Heaven-Defying Rebel Sage-Chapter 75 - The Jade Emperors Plot to Kill Gou Chen
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: The Jade Emperor’s Plot to Kill Gou Chen
Chapter 75 -75: The Jade Emperor’s Plot to Kill Gou Chen
Emperor Gou Chen, besieged by three assailants, had no choice but to shatter his destiny and exit the Ancient Battlefield, forsaking the contest for the title of Green Emperor.
Yet upon his departure, the secrets of the Ancient Battlefield were wiped clean from his memory, including everything about the Chaos Heaven Demon, which was likely the handiwork of the Green Emperor. This news, however, was not to be leaked, so much so that even Saints refrained from speaking of it—probably due to fears that it would sow terror and chaos in the Three Realms or that some might harbor ulterior motives.
Emperor Gou Chen then instructed two of his subordinate Taiyi Golden Immortals to continue their covert operations in the Southern Ridge Demon Mountain, while he himself ascended to the Heavenly Court to report back to the Jade Emperor.
Emperor Gou Chen had many formidable followers in the Western Extremity Palace, but since the strife in the Southern Ridge Demon Mountain was specifically related to the Green Emperor contest, it was inappropriate to bring forces from the Lower Realm. Soaring through the atmosphere, he braved through windstorms and thunderclouds before arriving outside the Southern Heavenly Gate.
“Emperor Gou Chen!” Virupaksa bowed respectfully to Emperor Gou Chen.
Emperor Gou Chen gave a slight nod, inquired about the Jade Emperor’s whereabouts, and headed towards the Hall of Brightness.
Shortly after, he reached the Hall of Brightness.
“Your Majesty, Emperor Gou Chen requests an audience,” said a handmaiden as she entered and addressed the Jade Emperor.
The Jade Emperor quietly slipped the plain-colored Yunjie Flag into his sleeve and commanded his attendant, “You shall go to the Jade Pool and relay my instructions to the Queen Mother—thus and so, thus and so…” This attendant, adept in escaping techniques and the Soaring Earth Golden Light, vanished in an instant without Emperor Gou Chen noticing.
The Jade Emperor gestured to the handmaiden, “Declare Emperor Gou Chen’s presence in the hall.”
The handmaiden gave a curtsy and slowly turned to convey the message to Emperor Gou Chen.
Emperor Gou Chen entered the Hall of Brightness, performed a ceremonial bow, sang a greeting, and then said, “Your Majesty, Gou Chen was incompetent and allowed that monkey to become the Green Emperor.”
The Jade Emperor sighed and waved his hand, “I am already aware. It is the destiny of the Demon Tribe to rise.”
After a brief wait, the messenger attendant returned to the Hall of Brightness to report back. Seeing Emperor Gou Chen present, he bowed to the Jade Emperor and said, “Your Majesty, the task has been accomplished.”
The Jade Emperor gestured dismissal, “Very well, you may leave.”
Once the messenger attendant departed, the Jade Emperor continued the conversation with Emperor Gou Chen.
Emperor Gou Chen lamented, “That scoundrel is Sun Wukong, who once caused havoc in the Celestial Palace. He is the transformation of the Sky-mending Stone left by Goddess Nuwa. With the merit of mending the heavens, he possesses vast destiny. Alas, it is the will of heaven, fate is inescapable!”
The Jade Emperor secretly chuckled to himself, thinking, “Soon you will understand what is truly inescapable.”
The Jade Emperor sat at his desk while Emperor Gou Chen took a seat in a lower chair. Unbeknownst to others, he had quietly gripped the plain-colored Yunjie Flag, ready to make his move at any moment. Ever since Wukong had humiliated him in front of the Heavenly Court, he had been nursing a grievance, diligently practicing cultivation techniques he had persuaded from the Queen Mother, and practicing daily in the Hall of Brightness. By now, he had achieved the strength of a Taiyi Golden Immortal.
As the ruler of the Three Realms and Supreme Majesty of the Vast Heavens, even the Three Pure Ones would offer salutations to the Jade Emperor, whose divine authority was supreme. However, lacking in personal strength, his words carried little influence, and despite the apparent respect they showed, the Three Pure Ones hardly bothered with him. The Jade Emperor had once thought that merely commanding a vast number of generals and indulging in peaches for longevity was enough, neglecting cultivation. Little did he know that once the Buddhist and Taoist forces clashed, his subordinates would either lean towards Buddhism or Taoism, leaving few truly loyal to him, thus allowing Sun Wukong to easily invade the Dome of the Celestial Palace!
