Heavens' Laughter-Chapter 121: Dark
The deafening Dragon Roars shattered the air, breaking through every layer of their defenses with relentless force.
Both the Ancestor and Phoenix were struck, their forms blasted backward as if they were weightless rag dolls.
They collided with the ground with bone-jarring impacts, their bodies bouncing and skidding across the scorched earth before coming to a halt some distance away.
Blood spewed from their mouths, the crimson streaks painting the ground as they struggled to rise.
Thick rivulets of blood dripped from their eyes.
Despite the obvious signs of internal damage, their bodies remained perfectly fine, their flesh showing no outward signs of the devastation they had endured.
"You sneaky little bastard…" The Ancestor groaned, a guttural sound. "How dare you attack in such a way!"
All the while, the Phoenix coughed violently, spitting blood.
Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Feng Shen frowned, clearly displeased.
"Tch. Damn it. I guess Dragon’s Roar is useless if I want to damage your physical bodies... Oh well," he muttered, his tone shifting as a sly smile spread across his face.
Feng Shen wasn’t the least bit concerned. After all, learning a higher-level technique was nothing more than a minor inconvenience for someone like him.
With the Heavenly Immortal Juggernaut Physique, his body was a masterpiece of divine engineering.
It not only allowed Feng Shen to endure beyond his limits, but also compensated for the flaws of his current low cultivation realm.
Stretching his fingers, he let out a small sigh. "No need to rush," he mused, his gaze sharp and calculating:
"Breaking through their defenses is just a matter of time."
A small vein throbbed on the Ancestor’s forehead, his clenched fists trembling with suppressed fury. Slowly, deliberately, he loosened his grip:
"So, you dare to ignore me? Interesting~ It’s been so long since anyone has had the audacity to show me such disrespect!"
The Ancestor’s grin widened into something wild and unhinged as the flames around him erupted with renewed ferocity.
No longer the ethereal blue of his earlier displays, the fire was now a searing crimson.
The ground beneath the Ancestor blackened and cracked as his Qi was now being forced out.
With a casual swipe of his hand, he wiped the blood from his mouth, his eyes glinting with murderous intent.
"It seems," the Ancestor growled, his voice deep, "it will be very pleasing to kill you."
Feng Shen couldn’t suppress a small chuckle, which quickly grew into a hearty laugh. "Wow~ what an honor!" he exclaimed, his tone dripping with mockery:
"You’re actually burning your life energy just to squeeze out more Qi! Do you even realize how dumb that is?"
Feng Shen clutched his stomach as his laughter deepened, tears nearly forming in the corners of his eyes.
"Oh, this is rich!" he said between gasps, his voice shaking with amusement:
"I never thought I’d see an older cultivator — someone as ’wise’ and ’experienced’ as you — stoop to something so reckless. Burning life energy! Priceless, irreplaceable life energy!"
Feng Shen straightened slightly, wiping a tear from his eye. "You’ve practically thrown away your immortality. Is my life really worth all that? You flatter me! But you… you are hilarious."
He stepped forward, as he pointed casually at the old man, as though addressing a joke at his expense:
"You’re like a tragic comedian, giving your all for one last grand performance. I wonder — will the applause be worth it when the curtain falls?"
"SILENCE!" the Ancestor roared, his voice booming. His face, now a furious shade of crimson, was riddled with bulging veins.
His rage reached a boiling point as he forced even more Qi from his body, recklessly burning through even more life energy.
"As long as I kill you," the Ancestor bellowed, his voice cracking with both anger and desperation:
"I don’t care about immortality! You’ve taken my Empire — my Empire — the one I spent my youth building, brick by brick, with my own hands!"
With a savage cry, the Ancestor hurled himself forward, his sheer force shattering the ground beneath him.
The earth split in a jagged line as his feet propelled himself. His entire body erupted into a blazing inferno, the flames consuming him entirely until no flesh remained visible.
Rubbing his forehead, Feng Shen shook his head. "What a fool…" he muttered under his breath, his tone low but laced with disdain:
"To cling so desperately to accomplishments in a lower realm... truly pathetic."
As Feng Shen’s words trailed off, he suddenly felt the surge of blistering heat bearing down on him.
Without missing a beat, he used Shadow Step, his body flickering out of existence, just as the roaring flames consumed the area where he had been standing.
