Healing a Fallen S-Rank Beastman: Everyone Fights Over the Little Female-Chapter 224: Cute.
When confronted with Lu Xiao’s venomous words, Platinum was stunned for only a moment before he burst out laughing. He realized he truly was a lost cause. Even when she said she wished he were dead, he still thought her cruel words sounded gentle.
C Luo watched Platinum laugh maniacally but paid him no mind. He had always known that Platinum was incredibly paranoid.
There was no point in trying to reason with him about most things.
It was better to just let him be than to waste one’s breath.
After leaving them, Lu Xiao returned to where she was staying.
When she got back, Fred was already awake and standing in the courtyard, searching for her. The worry in his eyes vanished only when he saw her return.
Lu Xiao smiled at him. "Are you feeling any better, Fred?"
"I’m perfectly fine now. Thank you, Miss Lu Xiao."
"That’s good. Let’s eat." Lu Xiao took the roast meat she had been reheating from the fire pit. Seeing this, Fred rushed over to help.
Lu Xiao didn’t object, letting go so he could carry the roasted meat to the table.
In truth, it was Lu Xiao’s first time eating such primitive roast meat.
Fred looked at the meager meal before them, then at Lu Xiao’s face, smudged with dirt she’d gotten on it at some point. ’She’s probably never had to endure this kind of hardship before.’
’Lu Xiao should be living a pampered life, yet here she is, forced to suffer in a place like this.’ The thought made him want to tear the two men next door limb from limb.
"I’ll find a way for us to get out of here as soon as possible," Fred said suddenly. Lu Xiao blinked, then smiled. "Okay. I can’t help much with that, so I’ll have to rely on you, Admiral Fred. For now, eat up. I’ve already tried it. It’s a bit bland, but the meat is very fresh."
As she spoke, Lu Xiao sliced off a piece of meat with a bone knife and popped it into her mouth. She chewed without any sign of distaste for the simple fare.
It seemed she could adapt quickly, no matter where she was.
But to Fred, the more adaptable she was, the more his heart ached for her.
"You’ve had to endure so much, Miss Lu Xiao."
Finally understanding what Fred was thinking, Lu Xiao smiled and shook her head. "Don’t overthink it, Admiral Fred. Don’t you think it’s incredibly fortunate that we’re all still alive after everything we’ve been through? Besides, we have shelter and meat to eat. That’s much better than starving out in the elements, right? I don’t feel like I’m suffering. In fact, I’m quite happy right now. Our environment can be changed, but being alive is what’s most important. Now, hurry and eat before it gets cold. It’ll taste much worse then."
Lu Xiao’s optimism manifested in many ways. The young woman seemed to have a natural talent for turning a bad situation into a good one, and her positive, pragmatic personality was infectious to those around her.
Once they had finished eating, Lu Xiao went to check on Ares. He was still asleep, but his treated wounds were no longer bleeding and he showed no signs of a fever, which made Lu Xiao sigh in relief.
She didn’t wake him. For a Beastman, sleep was one of the best ways to recover.
After confirming Ares was all right, Lu Xiao opened the box containing the Crystal Fruit.
The moment she opened the wooden box, Fred looked over, his eyes wide with surprise. "What is that?"
Seeing the look of shock he couldn’t hide, Lu Xiao asked, "What are you sensing?"
Fred stared at the translucent fruit in the wooden box. "They smell incredible... and they’re radiating such a potent life force. My instincts are telling me to eat them."
’I didn’t expect the Crystal Fruit would be this alluring to Male Beastmen,’ Lu Xiao thought.
"This is Crystal Fruit, something from this world. I was told the previous witch doctor here used it to treat the Spirit Sea disorder in S-Class males. Right now, the tribe only has these two left."
After hearing her explanation, Fred’s astonishment grew. "You mean to say this can treat Spirit Sea disorder?"
"Yes. So I guess this whole ordeal wasn’t a complete disaster, was it?" Lu Xiao said with a smile, wiggling the box in her hand. ’If we can bring the Crystal Fruit back and study it, will curing the Spirit Sea disorder in S-Class males still be such a difficult problem?’
Fred immediately understood her implication, and a smile lit up his eyes. "When you’re around, Miss Lu Xiao, it seems that no matter where we are, bad things always manage to turn into good things."
"You’re giving me too much credit," Lu Xiao said with a laugh as she put the Crystal Fruit away. She hadn’t yet decided on the best way to handle them and couldn’t afford to waste their potential.
Ares woke up as night fell. He had been asleep for a long time, and when he opened his eyes, Lu Xiao could sense that he was in much better condition. Though still in his beast form, he no longer seemed so weak.
He tried to get up, but Lu Xiao gently pushed him back down. "Don’t move. You really shouldn’t be moving around right now, especially with that leg wound. I’ve set it for you, but you’ll cause problems if you’re not careful."
As she spoke, her hand gently stroked Ares’s soft fur.
’If it weren’t for the large leaves wrapped around his body to cover his wounds, he’d be just like a giant, fluffy body pillow right now. Normally, I’d be burying my hands in all that fur for a good petting session, but now I can only look. I’ll have to satisfy the urge by just stroking his uninjured head.’
’Ares, you have to get better soon,’ she thought. ’I really hate seeing you like this.’
As if understanding her, Ares stopped moving. He just nuzzled his head against Lu Xiao’s hand and let out a soft whimper.
Lu Xiao smiled, leaned over, and kissed his wolf head. "You must be hungry. I’ll go get you some meat. Wait for me."
After giving the white wolf’s ear a gentle squeeze, she got up and went outside to retrieve the roast meat she had kept warm by the fire pit.
When she returned, Lu Xiao cut the roast meat into small, bite-sized pieces and fed them to Ares.
The night outside grew deeper. From his seat in the courtyard, Fred could clearly see through the window the pure, beautiful smile on Lu Xiao’s face as she fed Ares.
’Even though I don’t want to admit it, a part of me wishes I was the one lying there right now. If I could trade places with Ares, would Lu Xiao treat me the way she’s treating him?’
Realizing what he was thinking, Fred gave a self-deprecating laugh. ’What am I even dreaming of? If our situations were reversed, Lu Xiao would never treat me like that. Ares would probably be the one stuffing meat into my mouth right now.’
’Just imagining that scene...’ Fred suddenly decided it was a good thing he wasn’t the one who was so severely injured.
Ares ate the food Lu Xiao fed him, one bite at a time, savoring each piece as if it were a rare delicacy. Lu Xiao couldn’t resist leaning over to kiss him again. "Ares, you’re actually so cute like this."
