Chapter 42 -42: The Third Prince Causes Havoc in the Celestial Palace

“Nezha, come out here!”

“You unfilial son, come out to your brother!”

Jinzha and Muzha, Nezha’s eldest and second brothers, shouted in front of Nezha’s mansion, using the Buddhist Lion’s Roar that shook the whole estate to its core! Their father had been killed, and at that moment, they were filled with rage, coming to demand justice.

Nezha, with the Fire Spear in hand, Wind-Fire Wheels under his feet, Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon around his waist, and the Qiankun Ring on his shoulder, slowly flew out from the mansion. It was clear he was ready, fully armed and waiting for a battle.

Jinzha shouted, “Nezha, you unfilial son, you actually didn’t save our father when he was dying!”

Nezha replied slowly, “Not save him? How did I not save him? That day in front of the army, I clearly saw that arrow was aimed at me. Shocked, I immediately retreated, but then he aimed at our father. How was I to foresee that? Heh, you now blame me?”

Muzha rebuked, “Stop talking nonsense. Many generals involved in the Battle of Mount Li have told us everything! It was you, who saw death and did not save!”

Nezha said, “Heh… Both elder brothers seem to be living comfortably, following Manjushri Bodhisattva and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, soon to achieve the Taiyi Golden Immortal status, huh? Since my name was inscribed on the Investiture of the Gods, I have followed our father every day, slaying demons and subduing devils. Where were you? I have endured hardships daily, and where were you? When I was driven to death, did either of you say a word in my defense?”

Nezha’s grasp on the Fire Spear tightened, and a certain emotion—hatred—began to emerge within his eyes.

Since his name had been included on the Investiture of the Gods, Nezha lived his days in the Celestial Realm in a daze, driven by others, burying his hatred deeply, so deep that sometimes he would forget it himself. He felt as though he had become a soulless man or, perhaps, a dog that only obeyed its master. If such emotions of hatred were oppressed for too long, once they burst forth, they would be unstoppable.

Jinzha and Muzha were furiously reprimanding, “Stop your senseless babbling!”

Nezha raised his Fire Spear, pointing directly at them, and angrily said, “You two better not push me! Back then, I already sacrificed my flesh to repay my mother and bones to repay my father, severing all ties with the Li Family. If it weren’t for that Treasure Pagoda, I would have indeed turned traitor and killed Li Jing! If you keep prattling, do not blame me for not reminiscing our past brotherhood when I raise my hand to kill!”

Jinzha shouted angrily, “Fine, fine, fine, what a rebellious son!”

Muzha too, with eyes wide from anger, said, “Big brother, stop talking, let’s capture this traitor and avenge our father!”

Each brandished magical treasures they received from their Bodhisattvas, one the Sword of Wisdom and the other a hook sword.

The once close-knit brothers suddenly burst into a fierce fight!

Nezha, after years of combat and demon subduing, naturally possessed extraordinary martial power. How could these two be his match? The discord among the brothers had lasted for a long time. Back then, Nezha’s exceptional talents had won the affection of Taiyi True Person, who bestowed him with many Magical Treasures. How could they not be jealous? Thus, when Nezha was driven to death, neither had said a word in his favor.

In an instant, Nezha, with his Three Heads Six Arms, raised both his Demon-Slaying Saber and his Sword of Wisdom; wielding them, he left the two with no power to fight back.

Jinzha, with no other choice, stepped back and used a Buddhist Dharma Seal to leave the fray, summoning a Magical Treasure known as the Seven Treasures Golden Lotus, also called the Escaping Dragon Pillar.

As soon as the Golden Lotus was summoned, it immediately burst into bright light and smashed down towards Nezha!

Nezha repelled Muzha with a shout, casting the Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon and the Qiankun Ring; the Ribbon wrapped and bound the Seven Treasures Golden Lotus, while the Qiankun Ring struck it on the head. The Golden Lotus swayed under the impact, its light extinguished, and it fell from the sky.

Before Manjushri Bodhisattva had joined Buddhism, he was known as Manjushri, the Great Law Heavenly Lord, one of the Twelve Golden Immortals. Nezha’s master was Taiyi Real Person, who was once Manjushri Bodhisattva’s fellow disciple. How could the Magical Treasure he gave Nezha be inferior?

