Heavenly Dragon Doctor Son-in-Law-Chapter 110 - 111: Eavesdropping Zhang Meilan!
She had handled everything herself—feeding him, cleaning up, and putting up with his idleness and outbursts. At first, she was clumsy, but her repeated attempts slowly built a proficiency that was heartbreaking to witness.
"Xuewu, I can take care of myself..."
Before Qin Long could react, Tang Xuewu bit her red lip and lifted him with both hands, using her body as a cushion. She slowly withdrew her left hand, gently lowering Qin Long onto the bed.
But at that moment, her foot slipped, and she stumbled to the side.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Qin Long wrapped his right arm around her and spun.
Tang Xuewu found herself pinned directly beneath him.
Their eyes met. Qin Long lay there, gazing down at the beauty beneath him. Her smooth skin was barely visible through her gossamer nightgown as they looked at each other in the moonlight.
The air quietly began to shift. In the stillness of the night, they silently stared at each other, their bodies pressed tightly together. They could each hear the other’s frantic heartbeat, as if something was slowly igniting within them.
One was virile and full of vigor; the other, tender and lovely. The feeling between them suddenly began to change.
Tang Xuewu’s mind went blank, and beads of sweat formed on her tense forehead. Even her breathing grew ragged.
Over the past three years, she and Qin Long had often been in close physical contact. They had never felt anything like this before, not even when they bathed together or when he helped her wash. That was because back then, Qin Long had been a complete fool! In her eyes, he had been like a little brother.
But now, he had recovered his memories. He was a vigorous, passionate man. Apart from his disabled right leg, he was in every other respect a vibrant, living man. With that realization, Tang Xuewu could no longer remain calm.
"Xuewu?" Qin Long finally said after a moment’s thought.
"You..." Tang Xuewu buried her head in embarrassment. Her lovely face turned crimson, beautiful and delicate, like a flower about to bloom on a rainy night.
Qin Long slowly wrapped his arm around her waist.
Tang Xuewu instantly tensed, her body trembling slightly, but she still didn’t reject him.
I always told myself that what I felt for Qin Long was pity. But now I realize that might have been a lie. Three years of constant companionship have allowed this man to slowly walk into my heart.
Besides, Qin Long had ended up like this fighting for his country. His features were resolute, and he had a true manly bearing. Apart from his disability, he was a nearly perfect man to marry.
Tang Xuewu had always dreamed of being a soldier’s wife. After all these years together, she had grown accustomed to this man. If it were anyone else, she would have slapped them away without a second thought. But being held by Qin Long like this, she felt not anger, but a thrill of excitement.
"Xuewu, sooner or later, I will get rid of these crutches for good," Qin Long said, looking at her with utmost sincerity. "When that day comes, will you marry me?"
"Okay..." Tang Xuewu blushed, her voice barely a whisper.
Qin Long’s face was almost touching hers. The warmth of her breath, fragrant and intoxicating, washed over him again. For a moment, he almost lost control and leaned in to kiss her.
Tang Xuewu’s hands clutched the bedsheets, her body trembling with nervousness. Then, she suddenly closed her beautiful eyes, sneakily kissed Qin Long on the cheek, and waited, as if expecting something.
"Xuewu, why did you kiss me?" Qin Long asked.
SNAP!
Tang Xuewu shoved him away, a hint of anger on her pretty face.
This man is completely clueless about romance! What an absolute idiot! I hate you! After I went that far, how could you...
"I’m tired. I want to sleep," she said, hopping up like a little rabbit and fleeing the room.
Qin Long was left staring blankly at the ceiling, completely dumbfounded. He never imagined that he, the mighty commander of the Heavenly Dragon Army and the undefeated War Dragon of the Great Xia, could be so clueless. He had spent his life on the front lines protecting his homeland, but he knew nothing about a young woman’s heart, let alone how to charm one.
Tang Xuewu stopped to smooth down her hair, glancing back at Qin Long with a puzzled expression. "A-Long, can your leg really recover?" she asked, cautiously pointing to his right leg.
"Of course!" Qin Long declared with absolute confidence.
"Don’t make me wait too long." Tang Xuewu lowered her pretty face, blushing furiously.
I’m willing to give Qin Long time, but Mom and Grandpa definitely won’t! The Tang Family is a large, traditional clan, heavily influenced by the older generation’s thinking. They would never allow me to marry a cripple.
Qin Long glanced at the bedside drawer where the pills were kept. After a moment, he looked at Tang Xuewu with resolve.
"I definitely won’t make you wait too long," he said softly.
"Alright..." Hearing this, Tang Xuewu slowly turned and left.
The moment she opened the door, a figure tumbled into the room. It was Zhang Meilan, who had been eavesdropping outside.
"What are you doing?" Tang Xuewu gasped, clearly upset.
"I just came out to take my medicine and accidentally slipped, and then..."
Xuewu must never find out that I’ve been eavesdropping, she thought frantically. How could I ever face her again if she knew?
Lying in bed, Qin Long had already pieced everything together. He had heard Zhang Meilan outside the door from the very beginning. She must have been standing there for at least half an hour.
With a look of displeasure, Tang Xuewu immediately helped Zhang Meilan to her feet and hurried her out of the room.
"Mom, how could you do that? Eavesdropping on our conversation?" Tang Xuewu stomped her foot in frustration.
"What do you mean, eavesdropping? I told you I accidentally fell, that’s all! Besides, so what if I was listening? You’re my daughter, my own flesh and blood! And another thing, even if Qin Long has a little money now, I will never let you marry him! You, you wretched girl, you need to show some restraint! A woman’s first time is very important." Zhang Meilan planted her hands on her hips and added coldly, "I’ve tended this flower for over twenty years, and I won’t have it planted in cow dung!"
Tang Xuewu could only manage a helpless, bitter smile. "What’s all this about flowers and cow dung?" she sighed.
"Don’t play dumb with me," Zhang Meilan snapped, glaring at her. "Just give up on this idea. Your grandfather and the entire Tang Family will never agree."
"Mom, what on earth is going on with you?" Tang Xuewu asked, confused. "You say one thing, then the next. Your attitude toward Qin Long has been much better lately. That’s why you haven’t kicked him out."
Zhang Meilan’s sudden change of heart made her suspicious. She couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to the story, or if someone was fanning the flames.
"Don’t overthink it. This has always been my stance, and it’s not up for debate," Zhang Meilan said curtly. "The fiftieth-anniversary celebration is coming up. You’d better cut this tangled mess cleanly and quickly."
With a huff, she turned and walked away.
Tang Xuewu’s eyes clouded with indecision. She glanced out the window, and an image of Qin Long appeared in her mind. She shook her head with a helpless sigh.
「The next day.」
Zhang Meilan found an excuse to keep Qin Long at home while Tang Xuewu drove to the company by herself. In the living room, Qin Long and Zhang Meilan sat opposite each other.
"Qin Long, you’re just a..."
