Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Can We Buy Candy for Manbao?

Yi Meng and Mrs. Qi exchanged a glance, both wondering what the girl was planning to do in the back courtyard.

In the next instant, they both turned and walked toward the rear courtyard.

What the daughter says, must be listened to!

What the granddaughter wants to see, must be seen!

The two of them brought Qi Manman along and headed for the back courtyard.

Qi Zheng, who had just emerged from the outhouse, was startled to see them heading his way: "Why are you coming over again? The outhouse is quite stable, I won’t fall into the latrine!"

Qi Zheng’s first reaction was that they were coming to find him.

Who knew Mrs. Qi would roll her eyes at him and snap back, "Who cares if you fall in or not!"

Yi Meng explained from the side, "Dad, it’s Manbao who wants to come over and take a look, probably worried about you!"

As soon as Qi Zheng heard this, a smile appeared on his face: "Still, my sweet granddaughter knows how to care for people."

As he spoke, Qi Zheng hurried a few steps forward, even extending his arms as if to embrace Qi Manman.

But unexpectedly, his precious granddaughter said, "Mom, go there, go there!"

Qi Manman waved her little hands, pointing to a spot not far from the outhouse, her big eyes shining, just like a puppy spotting a bone.

Qi Zheng was stunned, his arms still outstretched for the embrace.

What?

Wasn’t his precious granddaughter coming to find him?

Mrs. Qi urged, "Quick, quick, I reckon she needs to pee."

"Manbao doesn’t need to pee."

Qi Manman pouted unhappily.

Yi Meng’s heart skipped a beat, with a gut feeling: her daughter was up to something again!

"Dad, Mom, well, I’ll take Manbao over to have a look, if she needs to pee, I’ll take care of it on the way."

Yi Meng tightened her hold on her daughter and quickened her pace.

"Mom, right there!"

Qi Manman pointed excitedly at a jujube tree, saying, "That big tree looks nice!"

Yet again with the nice-looking tree!

Yi Meng was even more convinced that her daughter had discovered something good.

She remembered when they went up the mountain to forage, her daughter, relying on the "nice-looking tree" theory, not only helped everyone find lots of chestnuts but also led them safely down the mountain.

Thus, Yi Meng couldn’t help but feel joyous, quickening her pace even more.

Mrs. Qi and Qi Zheng were even more bewildered.

A nice-looking big tree?

Could it be that Manbao wants to eat jujubes?

The two elderly people could at least recognize it was a jujube tree.

It wasn’t due to much experience but because they saw a few shriveled jujubes hanging on the tree.

When they reached the jujube tree, Qi Manman wriggled to be let down.

Since Yi Meng saw there were no pits or bumps nearby, only deep snow, she casually kicked around the snow with her foot to ensure her daughter wouldn’t sink into it before putting her down.

The little girl landed on the ground and, without giving her mother a chance to hold her, sprinted towards the big tree.

"Manbao!"

Yi Meng was startled and hurriedly followed, reaching out to grab her little arm, worried she might fall.

But just as she was about to catch her, the little body swerved, directly circling around the tree.

"Manbao!"

Yi Meng called out in surprise again.

The snow here was evidently thicker than in the front courtyard, already reaching to Yi Meng’s knees.

Let alone running, she could barely walk straight.

But the little girl, like a fish diving into water, swung her small arms left and right, making her own way through.

Yi Meng was able to catch up only by following the path her daughter made.

Finally reaching behind the big tree, Yi Meng saw her daughter crouching in a snow nest, snow about to collapse onto her, and hurriedly picked her up.

As soon as Yi Meng scooped her up, all the snow on either side flopped onto the spot Qi Manman had just squatted.

Looking at Qi Manman now, her whole body was covered in white snowflakes, making Yi Meng’s eyes twitch.

Holding the little girl in one arm, she brushed the snow off her with the other, scolding as she did: "Why are you so disobedient? With such deep snow, what if you got hurt?"

Qi Manman didn’t get upset at being brushed, but grinned broadly instead: "Mom, there’s money here, can we buy candy for Manbao?"

The little girl spoke while pointing at the spot she had just crouched over.

Yi Meng stopped brushing off the snow and asked in surprise, "What, what did you say? There’s what here?"

"Money."

Qi Manman turned to look at Mrs. Qi, who had followed them: "Grandma showed me, white money, and some not white, but Manbao has never seen them."

Trailing behind, Mrs. Qi and Qi Zheng heard this, their minds buzzing.

"F-first, let’s go inside!"

Qi Zheng was the first to react: "Don’t let the child freeze out here."

"...Fine."

Yi Meng didn’t know how to describe her feelings.

Although she had guessed her daughter was up to something, with the way things were going, this might not be a smaller matter than discovering ginseng last time!

The three of them hurried towards the rear courtyard house’s back door.

The family had already opened all the doors of each room.

Though the weather was cold now, the inside was dark with a smell of dust and mold; to make it habitable, they had to air it out.

Though they were heading indoors for warmth, it wasn’t much better than outside.

Qi Zheng took the rear this time, giving one last glance at the spot his granddaughter had pointed to, with a complex expression, before cautiously checking the rooftops and walls to ensure no one was watching, then hurriedly joined the others inside.

Upon entering, Qi Zheng called out: "Woman, shut the windows and doors first."

He himself ran to the woodshed, bringing back a small bundle of firewood, and ignited it in the middle of the room.

Warmth soon radiated from the fire, while Yi Meng dusted off all the snow from her child’s body and held her close, afraid she’d catch a chill.

"Manbao, tell Grandpa, was what you said just now all true?"

Qi Zheng was inclined to believe in his granddaughter’s inexplicable abilities, but could not help but seek confirmation.

Qi Manman nodded: "Of course! Manbao doesn’t lie."

Qi Zheng and Mrs. Qi exchanged a look, then told Qi Manman: "Once you’ve spoken about this, don’t repeat it to anyone else, understand?"

After all, children are prone to careless talk, and Qi Zheng was indeed worried she might mention it to others.

Whether or not the money his granddaughter spoke of was real, caution was always wise.

Qi Manman covered her mouth and nodded, then spoke muffledly: "Only tell Grandpa, Grandma, and Mom, not even Dad!"

"Good girl!"

Qi Zheng rubbed the little girl’s head, then instructed Mrs. Qi and Yi Meng: "Same goes for you two, keep this matter quiet, I’ll check it out myself later."

"Okay!"

Mrs. Qi responded most quickly, then suggested: "How about not going back to the small courtyard for now, let’s have Eldest Brother’s family pack up and move here!"