Muzha, meanwhile, summoned the Ruyi Staff he had borrowed from Samantabhadra Bodhisattva and struck at Nezha with all his might!

Nezha, filled with anger, saw that the two brothers truly disregarded their past affection and had summoned such powerful Magical Treasures to deal with him. He raised his Demon-Slaying Saber and Sword, blocking the Ruyi Staff, with the Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon then turning back to strike at Muzha. The Qiankun Ring pressed against Jinzha, and the Fire Spear kept thrusting out… The two had thought the Magical Treasures borrowed from the Bodhisattva would be enough to contend with Nezha, not realizing he had been exorcising demons and advancing his powers year after year, already achieving the status of Taiyi Golden Immortal, with his treasures being so formidable.

Having enjoyed leisure days following the Bodhisattvas, Jinzha and Muzha, though diligent in their practices, had long been out of combat. The battle revealed their lack of skill.

Alone, Nezha withstood both, and had they not borrowed Bodhisattvas’ Magical Treasures, he would have slain them long ago!

Nezha, riding his invincible Wind-Fire Wheels at an incredibly fast speed, pressed straight towards Jinzha, who, in alarm, summoned the Sword of Wisdom, and the Dharma Body of Manjushri Bodhisattva appeared, seated on a Green Lion, fingertips forming the Wisdom Seal, striking a palm at Nezha!

Nezha sneered, “Incompetent fool!”

Wary of the Bodhisattva’s Dharmakaya, he dared not meet the attack head-on, swerved back, and with a turn of the Wind-Fire Wheels, was gone in an instant.

Jinzha had suddenly realized that the Qiankun Ring had disappeared, and just as he was about to put away his Sword of Wisdom to defend himself, he heard a “clang” sound. Luckily, he dodged in time; otherwise, his Niwan Palace would have been utterly smashed, blossoming like a thousand peach flowers! However, the Qiankun Ring did hit Jinzha’s shoulder, shattering the bones and causing him to cry out in pain.

Muzha’s face was also swollen from a strike by the Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon, causing his face to puff up greatly.

Nezha then threw a gold brick, which was made of solid gold and especially meant for smashing people, possessing no small amount of force.

Muzha’s soul nearly fled, knowing that if the gold brick hit him, his head would burst open. In a panic, he quickly summoned another magical treasure to block it.

Nezha kicked the two Wind-Fire Wheels under his feet, transforming them into two streaks of fire that hit Muzha squarely in the chest and lower abdomen. Muzha spat blood and was sent flying for several miles, his insides churning like a river overturned, and who knows how many ribs and chest bones were broken. His eyes rolled back, and he immediately passed out.

Seeing Muzha being violently knocked away by Nezha and not knowing if he was dead, Jinzha’s eyes turned red, and he roared as he charged to kill!

Nezha sneered coldly. The Wind-Fire Wheels returned to him, and with a step, he was already darting away. He produced an embroidered ball in his hand and tossed it into the air, where it vanished. Jinzha, sensing danger, hastily turned to block it and indeed, the embroidered ball was aiming for the back of his head! In blocking it, he delayed his reaction, and Nezha threw another gold brick, which hit Jinzha squarely in the forehead, fracturing his skull. Thankfully, while the Niwan Palace was damaged, his Primordial Spirit was unharmed.

Nezha, never intending to kill the two, said, “Today, I shall merely leave you both severely injured as a lesson!”

Just then, he noticed that a group of Heavenly Soldiers and Generals was closing in to apprehend him!

Nezha was shocked and, lifting the Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon, swept it fiercely, plunging the surroundings into darkness. Hundreds of Heavenly Soldiers were minced into blood and water, while a few Star Gods and Heavenly Masters, knowing of Nezha’s fearsome reputation, dared not approach. Nezha seized the moment; the Wind-Fire Wheels spun, and he transformed into a streak of light and disappeared.

Nezha flew all the way to the Central Palace Extreme Star and found the residence of Taiyi Real Man, plunging straight into it.

