Chapter 85: Chapter 86: The Arrogant Han Tao!

A pair of enormous fists slammed the uniformed constable to the ground. Han Tao himself was sent crashing hard against the wall, letting out a wail as a bloody welt instantly swelled on his forehead.

The onlookers were instantly dumbfounded. What just happened? Wasn’t Han Tao supposed to be punching Qin Long? How did he end up hitting the constable, and why did Han Tao get that lump on his own forehead? Could this all be the work of that cripple, Qin Long...? But everyone had seen that Qin Long hadn’t made a move; he had merely twisted his body.

"I warned you," Qin Long said, his eyes frigid and detached. "You won’t get another chance."

"You bastard, you dare to dodge!" Han Tao roared, rubbing his backside as he scrambled up from the floor. "I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you!" he bellowed, pointing at the welt on his forehead. "Get him! Beat him to death!" With a wave of his hand, the seven or eight burly men behind him started to charge toward Qin Long.

"Mr. Han, don’t be impulsive!" the constable he had struck exclaimed, immediately giving him a meaningful look. "You can’t act recklessly in here."

This was the government constabulary; they absolutely couldn’t take things too far. But now that Qin Long was here, his life or death was in their hands. Since ancient times, what commoner dared to oppose the state? Especially a powerless nobody like Qin Long. With a single word, they could completely destroy his life.

Clutching his head, Han Tao slowly sat down to the side. "You cripple! Don’t even think about walking out of here alive!" he cursed, pointing venomously at Qin Long’s nose. Forget that Qin Long is a nobody. Even if he were the young master of some prominent family, I’d still finish him off today. My adopted daughter, Han Bing, has built up astonishing power and connections in Jiangzhong over the years. A single stomp of her foot is enough to make the entire city tremble. I just need to spend a little money, and I can have this Qin Long dealt with in minutes. I’m going to watch him die with my own two eyes.

"Hurry up with your questions. I still have to buy groceries for my fiancée," Qin Long said calmly, glancing at his phone.

"Haha..." Han Tao sneered, already imagining Qin Long’s miserable end. Rot in a cell, you brat! And you still want to see your fiancée? How dare he humiliate me like this? He really has no idea who he’s messing with!

"Alright, silence," the uniformed officer commanded. "Qin Long, I’ll ask you: where were you and what were you doing after ten o’clock last night?"

"The Icy Moon Bar," Qin Long answered without hesitation.

"What were you doing there?" the officer pressed, his face cold.

"Oh, I was in a bad mood. I just wanted to have a little drink," Qin Long replied, showing no trace of nervousness.

"You’re lying. The Icy Moon Bar wasn’t even open yesterday," the officer said, raising an eyebrow.

"Exactly. That’s why I turned around and headed home," Qin Long answered smoothly, completely at ease.

The officer frowned slightly, resting his chin on his hand as he scrutinized Qin Long. This Qin Long’s composure is incredible, far beyond what I expected.

"Han Bing was the owner of that bar, and she was murdered around that time." The officer’s eyes grew cold as he switched on a nearby camera. "That makes you the prime suspect. How do you prove your innocence?"

"There’s no need to prove it," Qin Long replied calmly.

"Watch your tone." The officer’s temper snapped as he grabbed Qin Long by the collar, brandishing a fist. "Kid, a dozen of Han Bing’s female bodyguards all said you killed her with your own hands! You’d better confess everything right now!"

Qin Long didn’t get angry; he just shrugged helplessly. "I’m a cripple, with barely enough strength to truss a chicken. Why don’t you try killing someone with a crutch and see how it goes?" he asked, looking at the officer with a helpless expression.

At his words, everyone was left speechless. Even the veteran interrogator was at a loss. Even if he wanted to force a confession out of Qin Long, the man was clearly a cripple. Anyone could see that! How could a man who needed a crutch just to walk possibly kill Han Bing while she was surrounded by so many skilled bodyguards? Who would ever believe such a story?

"Looking at you, you probably don’t have the ability to kill my daughter," Han Tao conceded. "But you dodged earlier! What about the bump on my head and this constable’s injuries? I don’t care. You must confess today," he declared without any reservation, pointing a finger at Qin Long’s nose with a sinister look.

"You’re framing me!" Qin Long exclaimed, deliberately letting a trace of nervousness show in his eyes. Let’s see what this Han Tao can really do.

"So what if I’m framing you?" Han Tao dropped all pretense, laughing with contempt. "You lame dog! You should consider it a blessing that I’d even bother to hit you, yet you dared to dodge? I can have you killed with a single word! No one in Jiangzhong dares to disrespect me, Han Tao, you lame dog!"

"My, who is this with such an arrogant tone? Does the Han family own this constabulary now?" A cold voice suddenly drifted in as a figure slowly appeared in the doorway.

"You’ve got sharp eyes. It might not have my surname, but if I want someone dead, they die," Han Tao laughed arrogantly from the side. "Killing a cripple like him is as easy as squashing an ant."

Meanwhile, all the uniformed personnel in the room snapped to attention, saluting the person at the door with respectful expressions.

"Director Jiang, what wind blew you here?" the middle-aged interrogator asked, bowing and scraping with an obsequious smile.

The newcomer was none other than Jiang Haijing. As a high-ranking official in the Jiangzhong government, Jiang Haijing was not their direct superior in this district, but they still had to show him deference.

Nearby, Han Tao frowned and shot Jiang Haijing a look of extreme displeasure.

"If I hadn’t come, I’m afraid certain people might have gotten their wish," Jiang Haijing said, glancing first at Qin Long before sweeping his gaze over the others in the room.

Han Tao knew who Jiang Haijing was, but he wasn’t the least bit afraid.

"He’s just talking out of anger..." the constable interjected, trying to smooth things over with a laugh. "Mr. Han is just speaking nonsense out of grief over his daughter’s murder..."

"It’s fine," Jiang Haijing said with a dismissive wave of his hand. "Young Master Qin and I are friends. His character is such that he would never do something like this; there must be more to this story. You all may continue. I’m just here to visit a friend." With that, Jiang Haijing plopped down in a nearby chair.

Everyone was shocked by his words. They had all assumed Qin Long was just some powerless nobody. To think that this nobody was actually friends with Jiang Haijing was truly astonishing. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Director Jiang, this..." The constable’s expression turned troubled. He shot a helpless glance toward Han Tao. With Jiang Haijing here, my plan to frame Qin Long is doomed to fail!

It was only then that Han Tao understood. Jiang Haijing is here to protect Qin Long!

"Director Jiang, I’d advise you to stay out of this. There are certain people involved who are beyond even your authority," Han Tao said, his face darkening as he stared at Jiang Haijing.

Jiang Haijing raised an eyebrow and retorted playfully, "If an outsider like you can point fingers and give orders in here, are you saying that I, a government official, don’t have the authority to supervise?"
