Chapter 125: Chapter 126: If it doesn’t work, I can walk as fast as I can!

"Oh, you’re truly my daughter. With a bit more practice, you’ll soon surpass me." Zhang Meilan took a bite, her expression immediately melting into one of pure enjoyment. This is a truly heavenly delicacy.

"Really?" Tang De immediately picked up a piece of fish. After eating it, he said bluntly, "Are you kidding? Your cooking isn’t even a tenth as good as our daughter’s."

"If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all!" Zhang Meilan’s face flushed, and she quickly took another bite.

"You’re both wrong. Qin Long made this. Isn’t it exceptionally delicious?"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Meilan immediately spat out the fish in her mouth. "How is that possible?" she asked, her face a mask of disbelief. She immediately switched to a spoon to have the soup instead. "I don’t feel like eating fish today." With a look of disdain, she took a sip.

"But that soup was also made by Qin Long, using the fish," Tang Xuewu said seriously, deliberately waiting until her mother had already drunk some.

Zhang Meilan spat it out again and reached for a small, yellow steamed bun.

"Qin Long made those little steamed buns, too," Tang Xuewu added, a triumphant smile spreading across her face.

Qin Long and Tang De watched the scene unfold with faint smiles of their own.

"Hmph!" Zhang Meilan tossed the yellow bun back into the basket. "What terrible cooking! Is there anything here that’s actually edible? I’d rather eat my own pickled vegetables than his food."

With that, she grabbed a bag of pickles and a flatbread and began to eat.

"Oh, what a shame. This delicious fish soup is made from sturgeon, you know!" Tang Xuewu sighed theatrically. "Some people are just destined to miss out on good food!" She took an exaggerated sip of the soup, then handed a small steamed bun to both Qin Long and Tang De.

Meanwhile, Zhang Meilan kept her head down, stubbornly gnawing on her flatbread and pickles.

"Mom, would you like a steamed bun? They’re wonderfully fragrant." Tang Xuewu deliberately picked up a milk-flavored bun, one of the special ones Qin Long had made. She then used it to pick up a piece of fatty pork and waved it in front of her mother’s nose. The tantalizing aroma instantly filled the air.

"That’s made with our family’s flour!" Zhang Meilan declared, snatching the bun and gobbling it down.

This is actually delicious!

After the meal, Qin Long offered to help clean up, but Tang Xuewu chided him.

"Qin Long, a true man should have his sights set on greater things," she said. "Even when you’re cooking, you must still harbor lofty ambitions."

Seeing Tang Xuewu’s dead-serious expression, Qin Long had no choice but to leave.

Tang Xuewu had been about to give Qin Long a massage for his right leg when her phone buzzed with a WeChat voice message. She picked it up and saw it was from her best friend.

"Xuewu, is Rourou coming back to Jiangzhong soon?" an excited voice chirped from the other end.

This was their best friend, someone with whom Tang Xuewu and Lin Yanrou shared everything.

"Really?" Tang Xuewu’s face lit up, and she excitedly rushed back to her room. "That’s wonderful news!"

"I have a secret to tell you, and you’re definitely going to be interested," the girl on the other end said, deliberately trying to build suspense.

"What is it?" Tang Xuewu asked, suddenly feeling a bit anxious.

"Rourou’s dream guy from over there! I have a video!" the girl said with a mischievous laugh.

Tang Xuewu was startled. "How do you have a video?"

In almost every phone call, Lin Yanrou would mention the peerless War Dragon. But she had never found out what he looked like. Tang Xuewu was curious herself. After all, what girl doesn’t like a hero? And what kind of man could make a girl as proud as Rou’er so utterly infatuated?

"That’s a secret," the friend on the other end laughed teasingly.

Tang Xuewu felt a pang of disappointment. For years, she had considered Lin Yanrou her best friend. But Lin Yanrou hadn’t shared the video with her, choosing to send it to someone else instead. To be honest, she had always believed she and Rou’er were the closest, but reality had just slapped her in the face. Still, she told herself she was probably being too sensitive.

"What kind of secret?" she pressed. "Stop keeping me in suspense! Send it to me! I’m dying of curiosity to see what kind of man has Rourou so captivated."

"Nope, nope, I won’t! Hee-hee! Let’s have dinner tomorrow. We can have a proper get-together, and I’ll let you see it for yourself. Besides, Xiaowu, it’s been ages since we all hung out," the girl on the other end laughed.

"You’re not trying to trick me into being your stand-in for a blind date again, are you?" Tang Xuewu pouted. "That’s what happened last time. Be honest, you don’t really have a video, do you?"

Lin Yanrou mentioned this War Dragon almost every time they spoke. From her words alone, it was clear he was an extraordinary and commanding man. But even though she was her best friend, Lin Yanrou was always intentionally vague about his details. How could someone so infatuated with a man just send a video of him to someone else?

"It’s true, I’m not lying! I already have the video of that dream guy, and Rourou herself confirmed it’s him. If I’m lying, I swear I’ll be single until I’m ninety!" the girl vowed solemnly.

"Haha! I was just joking. Why’d you take it so seriously? Great! I’m off tomorrow, so let’s definitely get together."

Tang Xuewu hung up the phone.

What kind of charm could that man possibly possess to make the incredibly proud Lin Yanrou so obsessed with him...? Tang Xuewu’s mind was filled with doubts, and she found herself growing more and more curious about this War Dragon from the army. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Afterward, Tang Xuewu took a bath and changed into a thin chiffon nightgown. She then walked slowly to Qin Long’s room as if by second nature.

She herself didn’t know why she had no reservations about Qin Long. Perhaps she was just used to being close to him. It wasn’t love; she didn’t feel any impulse to marry him and become his wife. Right now, their relationship could only be described as familial. After all, they had been inseparable for three years, sometimes even falling asleep in each other’s arms. Especially right after he woke up, he seemed terrified and couldn’t bear to be away from her, always needing her to coax him to sleep. A bond like that was as deep as family.

"Xuewu, what are you doing here?" Qin Long asked, snapping out of his thoughts as soon as he saw her.

"What, not happy to see me?" Tang Xuewu pouted, putting her hands on her hips.

"How could I not be? It’s just... I think Auntie Lan is right. I can take care of myself now," Qin Long explained.

"Pfft... You’re such a silly goose," Tang Xuewu sighed helplessly and began to massage his right leg. "Qin Long, when do you think you’ll recover?" she asked, a helpless look on her pretty face.

"I just need one more type of herb, and then I can recover," Qin Long replied, unable to give her a definite timeline.

"My mom actually found an expert in the country who is supposed to be very skilled," Tang Xuewu said as she continued the massage. "We’ll go see him when he gets to Jiangzhong."

"That won’t be necessary."

Qin Long himself was a master of the Golden Needle. If even he couldn’t solve his own problem, no one else in the world could.
