Chapter 103: Chapter 104: Old Master Tang Wakes Up

In the blink of an eye, fifty minutes had passed. Everyone gathered around the hospital room, waiting for the old man to wake up.

Tang Yuxiang and Tang Chuchu, scheming together, had dabbed some chili water near their eyes to force tears. Now was the perfect time to act! When their grandfather woke up and saw their swollen, tear-stained eyes, he would surely be incredibly gratified. Perhaps he would even give them a good project.

Qin Long knew that Old Master Tang would awaken in about an hour at the latest. Even with the power of his Nine Yang Golden Needle, the man was elderly and would naturally take longer to recover than others. Qin Long had planned to leave to find Zhao Ruoying; after all, he was incredibly eager to get the Snow Heart Grass. But when he thought about Tang Xuewu possibly being bullied, he immediately sent a message to postpone their meeting until the afternoon. Seeing Tang Xuewu’s beautiful face etched with extreme worry, Qin Long couldn’t help but shake his head.

About an hour later, Old Master Tang’s hand twitched, and his eyes slowly fluttered open.

"Grandfather! Grandfather, I knew Providence watches over good people! It’s me, Chuchu!"

"Grandfather, it’s Yuxiang! My sister and I have been kneeling here all day!"

Tang Chuchu and Tang Yuxiang discreetly dabbed on a little more chili water and began their performance. The other family members also crowded around, calling out to the old man with great concern, forcefully shoving Tang Xuewu and Zhang Meilan out of the way. Seeing that Old Master Tang was unharmed, the tense expressions on Tang De’s and Tang Xuewu’s faces finally began to relax.

By then, Old Master Tang was slowly regaining his senses. He tried to sit up, but Tang Chuchu and Tang Yuxiang immediately rushed to help him, propping a pillow behind his back with feigned concern.

"I thought I was going to die this time," Old Master Tang said, his voice raspy. Having brushed with death, he had become somewhat philosophical. "I never thought I would live to see another day."

"Grandfather, the heavens protect the virtuous."

"Chuchu and Yuxiang would bankrupt ourselves to save you!"

"If Jiangzhou’s doctors couldn’t help, we would have gone to the provincial capital. If not there, then to Yanjing, and if Yanjing failed, then we would have gone overseas!"

"In any case, I would trade twenty years of my own life to ensure your health and see you cured!" Tang Yuxiang proclaimed through his tears, clenching his fists for effect.

"Yuxiang, you truly are a good child. Grandfather hasn’t doted on you in vain," Old Master Tang said, immensely gratified. He gently stroked Tang Yuxiang’s head.

This grandson is the one I favor most—responsible, filial, and able to endure hardship. Although Tang Xuewu is the most capable in business, she has been cast out ever since she adopted Qin Long. Besides, she’ll get married and leave sooner or later. As the saying goes, a married daughter is like spilled water.

"Grandfather, how do you feel?" Tang Xuewu immediately stepped forward, her voice full of genuine concern.

At the sound of her voice, Old Master Tang’s face soured with displeasure. "I’m fine. I don’t need your concern. The only thing that makes me feel unwell is the fact that you adopted Qin Long. The day you kick that fool out and marry into a wealthy family is the day I’ll be guaranteed another ten years of life."

Old Master Tang made no effort to hide his feelings, dressing down Tang Xuewu with cold, harsh words.

"Don’t get so worked up," a calm voice said. It was Qin Long, leaning on his cane nearby.

The sight of Qin Long made the old man’s face contort with rage. "What are you doing here, you good-for-nothing? Are you disappointed that I’m not dead?"

Seeing their patriarch’s sudden eruption, the rest of the Tang family stared in confusion.

"Ever since you entered the Tang Family three years ago, our businesses have steadily declined. Qin Long, you are the real cancer of this family!" Old Master Tang seethed, hating him so much his teeth itched.

"Grandfather, you can’t say that about Qin Long!" Tang Xuewu tried to explain. "If it wasn’t for him this time, you might have..."

"If he gets out of the Tang Family right now," the old man interrupted sharply, "I could absolutely live to be a hundred! I just don’t understand, Xuewu! Why can’t you learn from Chuchu and Yuxiang and just be an obedient child for once?"

He berated her relentlessly, making no secret of his disgust for Qin Long. He had already promised to help Wang Ming. If Qin Long wasn’t driven away quickly, how could Wang Ming get close to Tang Xuewu? This obstacle had to be completely removed. Otherwise, it would be impossible to marry Tang Xuewu into a wealthy family and gain the Wang Family’s support.

"Grandfather, if it weren’t for Qin Long, you..."

Seeing Tang Xuewu still defending Qin Long, Old Master Tang’s expression turned frigid. "Enough! Stop talking! Take him and get out of my sight!" he ordered, his body trembling. "I don’t want to see this waste of space!"

"Tang Xuewu, didn’t you hear Grandfather?" Tang Chuchu snarled, pointing a finger in her cousin’s face. "Grandfather just recovered! He can’t handle this much agitation! Get out!"

"Xuewu, we aren’t welcome here," Qin Long said with a faint smile, gently tugging at her arm.

He had never intended to save the old man in the first place; he only did it because he couldn’t bear to see Xuewu so heartbroken. I never gave a thought to currying favor with the Tang Family, and I certainly don’t care how they see me. I have never had to explain my actions to anyone, so I’m not about to start caring about their attitudes and opinions.

Tang Xuewu sighed in resignation. "Grandfather, please rest well. I’m leaving now..."

Old Master Tang simply turned his head away, pretending not to hear.

Tang Xuewu supported Qin Long as they slowly walked out. After a brief farewell to the old man, Zhang Meilan and Tang De turned and followed them. Staying would only lead to being neglected or mocked, so why bother?

"Wait a minute," Old Master Tang said after they had left. "While I was unconscious, I vaguely heard someone telling me to treat Xuewu well. What was that about?"

Tang Yuxiang immediately chuckled and said, "How could that be? Grandfather, you must have been hallucinating."

The old man pondered for a moment. "No, I have a feeling it wasn’t a hallucination," he said slowly. "Anyway, who was the expert who pulled me back from the brink of death? We must reward them generously! If it weren’t for them, I would have been done for this time."

Old Master Tang’s tone was serious and left no room for argument. As much as he detested Qin Long, he understood the importance of repaying a life-saving debt. If word got out that he didn’t, he would become a laughingstock.

At his words, everyone fell silent, their faces frozen in awkward expressions. The person who saved him was the very same Qin Long he had just mercilessly berated.

But how could the Tang Family possibly allow Qin Long to become their great benefactor? If the old man started relying on Tang Xuewu again because of him, wouldn’t the entire Tang Family inheritance fall into her hands? And so, the family members exchanged glances, a silent, unified agreement passing between them. No one spoke a word about Qin Long saving the old man.

"Grandfather, the hospital’s experts saved you, along with the expensive medicine I bought from overseas," Tang Yuxiang said with a beaming smile, immediately seizing all the credit. "I’ve already decided to personally donate five million to the hospital to thank them for saving you."

The rest of the Tang family quickly chimed in with their agreement, unwilling to offend Tang Yuxiang, their grandfather’s clear favorite.