After a casual chat, Emperor Gou Chen was ready to take his leave.
The Jade Emperor hastily interjected, “Ah, Emperor Gou Chen, why the hurry? Please have a cup of tea before you go.”
Emperor Gou Chen felt that something was amiss with the Jade Emperor today, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
The Jade Emperor then had a handmaiden bring tea. Being a Daluo Golden Immortal, Emperor Gou Chen was immune to all poisons, except those arising from powerful Magical Treasures such as the Myriad Poisons Banner. Therefore, despite sensing foreboding, Emperor Gou Chen had no concerns and drank much of the tea in one gulp.
This tea was the elusive Misty Cloud Tea, grown in the deep recesses of the Celestial Realm and exceedingly scarce, with only ten kilograms harvested annually.
Just as Emperor Gou Chen was savoring the Misty Cloud Tea with his eyes closed, a crisp sound of a cup hitting the floor erupted, making his scalp tingle with alarm! A shrewd character himself, he realized the implications in a flash. With a slap on the armrest of his chair, he lunged towards the Jade Emperor across the desk, intending to take him hostage first to force the hands of those lying in ambush outside.
The Jade Emperor too was startled but remained composed, lifting the plain-colored Yunjie Flag into the air.
Emperor Gou Chen was astounded to realize that the Jade Emperor’s Mana had risen to the level of a Taiyi Golden Immortal, his Golden Core becoming perfectly harmonious, and that the Magic Treasure he wielded was none other than the plain-colored Yunjie Flag—one of the Five Directions Flags, known for its formidable defenses and not inconsiderable offense.
Realizing he could not capture the Jade Emperor now that the Yunjie Flag was raised, Emperor Gou Chen twisted around to deploy his fire escape technique, shattering the dome of the Hall of Brightness and soaring up into the sky.
The ambushers outside only saw a skyrocketing red beam, like a rising sun, carrying a Three-legged Golden Crow within!
Immediately, the Four Heavenly Kings cast their heavenly nets across all directions, entangling the expanse to prevent Emperor Gou Chen from escaping.
These four Heavenly Kings were originally from the Buddhist Sect, but had long been bought over by the Jade Emperor to be his confidants, outwardly displaying loyalty to the Buddhist Sect while secretly defying it.
Emperor Gou Chen raged, “Jade Emperor, you old fool, you seek my life! If I do not die today, I will make sure you all pay a hundredfold!”
The Queen Mother’s chariot halted midair, and with a gentle point of her finger, she commanded, “Seize him!”
In an instant, the Seven Fairies swooped down. Goodness, each of these Seven Fairies was a Taiyi Golden Immortal with a fragile appearance, but such formidable experts they were! Of course, having feasted on the peaches for five hundred years and being forced to train day and night by the Queen Mother, even a pig would become a Taiyi Golden Immortal!
The Queen Mother’s peaches were indeed exceptional. Ever since Sun Wukong’s upheaval in the Celestial Palace, she realized that outsiders couldn’t be relied on and that even after eating the peaches, they did not do her bidding. Thus, she cultivated her own confidants using the peaches as a resource, forcibly creating several Taiyi Golden Immortals.
For some time, the Queen Mother and the Jade Emperor had been conspiring to eliminate the four great emperors. Now was an excellent opportunity to dispose of Gou Chen!
The Seven Fairies formed a Formation, each holding a Golden Sand Divine Sword—a weapon commanded by the Jade Emperor to be mined from the depths of the Primordial Wilderness Universe, polished with the power of starlight for forty-nine years, then refined in the Alchemy Furnace for another eighty-one years—indeed a most formidable Magical Treasure!
With a wave of the Treasured Sword, golden light flickered, and a shower of golden sand filled the sky, crackling in the air. Once it touched the body, it would explode and injure the Primordial Spirit!
Emperor Gou Chen let out an angry roar and brought forth the Five Elements Formation. Gold, wood, water, fire, and earth revolved, forming a great array above his head, trapping the Seven Fairies inside, leaving them unable to escape for the moment.
A Five Elements Cauldron appeared from the center of Emperor Gou Chen’s brow, hovering three inches above his head. Five dragons roared, the power of the Five Elements in motion, as if to break through the net of heaven and earth!
At that moment, a golden coin shot towards the Five Elements Cauldron from within the snare of the net, with incredible speed.
