Chapter 443: Chapter 443.Nephew Kailen?

"How did you know that?"

Arnold’s surprised response gave Kailen the answer he needed.

The group was equally curious.

Did Kailen know this Lawrence guy or something?

And if he didn’t, how was he able to figure out the guy’s hair color when he had not even met him before?

Instead of satisfying their curiosity, Kailen looked at Arnold seriously.

"I need to meet this guy in the virtual universe. If you have a way of contacting him for me, kindly do so, and let him have the coordinates of this villa."

"Will get to it as soon as possible."

"Thanks, Arnold." Kailen nodded, then looked at the rest of the group.

"Will update you guys on the outcome of the meeting the next time we meet here."

Everyone nodded to his words and bid him goodbye, disappearing into the real world to go about their unit tasks.

Kailen sat in the hall of the villa, thoughts churning.

"If this guy is who I think he is, then that means I am sort of royal, huh.

And most importantly, I have a whole bunch of relatives.

Now the question is, why did mum never make mention of her father, mother, or other relatives, but only this Lawrence Clover?

Something is definitely off. But I will get my answers when we meet."

As Kailen was in his musings, a figure rung the doorbell of the villa.

Kailen could perceive the individual with his perception.

The figure was a young man with a lean athletic build.

He was tall, had velvet hair, and radiated an aura of restrained strength.

One could, however, notice an anxious expression on his face.

But it was as if he was anticipating meeting someone.

"He’s definitely my relative.

The expression on his face is very affectionate, like he wants to meet someone.

I really don’t know how to feel about this whole meeting, but I will decide how to handle my relationship with him after hearing what he has to say.

Thanks to emotional resonance and Detective’s Gimmick, no one can lie to me."

Kailen simply used his shadow affinity.

A hand made of shadows swiftly flew towards the doorbell and opened the door.

After this, he sat calmly in the living room, as Lawrence entered the hall.

The moment his eyes landed on Kailen, to Kailen’s unexpected shock, a tear fell from the eyes of the young man.

Kailen knew the fellow was being sincere.

These were not false tears, or an attempt to deceive him emotionally.

He had emotional resonance after all.

The man’s emotions were all over his face—sadness, warmth, happiness, relief—all bundled up together.

"Nephew Kailen?" Lawrence knew this was his nephew.

He looked just like his mother.

His nose and his jawline were similar to his mother’s, except that Kailen’s jawline was quite masculine, probably courtesy of his father’s genes.

Kailen was completely shocked.

For someone who could really handle his emotions very well, although he looked calm on the surface, his emotions were extremely complex at the moment.

This fellow’s emotions gave it all away.

He was not here on business to harm Kailen.

He was not here on business to try to manipulate Kailen emotionally.

He genuinely felt happy to see Kailen.

"But still, I can’t jump to conclusions.

Let’s get to know him first," he mused inwardly.

"Uncle Lawrence, right?

Please, you are making me feel embarrassed with those tears."

Kailen attempted to lighten the awkward mood with a joke.

It worked perfectly.

Lawrence smiled, the tears vanishing from his face completely.

"Heh, a good sense of humor, just like sister."

"He really is my uncle, and it seems he had a good relationship with mother," Kailen mused inwardly, observant.

The Time Dilation Artifact was observing everything with intrigue on her face from the shadow expanse, alongside the shadow creatures.

"Please, sit."

Lawrence nodded.

"Coffee?"

"Thanks, I’m allergic to coffee."

Kailen’s eyes widened slightly, but resumed their calm.

Lawrence nodded, on seeing the slight change of expression in Kailen’s eyes.

"Yeah, your mum was allergic to coffee too. I know.

Anyways, I am sure you have questions; I have all the time."

Kailen simply nodded.

"Who was my mother really?

I perfectly understand by now that she’s from the royal family of the Arman Empire, but who was she?"

Lawrence expected the question.

He replied,

"She was the only daughter of Emperor Auctevius Clover, my father, the emperor of the Arman Empire, the Empire of Desert and Sands."

Kailen’s eyes revealed a trace of shock for a moment after his deduction that his mother was a princess.

Lawrence noticed his nephew’s reaction.