The inferno erupted with ferocity.
Feng Shen reappeared in an instant, standing exactly where the Ancestor had been moments before.
"It seems you’ve lost your touch…" His expression was calm, almost bored, as his gaze settled on the raging flames.
The fire was grotesquely vivid, its features twisting into a smile. Its eyes, glowing an unnatural and piercing blue, stared back at the young man.
Feng Shen tilted his head, his lips curling into a faint smirk as he crossed his arms.
"How funny. You’ve even given your flames a face. Is this your way of making sure I remember you? Or is this all you have left to offer?"
Not responding anymore. With a sudden, explosive burst, the Ancestor propelled himself forward once more.
This time, his flames surged with an intensity that dwarfed even his previous attack.
The inferno consuming his form expanded wildly, its size growing unchecked.
The very air seemed to warp and shimmer under the unbearable heat.
The sky above began to take on a deep crimson hue, the reflection of the raging flames painting the clouds with ominous streaks of red.

Trees burst into flames, rocks glowed red-hot.
As the roaring flames drew closer, Feng Shen’s calm demeanor didn’t falter. He cast a fleeting glance at the Phoenix, his lips curling into a sly smirk.
With impeccable timing, he used Shadow Step once again, vanishing just as the inferno reached him.
In an instant, Feng Shen reappeared behind the Phoenix, which was still struggling to recover.
The creature was in dire straits, its body visibly weakened from the massive loss of blood. Its Qi reserves were entirely depleted, leaving it vulnerable and barely clinging to life.
This time, however, the Ancestor wasn’t so easily outmaneuvered.
His rage-fueled form surged forward, relentless in its pursuit, oblivious to such a sudden disappearance.
The flames grew hotter, denser, and more suffocating as the Ancestor’s fiery body closed the distance without hesitation.
Before either the Phoenix or the Ancestor realized what had happened, the two collided in a devastating impact.
"WHAT!?"
The Ancestor’s fiery assault slammed into the weakened Phoenix, who took the full brunt of the blow.
"SCREECH!?"
The Phoenix let out a blood-curdling screech, its cry echoing. Its feathers ignited under the intense flames, and its body convulsed as it fought desperately to survive.
In a blind panic, it unleashed its own flames, its body burning through what little life energy it had left. The sacred fire erupted.
It was then did the flames clash violently, intertwining in a chaotic storm of red and gold.

Feng Shen stood a safe distance away, watching the spectacle unfold.
"Perfect," he muttered to himself, his smirk growing wider. "Two fires, one flame."
Feng Shen clapped his hands together. "Not even a scratch on my handsome face~. I’m simply too perfect," he declared with a flourish, flashing his teeth.
Though Feng Shen didn’t stand around for too long as he lowered himself to the ground, sitting cross-legged.
"Now then," he muttered, his tone shifting to a more serious note, "since they’re so wonderfully distracted, this is the perfect opportunity."
Closing his eyes, Feng Shen focused inward, drawing on the vast well of knowledge from his past life. His breathing slowed, becoming measured and rhythmic, as he began to reconstruct one of his old techniques.
His mind raced, piecing together fragments of memories, adjusting the technique for his current body and Qi.
But despite Feng Shen’s focus, one eye cracked open ever so slightly, stealing a glance at the ongoing chaos.
The Ancestor and the Phoenix were still locked in a ferocious clash.
Neither showed signs of yielding.
"Perfect," Feng Shen whispered to himself. "Let them burn through even more of their life energy."
With that, he closed his eye again, diving deeper into his cultivation.
It wasn’t long before Feng Shen’s body shuddered, and dark ooze started seeping from his mouth, eyes, and ears.
The viscous substance dripped onto the ground, hissing as if it were alive, corroding the very soil it touched.
Feng Shen’s breath hitched, and he doubled over.
Blood, thick and dark, spilled from his lips in alarming amounts, pooling at his feet.
"Good… This is good…" Feng Shen said to himself. He clenched his teeth tightly, the veins on his neck and arms bulging with the strain.
His Qi, which had always glowed brightly, began to shift.
The light dimmed before darkening entirely. The Qi was cold, oppressive, and pitch black.
"Ah~ I’ve missed this deathly pain!" Feng Shen exhaled. The pain coursing through his body was sharp, agonizing:
"No more of that soft, delicate Qi. This... this is real power!"