Emperor Gou Chen was both shocked and angered and exclaimed, “Zhao Gongming, when did you sell out to the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother!”
Zhao Gongming, a former disciple of the Jie Taoist Sect, powerful in his methods, also had three sisters, the Three Pure Ones, who once captured twelve Golden Immortals with the Primordial Golden Dou and stripped them of their essence and Five Qi. Eventually, Zhao Gongming himself met his end at the hands of Jiang Ziya, who used the Seven-Arrow Book with Fixed Tips, and after ascending to the Deification Platform, he became the God of Wealth in the Celestial Court.
This Golden Coin was called the Falling Treasure Coin, which upon striking, would temporarily disperse the True Spirit within the Magical Treasure, transferring it into his hands—a formidable weapon against Magical Treasures!
Emperor Gou Chen did not dare to strike with his own halberd but resorted to dodging with the Golden Crow Chasing the Sun Body Technique. After evading seven or eight times, he finally avoided the relentless Falling Treasure Coin. The Falling Treasure Coin requires the element of surprise; once it misses, and the enemy becomes wary, hitting the target again becomes difficult.
Zhao Gongming hadn’t expected Emperor Gou Chen to be so alert and actually dodge the Falling Treasure Coin.
The opportunity that Emperor Gou Chen obtained in the Ancient Battlefield of the Emperor’s Path Ranking was no ordinary fortune. Having assimilated the Five Elements Cauldron, his Mana significantly increased, naturally giving him the ability “to sense the cicada before the autumn wind.”
At this moment, however, the Jade Emperor handed over the plain-colored Cloud Crossing Flag to Lord of Salvation, Wen Zhong, previously the Thunder God in the mortal kingdom of Shang and after ascent to the Deification Platform, he was named the Heavenly Lord in charge of all gods within the Thunder Department.
The Queen Mother, with her formidable strategies, had even pulled Wen Zhong into her camp.
With Wen Zhong leading the gods of the Thunder Department into battle, the Hall of Brightness shone with lightning, flashes of thunder crisscrossed, thankfully a great Array was deployed outside, otherwise many of the Celestial Court’s magnificent halls might have collapsed from the tremors.
Wen Zhong, bearing the plain-colored Cloud Crossing Flag, came to capture Gou Chen!
Any among those titled Heavenly Lords had formidable methods. The most powerful among them was certainly the Taiyi Golden Immortal, Lv Dongbin, the Lord of Salvation, whose mount, the Nine-spirit Prime Saint, was also formidable.
Emperor Gou Chen was infuriated. The blue-colored Treasured Lotus Banner was unparalleled in defense, and he found it difficult to break through. Additionally, with Wen Zhong’s formidable methods and his Thunder God Whip wielding the force of the Nine Heavens Thunder Tribulation, Gou Chen had to defend against the Seven Fairies’ array of Golden Sand Swords and also be wary of Zhao Gongming’s Falling Treasure Coin and Cornucopia. Diverting his full attention to deal with Wen Zhong was impractical.
The twenty-four gods of the Thunder Department formed the Nine Heavens Thunder Tribulation Great Array, summoning thunder and lightning to strike down Emperor Gou Chen!
Luckily, the Five Elements Cauldron was the Divine Treasure of Fuxi the Holy Emperor, refined over his lifetime, making it nearly indestructible. Otherwise, by now, Emperor Gou Chen would probably have vomited three liters of blood.

While holding off Wen Zhong with his halberd, Emperor Gou Chen also controlled the Five Elements Cauldron to resist the lightning from the Nine Heavens Thunder Tribulation Great Array, truly at his wit’s end!
With no other choice, Emperor Gou Chen turned to flee, distancing himself by several dozen yards, and took out a Sarira. Crushing it in his palm, he silently implored, “Buddha Ancestor, save me, Buddha Ancestor, save me, Buddha Ancestor, save me!”
After calling out thrice, he ceased.
Wen Zhong knew that Emperor Gou Chen had once stayed with the Buddhist Sect as a Protector Heavenly King. Seeing him use a Sarira, he suspected some powerful method might ensue, and he dared not advance. Zhao Gongming too didn’t put in full effort, holding the Falling Treasure Coin at the ready for a sneak attack while using the Cornucopia to snatch Emperor Gou Chen’s Five Elements Cauldron. But with Emperor Gou Chen’s efforts into refining it and it being a formidable treasure, it was not so easily captured.
Zhao Gongming saw this and cried out, “Not good! Everyone, don’t hold back, capture this wretch!”
