Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Acting

From Admiral Clan’s perspective, there was nothing wrong with Lu Xiao’s decision. After all, Ares was in a situation where he couldn’t afford any distractions.

However, as Lu Xiao’s Father, he also wished she would prioritize herself, just like all the other Females in the Empire who only had to think of themselves.

He felt himself becoming very conflicted. On one hand, he was glad his daughter wasn’t like the other Females in the Empire—not willful, not arrogant, and certainly not one to make unreasonable scenes or casually trample on a male’s dignity.

On the other hand, he wished Lu Xiao could be selfish and think only of herself.

He only realized at that moment that the more time he spent with Lu Xiao, the stronger his selfish desires became.

When Admiral Clan gave his assurance, Lu Xiao breathed a sigh of relief. She trusted him completely, knowing he would never go back on a promise.

Since Admiral Clan had firmly rejected her previous proposal, Lu Xiao didn’t press the matter. It had only been a suggestion, after all.

In truth, she agreed with what the Admiral had said earlier: the evidence they currently had was already enough to bring the Black Tower’s members to trial.

What they needed now was not more so-called evidence, but to find where the Black Tower members were hiding.

At this thought, Lu Xiao’s eyes instantly lit up. "Father, what if we do the opposite? We can make the Black Tower think I really went!"

Her suggestion immediately sparked an idea in Admiral Clan’s mind. He smiled. "I know what you mean. Go get some rest. I’ll handle the arrangements."

Seeing Admiral Clan turn to leave, Lu Xiao quickly ran after him. "Wait, Father! Can the clinic room I used before be reopened? I want to find something to do!"

’I don’t want to just sit around doing nothing!’

"Adjutant, take her!" Admiral Clan clearly understood what Lu Xiao meant. He waved his adjutant over to handle it, then turned and departed quickly.

Evidently, Lu Xiao’s last suggestion had opened up a new line of thinking for him.

Watching Admiral Clan’s hurried departure, Lu Xiao turned to the adjutant who had stayed behind with her. "Let’s go, then."

Arriving at the clinic room she had used during the mass physicals at the First Military Region, she found the interior was just as she had left it.

The adjutant pushed the door open. "Please wait a moment, Your Excellency Lu Xiao. I’ll have someone clean it up right away."

"There’s no need. I can do it myself. I don’t have anything else to do right now anyway. Could I trouble you, Adjutant, to spread the word that I’m here, so anyone who needs help can come find me?"

"It’s no trouble at all. It’s my duty. If they find out you’ve opened a clinic here, I’m afraid this room won’t be big enough to hold them all." The adjutant knew very well how crazy those guys were.

Lu Xiao smiled. "So you must tell everyone: only come if you need something. If you don’t, please don’t come and waste time!" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"I understand. Rest assured, I’ll make the proper arrangements."

Lu Xiao was willing to trust in this adjutant’s capabilities.

The clinic room wasn’t very dirty; a simple cleaning was all it needed to be usable. Lu Xiao opened the window, letting in fresh air, and the atmosphere in the room instantly changed.

Meanwhile, Admiral Clan had already dispatched the mission, and the vanguard team set out at the same time.

As Teacher Sherry walked out of the Fifth Research Institute, she noticed a tall, slender young male standing in the shade of a tree. He was holding two boxes of cake, and she couldn’t tell how long he had been waiting there.

What’s more, Teacher Sherry found him somewhat familiar, as if she’d seen him somewhere before.

Just as she was thinking this, the tall, slender young male approached, stopping at a respectful distance of about a meter away. "Good day, Shirley," he said deferentially.

"You know me? Have we met somewhere? I feel like you look familiar," Shirley asked, looking at him uncertainly.

"I’m Platinum. You and Lu Xiao saved me before. At the Female Protection Association... if it weren’t for you and Lu Xiao, I probably wouldn’t be standing here right now." As Platinum spoke, he had a shy smile on his face, but his eyes were exceptionally sincere.

This immediately jogged Teacher Sherry’s memory. "Ah, it’s you! I just saw you standing here and was wondering why you looked so familiar. It looks like you’re doing well now. Are you still working at the same place?"

"No, I’m not. I took Lu Xiao’s advice and changed jobs. I work at a cake shop now. I heard that you and Lu Xiao both work here, so I came by today to try my luck. I didn’t expect to actually run into you. This is a cake from my shop. It’s for you. I hope you don’t mind."

As he spoke, Platinum offered one of the cakes to Teacher Sherry.

Teacher Sherry hesitated for a moment before taking it. "Alright, then I won’t be polite. But you might not be able to give away the other one. Lu Xiao isn’t here; she’s taken some time off to rest."

The remaining cake in Platinum’s arms was clearly intended for Lu Xiao.

Sure enough, upon hearing this, a look of regret crossed Platinum’s face. "Then it seems I’ll have to find another time. But meeting you today, Shirley, is more than enough. I won’t disturb you any longer. Goodbye."

Platinum had maintained a perfect sense of propriety from start to finish, which left Shirley with a very good impression of him. So she said, "If you want to see Lu Xiao, you could try coming back in a few days."

Hearing this, Platinum immediately smiled. "Thank you for the tip. I’ll come back in a few days."

The words had barely left his mouth when he started to turn, but his body suddenly swayed, and the next second, he collapsed in front of Shirley.

The sudden turn of events startled Shirley. She hurried over to check on him and found his face pale and his breathing rapid. "What’s wrong, Platinum? Are you not feeling well?"

It didn’t seem like a mental problem, but more like a physical illness.

Platinum seemed to be having trouble breathing. He raised a hand and pointed toward a dilapidated hovercar parked not far away. Teacher Sherry reacted. "Is your medicine in the car? Wait here."

Teacher Sherry got up and ran to the car. She cautiously pulled the door handle and was relieved when it opened—Platinum hadn’t locked it. She ducked inside and started searching for his medicine.

Just as she was concentrating on her search, a hand suddenly reached out from behind and covered her mouth and nose. Before she lost consciousness, she saw Platinum, who had been collapsed on the ground, somehow get to his feet. He was now walking toward the car, one step at a time.

There wasn’t the slightest hint of anything wrong with him.

After Teacher Sherry passed out, C Luo retracted his hand. He looked at Platinum, who had opened the car door and was getting in. "Your acting is just terrible!"

"It was good enough to fool her," Platinum said, glancing at the unconscious Teacher Sherry in the passenger seat, his eyes filled with cold indifference.
