He who Bends Time-Chapter 62 - truth or not
Chapter 62: Chapter 62 - truth or not
Nick gulped down the water as if it was the last bit of water in the universe.
"So, who are they, where do they live, and I want everything you know about them," said Marian firmly as she also sat in front of him, looking directly into Nick’s eyes.
Nick put down the cup of water and took a calm breath, after which he raised his shallow voice.
"Actually, the truth is, I don’t know much either," said Nick, also checking Marian for any outburst—but surprisingly, she remained calm.
"Then tell me what you do know," she said.
"It wasn’t that I didn’t want to know more about them. As mysterious people that suddenly appeared out of nowhere, demanding to hire the bloody queen herself, I was curious about their origin too. So I tried to investigate who they were, where they came from, and especially what their intentions were in taking Malv Flower directly.
Aside from making brain declaration potions, Malv Flower isn’t known to do anything special. If it did, those bastards on Malv World would’ve already done it.
My guys did their job and managed to follow their trail, but just when we were about to uncover a few things, all of those under me disappeared. I was left with only one message:
’Do not interfere with the unknown darkness,’" said Nick.
"They almost killed all of my underlings. And eventually, they did—except for the weak ones. All the others disappeared, which I eventually confirmed were killed by them," he added.
"So that’s why there isn’t anyone strong with you for protection. I was wondering where the two warriors who were always with you went. Are they dead too?" Marian asked, to which Nick nodded his head in pity.
"It’s a shame. Those two were like my brothers," muttered Nick.
"And you just let their deaths be in vain?" said Marian mockingly.
Hearing her, Nick lifted his head, and a smirk appeared on his face.
"After their death, I worked alone. And although it wasn’t much, I managed to find out that they are related to the Third Watchtower guarding the kingdom. Apparently, when they came to this world through the teleportation circle, the first place they went to was the Third Watchtower. That place also happens to be where records are kept of those who travel through the teleportation circle.
Not much surprisingly, the record of where those mysterious guys came from was completely unavailable—no matter how much I tried. Which is why I suspect someone in that tower must be helping them or at least related to them. And that someone must be a figure of high authority in the tower—someone with enough power to erase those records," said Nick.
After hearing him, Marian fell into thought.
"Let me tell you again, even my most powerful guys died trying to follow their trail. And those two warriors I mentioned—if they teamed up, they could easily take you down. But they also died. Are you really sure you want to pursue them? ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
They may have betrayed you, yes, but at least you’re still alive. If you try to go after them, you’ll definitely die. From the time I spent studying their movements and way of operating, I can tell those people aren’t some random group of thieves," said Nick.
Hearing him, Marian suddenly broke her silence, as if she had just heard something suspicious.
"How did you know I was betrayed? I never told you that," she asked.
Only then did Nick realize he had said something he shouldn’t have.
"Well, nothing changes even if you know it now," he muttered with a sigh, then continued.
"After you disappeared, I did a bit of investigating into what happened to you and found out that you got captured by those Malv World bastards," he said.
"You sly bastard. So you must be the one who created those fakes of mine that I kept hearing about," asked Marian, to which Nick smiled.
Thud!
A well-expected strike to the stomach landed on Nick, and he exclaimed in pain.
After getting the information, Marian stood up, but Nick still spoke despite the pain.
"What are you going to do with me now?" he asked. "Obviously, you’re not going to kill me, right? Who knows whether the information I gave is true or not? Maybe I’m lying, but only I know the truth," he added.
"You don’t have to worry. I won’t kill you—for now at least. Whether you told the truth or not, I will confirm it myself," said Marian before walking out from the underground chamber.
Watching her pass through the door, Nick sighed.
"Damn bitch, how the hell did she manage to escape from the federal prison in Malv Flower World...
Anyway, there isn’t much value left for her to get from me since I already told her all I know, but I should at least bluff to survive," he muttered.
But after a moment, his eyes suddenly widened.
"Crap, I forgot she said she has that ability..."
In a corridor of the Blessing Crystal Mansion, Marian walked while thinking.
"Not a single word he said was a lie, which means the Third Watch Tower should indeed be related to this matter. A figure that can erase a complete record of a teleportation... I can think of only one person in that tower who could do something like that."
While walking, she suddenly stopped at a turning point of the corridor. From there, she gazed at one of the rooms in the distance.
"I’m very tempted to ask for his assistance, but knowing the guy, he wouldn’t do anything for free. And most of all... I’m not confident enough to disturb him when he already said not to."
With a heavy sigh, Marian turned and walked away.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
On the street, Henry was walking slowly while pondering.
"Should I jump down from the edge of the circle? Maybe the wind will blow and carry me to the Blessing Crystal... but there’s also a chance the wind won’t blow, and I’ll die from the fall."
