint, pitiful smile. "Oh, thank you… thank you so much…"
For a moment, hope flickered in the rescuers’ eyes. After all, they found a survivor! There could be more!
Then, faster than any of them could react…
Dark Qi flared around Feng Shen in a swift, deadly arc, and before they could even register what had happened, their heads were severed cleanly from their bodies.
Blood sprayed into the air as the lifeless corpses crumpled to the ground, joining the rubble and ash.

Feng Shen stood amidst the carnage. He brushed a speck of blood off his sleeve and chuckled softly to himself:
"Such kindness… wasted on fools," he muttered, shaking his head in mock pity.
Feng Shen glanced down at the beasts, who growled and bristled. He crouched slightly:
"Don’t worry, little ones. Your turn is next."
The beasts, overwhelmed by the suffocating killing intent radiating from Feng Shen, ceased their growling and snarling.
Their fierce postures crumbled, replaced with trembling submission. Small, pitiful whines escaped their throats as they bowed their heads low to the ground.
Feng Shen, however, remained indifferent. Without a word or a glance, he strode past them, and as he did, a whisper of Dark Qi followed in his wake.
One by one, the beasts’ heads fell from their bodies, the air filled with the dull thuds of lifeless forms collapsing into the dust.
Feng Shen’s gaze shifted, locking onto a trembling figure nearby — a little girl sitting on the ground, her tiny hands clutching the dirt as tears streamed down her pale cheeks.

She bit her lip, desperate to suppress the sobs threatening to escape her throat. Her wide, terrified eyes looked up at him, filled with a desperate, unspoken plea for mercy.
"Well, hello there, little one~," Feng Shen drawled. He came to a stop in front of her.
The girl remained frozen, unable to respond, her lips trembling as fresh tears continued to spill.
Feng Shen tilted his head, a mock expression of patience crossing his face. "Cat got your tongue? That’s alright."
He crouched slightly to meet her eye level. "I kept you alive for a reason. Lead me to the rest of your group. Show me where everyone is. I don’t have time to run around playing hide-and-seek."
Feng Shen extended a hand toward her. "Go on, take it. Don’t be afraid. I won’t hurt you."
The little girl hesitated, her small body trembling as she stared at his outstretched hand. Internally, she prayed — begged —for the heavens to intervene, for someone, anyone, to save her.
But no one came.
With a gulp and a shuddering breath, the little girl slowly reached out, placing her tiny hand in his.
As Feng Shen pulled her to her feet, the girl avoided his gaze, her tears flowing even more freely now.
"I-I know where they are…" she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. She gulped again, her hands trembling as she clutched them to her chest. "Follow me…"
Feng Shen’s smirk widened, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction as he straightened up. "Good girl. Lead the way."
The little girl began walking, her steps hesitant and slow.
Feng Shen followed close behind, his presence looming over her like a shadow, his calm, humming tune once again leaving his lips.
After a short walk, weaving through rubble and debris, the little girl came to an abrupt stop. Her small, shaking finger pointed ahead as her voice cracked with suppressed sobs. "There’s… there’s a group just around this corner," she stammered:
"A-and another group a little farther away… they’re trying to clean up… hoping for the army to come…"
Feng Shen moved to her side. Slowly, he reached out, his touch unnervingly gentle as he wiped away her tears with his thumb.
"Good girl," he said softly. "Keep this up, and you might just live to see another day."
A chuckle escaped Feng Shen’s lips as he stepped forward. "Now, be good and stay put. I’ll be right back."
Without another glance, he turned the corner, leaving the little girl standing alone.
Moments later, the air erupted with screams and cries — shrieks of terror and agony echoing.
The little girl’s knees buckled as she collapsed to the ground, her hands flying to her ears in a desperate attempt to block out the haunting sounds.
Tears poured down her face as guilt clawed at her chest, a crushing realization dawning on her: she had led those people to their deaths.
Then, the screams stopped.
Heavy footsteps approached, and Feng Shen emerged from around the corner. His figure was painted in blood, his clothes soaked in crimson.
In each hand, he held a decapitated head — two young girls, their lifeless eyes staring blankly.
Feng Shen stopped in front of the little girl, who remained trembling on the ground. "Open your eyes," he commanded, his voice calm but ice-cold:
"See how lucky you are."
The little girl hesitated, her entire body quaking. She wanted to refuse, to curl into herself and block out the world, but she knew she had no choice.
Slowly, she opened her eyes, her breath catching in her throat as she gasped.
At the little girl’s feet lay the severed heads.
Feng Shen chuckled, tossing the heads closer to her with a casual flick of his wrists. "Remember this," he said, his tone sharp with warning:
"This is what happens if you misbehave."
Without waiting for a reply, Feng Shen turned and walked away, his laughter fading into the distance. "Alright~ I’ll be right back. Stay put."
The little girl could only sit there, trembling, tears streaming down her face, as the weight of what had just happened crushed her:
"I want my mommy…" the little girl whimpered, her voice barely audible. Her trembling hands moved to her tear-streaked face, messily rubbing at her cheeks in a futile attempt to wipe them dry.
Her fingers trembled as they brushed over her reddened eyes, which burned from the constant flow of tears.
The little girl choked out, curling her arms around herself:
"I want to go home…"
