Healing a Fallen S-Rank Beastman: Everyone Fights Over the Little Female-Chapter 146: Rescue
After C Luo escorted Lu Xiao back to her room, he left. Lu Xiao couldn’t help but wonder, ’Did Fred get word of what just happened at the lab?’
She wasn’t too worried, though. She was confident Fred would find an opportunity to contact her.
She just needed to create the right opportunity.
In a place with no daylight, it was easy to lose track of time, which only made the anxiety worse.
Lu Xiao sat on her bed, replaying all of the day’s events in her mind.
Then, she suddenly doubled over, her face contorting in pain. She didn’t scream or cry out, knowing full well that whoever was monitoring her would notice something was amiss.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before C Luo’s voice sounded from outside again.
Lu Xiao, forcing herself to look as though she were enduring great discomfort, opened the door. She leaned against the frame and asked C Luo with a puzzled expression, "Did you need me for something?"
Seeing the young female still trying to put on a brave face, C Luo’s heart completely softened. "You don’t look well. Are you feeling sick?"
As if surprised by his question, Lu Xiao’s lips twitched into a weak smile. "It’s just an old ailment. It’ll pass if I endure it. But if you have any painkillers, I’d be very grateful."
’What kind of chronic ailment could make a young female’s face turn so pale it was almost translucent? Was there really no doctor "up there" who could cure it?’
"I’ll take you to a doctor. The doctors here are quite good; they can definitely help ease your symptoms!"
"Thank you, C Luo, but please don’t trouble yourself. This isn’t something a doctor can fix. Just easing the pain is enough."
"How can you know without even seeing one? I’m taking you. Forgive my boldness!" C Luo’s eyes grew red, his voice trembling uncontrollably as he swept Lu Xiao into his arms before she could refuse.
The sudden move startled Lu Xiao. ’Crap,’ she thought, ’did I push him too far?’
However, before C Luo could carry her far, an ear-splitting alarm suddenly blared. At the same instant, all the lights went out.
Plunged into sudden darkness, C Luo instinctively tightened his hold on Lu Xiao and reassured her, "Don’t be afraid. I’m here. I absolutely will not let anything happen to you!"
"I know." As she placated C Luo, Lu Xiao felt a surge of certainty. ’This has to be Fred’s people. This is the opportunity.’ "Put me down, C Luo. It’s not very comfortable being carried like this."
She felt C Luo’s body tremble slightly at her words before he gently set her down. "Can you still hold on?"
"I’m fine, C Luo." Lu Xiao steadied herself, her back flat against the wall. Her voice was calm as she continued, "C Luo, come a little closer so I can hold onto you. It’s... a little scary."
C Luo couldn’t bear to hear her say she was scared. Without a second thought, he agreed and held out his arm. "You can hold onto my arm."
"Okay. Thank you, C Luo. I know I’ve said it before, but meeting you here has been such a stroke of luck... Now, have a good sleep. When you wake up, I hope you won’t blame me for deceiving you." She plunged her purification power into C Luo’s body, striking directly at his Spirit Sea.
By the time C Luo sensed something was wrong, it was too late to react. His body went limp, and he collapsed to the floor.
Lu Xiao didn’t hesitate. Looking down at the unconscious C Luo, she whispered, "I’m sorry."
The alarms continued to blare, their shrill sound unceasing. Lu Xiao didn’t dare delay, worried she would miss this perfect opportunity.
Channeling purification power to her eyes enhanced her vision, allowing her to see in the dark and keep her bearings.
Even though C Luo had only shown her the way to the exit once, Lu Xiao had memorized the route.
The interior of the Black Tower immediately descended into chaos. No matter how careful she was, Lu Xiao still ran into mobilized Black Tower soldiers. After knocking out several of them using the same method she had on C Luo, she was finally found by Fred and his men.
Just as Fred and his men arrived, they witnessed Lu Xiao take down a Male Beastman much larger than herself.
The moment he fell, Lu Xiao’s face was an emotionless mask. It was only when she noticed Fred that a smile bloomed on her face. "Fred! I knew this was your chance!"
Fred concealed his shock and hurried forward. "Lady Lu Xiao, are you all right?"
"I’m fine. I’m great. Are we leaving now?"
"Yes. Our evac team will be here soon. We’re leaving right now."
Lu Xiao noticed two people with Fred; they had to be the teammates he’d mentioned earlier.
Lu Xiao breathed a sigh of relief, glad to see everyone was safe.
They instinctively formed a protective circle around Lu Xiao. Fred even offered, "If you don’t mind, I can carry you. That way..."
Before he could finish, Lu Xiao cut in, "Okay!"
She knew perfectly well that trying to keep up on her own would only slow them down. Every extra minute they spent here meant another minute of danger. Their top priority was to take advantage of the chaos and escape before a large number of enemy forces were mobilized.
Fred was relieved she agreed so readily. He bent over slightly. Hoisting the young female, who felt practically weightless to him, onto his back was no trouble at all.
Just then, the sounds of more and more footsteps echoed from downstairs, mixed with the mechanical whirring of operational mech suits.
"Vice Admiral, we need to move! The power will be back on in five minutes!"
Fred acknowledged. "Everyone, protect Lady Lu Xiao! Follow me and break through!"
Lu Xiao clung tightly to Fred’s back, doing her best not to be a burden.
"Stop! They’re over there!" someone yelled, and a thunder of footsteps immediately gave chase.
THUMP, THUMP. Lu Xiao had never known her heart could beat so fast.
The feeling of being inches from death washed over her once more.
She heard the deafening crack of gunfire.
The gate, symbolizing hope, was within reach yet seemed so far away. Suddenly, one of the men escorting her from behind was hit. The moment he fell, Lu Xiao’s pupils contracted violently...
BOOM!
The sealed doors were blasted open. Ares stood in the doorway, his expression murderous.
The moment he saw Lu Xiao on Fred’s back, Ares froze for an instant before charging inside at incredible speed.
The moment she saw Ares, Lu Xiao was stunned. For a second, she thought the stress was making her hallucinate. It wasn’t until he swept her into his arms and she felt a hot tear fall onto her collar that she knew it wasn’t a dream. Ares was really here.
Just when she felt closest to death, he had appeared like a god of war.
Reaching out, she wrapped her arms around Ares’s waist. "I missed you so much, Ares!"