The apprentice cried out, “Eldest senior brother, why are you so reckless!”

Nezha didn’t pay any attention and went straight for Taiyi Real Man’s training room. There, he saw Taiyi Real Man sitting cross-legged, eyes slightly closed, holding a horsetail whisk, with green light swirling around him—clearly in the midst of training.

Nezha urgently said, “Master, save me, master, save me!”

Taiyi Real Man opened his eyes and asked, “What has happened?”

Nezha explained everything clearly and also revealed all his thoughts. After listening, Taiyi Real Man slightly frowned and then heaved a long sigh.

“You were born rebellious, and after undergoing the bone cleaving ritual to repay your father, you severed your ties with the Li Family lineage. I had foreseen this day coming. However, Li Jing was not killed by you. Jinzha and Muzha came to capture you, and the Heavenly Soldiers and Generals got involved, which likely means Manjushri Bodhisattva and Samantabhadra Bodhisattva have swayed the emperor with their words, and the emperor grieves for Li Jing’s death… Hm, the Buddhist Family does seem to be extending its reach.” Taiyi Real Man muttered to himself, but Nezha only caught the beginning of his monologue.

Nezha asked, “Master, what should I do?”

Taiyi Real Man replied, “Go to the Lower Realm… Mount Li is now influential and has recently moved to Water Curtain Cave, where you may seek refuge.”

Upon hearing this, Nezha was overjoyed, but then he furrowed his brows and said, “But I fear that the Heavenly Court is heavily guarded outside. How can I make it out?”

Taiyi Real Man said, “With your capabilities, can’t you leave the Heavenly Court? Here’s what we’ll do—I’ll help you with the Nine Dragons Divine Fire Cover, and you can fight your way out. As for those Taiyi Golden Immortals, I’ll secretly stop them. The Four Great Emperors owe me some favors; they won’t take action.”

Taiyi Real Man truly indulged his disciple, letting Nezha fight his way out of the Heavenly Court, which was bound to cause an uproar. Indulgence must be hereditary; after all, the Lord of Primordial Beginning was also highly indulgent, but now, after being corrected by the Supreme Revered Taoist many times, he also learned to abide by the Heavenly Dao and karmic consequences.

So, Taiyi Real Man cast the Nine Dragons Divine Fire Cover over Nezha. After Nezha kowtowed to Taiyi Real Man, he stepped on the Wind-Fire Wheels and flew out from the Central Palace Extreme Star. As soon as he flew out, he saw that the skies were filled with deities!

Nezha displayed his Three Heads Six Arms form and, protected by the Nine Dragons Divine Fire Cover, neglected to defend and instead attacked ferociously all the way. The Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon and Qiankun Ring were immensely powerful, causing complete chaos! The Star Lords, Heavenly Kings, Heavenly Masters, and Star Gods all turned tail and fled. With Taiyi Real Man’s Nine Dragons Divine Fire Cover protecting him, they couldn’t touch Nezha, and their treasures were terrifying—if mishandled, they could be obliterated… As a result, the Celestial beings, realizing they couldn’t hit him and that he was formidable, just went through the motions, blocking with a treasure before quickly leaving.

Today, Nezha understood just how easy it was for Sun Wukong to wreak havoc in the Celestial Palace all those years ago. He was able to fight his way out with relative ease, as the deities only pretended to resist. If he got angry and decided to use the Heaven-and-Earth Silk Ribbon to strangle them, they would just withdraw their treasures and leave… After this commotion, Nezha burst into wild laughter, descending from the Southern Heavenly Gate and heading straight for Water Curtain Cave.

“Damn it, this is real freedom! What’s the point of being in the Heavenly Court?”

After leaving the Heavenly Court, Nezha acted recklessly all the way. When he passed by the East Sea, anger surged up in his heart, and with a throw of the Qiankun Ring, he stirred the East Sea into yet another upheaval, then retrieved his treasure and left.

“Who is it! Who dares to be so bold!”

The Dragon King of the East Sea roared, but he saw no one. After capturing a patrolling Yaksha to question, he learned it was Nezha again! Annoyed, he put on his official robes and went to the Heavenly Court to lodge a complaint.