He had not expected an exaggerated reaction from Kailen, as he knew the young man was not an ordinary youngster, and had an extremely calm composure.

But he knew Kailen was shocked from the expression in his nephew’s eyes, which disappeared as soon as it appeared.

"His composure and calmness is more terrifying than that of his mother.

Anyway, I should tell him everything about the family and let him know his grandfather’s intentions of seeing him.

From what I’ve observed about him on seeing him, I don’t think he’s someone who will be willing to meet his grandfather," Lawrence mused inwardly, then proceeded to tell Kailen about his mother, several aspects of his sister, and their childhood growing up, and what had ultimately led her to leaving the empire for the Astral Empire, the Emperor’s cold stance during the attack on Kailen’s parents; and how he had even decided to not attend the funeral held in the Arman Empire to honor Kailen’s mother.

He also went on to mention Auctevius’ desire to meet with Kailen.

Kailen was boiling with rage inwardly, yet he was calm on the surface.

The killing intent pouring from his eyes was extremely daunting.

"This kid is pissed off.

Got to admit though, his maternal grandfather is a jackass," the Time Dilation Artifact mused to herself, and the shadow creatures all shared the same sentiment.

They were extremely mad at the moment.

As for Kailen, he sighed calmly, as the killing intent disappeared, but Lawrence knew his nephew was just controlling his emotions.

"So," Kailen said,

"If I get you right, uncle, my paternal grandfather is a complete douchebag, who does not give a fuck about his daughter and his family, to the point that he was ready to marry his daughter off to some prince from the Vatican Empire, and when she expressed her desire to not marry someone she didn’t love, he didn’t honor his daughter’s wish, even to the point of threatening her that if she didn’t agree to the marriage and rebelled, she would no longer be considered his daughter?

Not only that, he remained completely unmoved, and decided not to intervene when my mother was almost murdered by Cyrus Darkhaven after she left the Arman Empire, kept her identity hidden and married my father because of his pride, and didn’t even attend her funeral, and now... the motherfucker wants to see me?"

Lawrence nodded, feeling each of his nephew’s words completely chilly to the bone.

"Exactly."

Kailen chuckled madly.

His paternal grandfather was the most shameless and egotistical person in the universe.

Kailen didn’t see himself as a good person, but he knew that family and friends were very important to him and he would always prioritize them.

To think his grandfather was the complete opposite, however, honestly disgusted him.

"Uncle, thanks for coming," Kailen said, reclining softly into the sofa.

"But tell the Emperor to fuck off.

I don’t need his affection, I don’t need his love, and I don’t need his name."

Lawrence nodded.

This was the response he was expecting.

He said,

"Actually, apart from coming here to meet you, nephew, that response you just gave is actually the other reason why I came here."

"You came here to convince me not to go see him?"

"Yeah.

But after meeting you, I realized I just needed to tell you everything that happened, and you would make the right decision on your own."

"Thanks, uncle."

"It was only necessary.

My old man is an extremely selfish and terrible person.

Sometimes I really pity my mum.

You know, royalty and all these arranged marriages.

She’s not happy being with him, but she has a responsibility to the people as the empress."

"Which woman would be happy with someone like that?" Kailen took a sip of his coffee, legs crossed.

"I hope he won’t give you issues when you return, and tell him that I didn’t agree to come see him?"

"Actually, there’s a third reason why I came here, and I have a feeling that for some reason, you already figured it out."

A slight smile tugged at the edge of Kailen’s lips, as he replied,

"You don’t plan on going back, do you?"

"I don’t," Lawrence replied.

"I’m now a private, a recruit of the Astral Empire military at the Frontlines.

I can only return when I’m discharged of my duties, and I don’t plan on being discharged."

"You mean..."

"Yes, nephew.

I plan on climbing through the military ranks of the Astral Empire, and serving in the military here permanently.

Your grandmother is already aware.

The only person who is still left in the dark is the old douche, who thinks I came here to get you to come see him."

Kailen nodded, and layered on Lawrence’s thoughts.

"As long as you are the property of the military, you are protected by the military laws of Universe Alliance, and he cannot threaten your safety in any way, even if he wanted to."

"Exactly. Sharp as they say, nephew."
