Chapter 167: Chapter 167: A Subtle Flex

The red-skirted female’s change in attitude was so sudden that it left the few people present a bit stunned.

Lu Xiao searched both the original owner’s memories and her own, but she had no impression of the female in red. This made it even harder to understand her uncharacteristic behavior after confirming Lu Xiao’s name.

It was as if Lu Xiao were some kind of terrifying monster.

"Um, will you still be paying with your card?" the salesperson asked tentatively. He wasn’t a fool; he’d seen that Lu Xiao had only taken out her card to provoke the arrogant and willful female in the red dress.

Now that the female in the red dress had left for some unknown reason, he naturally had to follow up.

But Lu Xiao just smiled. "Go ahead and charge it. I’m buying this car. And didn’t you mention a lottery drawing? Ares, you can go draw later. Maybe we’ll even get a buy-one-get-one-free."

"My luck..." Ares started to say his luck was bad, but when he met the young female’s glistening and hopeful eyes, he ended up nodding. "Alright, I’ll go draw."

Lu Xiao was instantly satisfied. She gently took Ares’s hand, interlacing their fingers, and whispered, "My Ares has the best luck!"

She didn’t try to hide the gesture, and it was so incredibly natural. The salesperson standing nearby felt his heart skip a beat, his eyes filling with envy.

Just from this brief interaction, he could tell their relationship was different from that of a typical female-led household.

This young female genuinely cared for the male by her side.

Realizing this, the salesperson couldn’t help but steal a few more glances at Ares.

Soon after the payment went through, the salesperson led the pair to the lottery counter. It wasn’t crowded; after all, the hovercar was expensive, priced at 18.88 million for a single vehicle.

When it was Ares’s turn to draw, three females had already gone before him. They were all a little surprised to suddenly see a male step up.

After all, for a chance like this, even the females themselves couldn’t guarantee a win. To let a male do the drawing—that young female must be crazy.

Many people looked at Lu Xiao with expressions full of doubt.

But in the next second, as Ares handed the slip of paper he had drawn to the salesperson, the man’s eyes widened in excitement. "Congratulations, sir! You’ve won our grand prize—the buy-one-get-one-free award!"

Ares paused, stunned for a moment. Then he felt a weight on his shoulders as Lu Xiao jumped up and threw her arms around his neck, exclaiming happily, "What did I tell you, Ares?! You have the best luck! HAHAHA!"

To make it easier for Lu Xiao to keep her arms around his neck, Ares had to bend down to meet her, a smile spreading across his lips. "Mm, my lady is right!"

The onlookers took in the couple’s intimate display, their eyes wide with shock.

Lu Xiao chose a gold-colored model for the second car, making for a matching pair with Ares’s silver one.

However, since it was a new model, the dealership had to have it transferred in, so they would have to wait a couple of days.

After leaving her address, Lu Xiao and Ares left the sales center and headed to the official residence selection office to choose a location for their Earl Mansion.

They might not actually live there even after choosing a spot, but a perk like this was too good to waste.

The residence selection office wasn’t crowded either. After all, it wasn’t every day that the Empire bestowed titles and rewards on people. Lu Xiao and Ares quickly picked a location, and the office would handle construction and renovation based on their preferences, notifying them upon completion.

Once everything was settled, Lu Xiao and Ares finally drove home.

What Lu Xiao didn’t know, however, was that the female in the red dress had gone home and told her best friend all about her encounter with Lu Xiao—with plenty of embellishments, of course.

But by the time word of this reached Lu Xiao, several days had already passed.

The hovercar dealership had said it would take at least three days for delivery, but in reality, Lu Xiao only had to wait a little over a day before two brand-new hovercars arrived.

Upon their arrival, Ares personally taught Lu Xiao how to start and operate a hovercar.

Once she learned, Lu Xiao took it for several spins in the air, absolutely thrilled.

The next day, Lu Xiao took her gleaming golden hovercar to the Fifth Research Institute. Before she left, though, Ares looked a little downcast.

She could tell what he was thinking at a glance. She hugged him and comforted him softly, "I’m just going to show off to Teacher Ai Li and the others today. How about you go back to driving me to and from places after this, okay?"

Ares knew she was just trying to placate him, but her concern was more than enough. He reached out and gently stroked her head. "You just learned to drive. It’s better for you to get more practice and become more proficient."

Knowing he had been placated, Lu Xiao didn’t press the issue. She just nodded and said, "You have a point. And now that I have a car, it’ll be much more convenient for me to visit you!"

"Visit," of course, meant driving to the Seventh Military District to see Ares.

Ares personally walked Lu Xiao to her car. "Contact me if you need anything."

"I know, I know, don’t worry. I remember everything you taught me. Besides, doesn’t this car have an intelligent operating system? I’ll be fine, don’t worry!"

Even so, Ares was still worried. He didn’t say anything more, but as Lu Xiao’s hovercar departed, he quietly followed her, escorting her all the way until she had landed safely in the parking lot of the Fifth Research Institute. Only then did he leave.

And when he landed his new, top-of-the-line silver hovercar in the Seventh Military District parking lot, he immediately became the center of attention.

When Admiral Kula Peng arrived for work and saw it, he made a special trip over to ask, "Whose silver hovercar is that in the parking lot? It’s so cool! Isn’t that the new ’Silver Falcon’ that just came out? It’s pretty expensive. Who was willing to splash out that much cash? Must be one of you bachelors with no family or partner, right?"

In his mind, only single males without families or partners would dare to spend that kind of money on themselves.

But Kevin immediately piped up, "Admiral Kula Peng, that’s a stereotype. Someone who’s settled down can buy one too. Like Major General Ares, for example."

Reminded like that, Admiral Kula Peng immediately understood, his eyes widening involuntarily. "What are you saying? That car is Major General Ares’s?"

With that, he walked straight to the door of Ares’s office, knocked, and went inside. "Ares, they’re saying that silver hovercar in the parking lot is yours?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

Ares looked at the admiral, who had clearly come running over just for this, and nodded. "It is. Is there a problem?"

"No way, it really is yours? Where did you get that kind of money? Don’t tell me Lady Lu Xiao is so nice she doesn’t even require you to turn over your assets?"

Kula Peng’s eyes were wide with utter disbelief.

Ares shook his head. "No. Lu Xiao bought the car for me. I didn’t spend any of my own money."

Ares’s expression was perfectly natural as he said this, as if he were merely commenting on the weather.

Kula Peng, however, felt a deep sense of regret for asking. It would have been better if Ares had just bought it with his own money!

For a female to take the initiative to buy something for her male was one thing. But to use her own money? And for something so valuable? She just bought it without a second thought!

Admiral Kula Peng stared at Ares for a long moment before turning and leaving without another word. He needed to go back and cool down. ’Maybe I should just block Major General Ares,’ he thought. ’He’s just too infuriating!’

But as the admiral turned to leave, the corners of Ares’s mouth curled up slightly.

’Heh. I got to show off again!’
