Chapter 659 – You Have my Attention

Vincent turned.

And the room shifted.

No spell. No flare. No spotlight needed. Just a man stepping out from the swarm of cameras like he owned the building, the economy, and the air you were breathing.

And maybe he did.

Because there, in the middle of the reporters and camera flashes, stood the real Lux Vaelthorn.

He didn’t need a spotlight.

But the second he walked in, it found him anyway. Like gravity bowed in apology for letting someone else pretend to be him for even a second.

He was dressed in clean, razor-cut black. Not scandalous. No shiny embellishments or overcompensating brand logos. No ridiculous buckle stuffed down his pants. Just sleek tailored fabric that whispered money, power, and precision with every stitch. The collar open just enough to make people wonder what it would cost to get closer.

His hair was slightly tousled like he hadn’t tried, but of course he had. Shoes buffed to an obsidian shine. Sleeves rolled just so. Everything about him said ’I came here bored. But now? You have my attention.’

And the aura.

That was what shut the whole room up.

The real Lux didn’t project arrogance like Vincent did. He didn’t need to puff his chest or smirk too early. His presence settled over the crowd like a glass wall. Smooth. Cold. Uncrossable.

The kind of aura that made rich men straighten their ties and powerful women lick their teeth and think, ’f*ck, I want to own him or be owned by him.’

He climbed the stage stairs like it was his runway.

Mira stood still, arms folded, one brow slightly lifted like she’d just remembered she really liked him in suits. The crowd began to murmur. No... erupt.

"That’s him."

"That’s the real one."

"Oh my gods—"

"Wait, then who—"

Lux walked to the center of the stage, eyes sharp, shoulders relaxed. And he stood face to face with Vincent, who looked like a tuxedo wrapped deer in headlights.

Lux gave him a once-over.

Up.

Down.

Slow.

Like he was trying to decide if this thing in front of him was even human, or just someone’s very sad tax write-off.

Then his lips curled.

"You’re pretending to be me." His voice was low. Smooth. And laced with that same subtle threat you hear in contracts you didn’t read carefully enough.

"It’s been what... a week?"

He tilted his head slightly.

"Are you having fun? Huh?"

He smirked.

And said it loud enough for everyone to hear...

"Vincent Albrecht."

Vincent’s soul left his body.

A gasp rippled through the crowd like a slap. Some people backed up. Others leaned in. Reporters nearly stumbled over each other trying to hit record.

Mira’s eyes lit up like a bonfire. "Ohhh," she drawled, tapping her chin. "That’s why you looked familiar."

She turned to the crowd and waved a finger lazily. "I made him kneel once. At a gala. Very satisfying."

Laughter echoed.

Vincent’s face drained of all color.

"You— That’s not— That wasn’t—"

"Oh please," Mira cut in, laughing. "So that’s why you tried to hit on me tonight? Revenge?"

"I didn’t—" Vincent stammered. "It wasn’t like that—"

The cameras zoomed. The flashes resumed. Reporters shouted his name.

"Mr. Albrecht, is this true?"

"How long have you been impersonating Lux Vaelthorn?"

"Did you use his name in legal contracts?"

"Were there women involved?"

"Were there multiple?"

Vincent tried to step back.

But the guards were still there.

Lux didn’t move. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Just stood, centered, amused, arms loose at his sides like he had all night.

"I didn’t do anything criminal," Vincent said suddenly. "I didn’t steal money. I didn’t sign contracts. I just... I just walked around. Had a few drinks. Talked to people. It’s not illegal."

Lux blinked slowly. "You slept with a lot of women."

"That’s not a crime."

"You used my name," Lux said, stepping closer. "And lied to them. You took my reputation, my brand, and you shoved it down your pants with a sock and a belt buckle."

More gasps. Some people giggled.

Mira coughed politely behind her fingers.

Lux’s smile thinned. "And you’re telling me that’s not a problem?"

"I— I just wanted to have a little fun," Vincent muttered. "No one got hurt."

"Oh," Lux’s voice dropped, cold and low and deadly, "so as long as you get to have your little fun, there’s no need to take accountability."

Vincent opened his mouth...

Lux raised a hand. "Do you want me to list the names? Of the women you touched? Lied to? Convinced you were me?"

He leaned in, voice so quiet it silenced the entire stage. "You don’t even know what kind of lawsuits are waiting."

"I didn’t—"

"Are you even insured for defamation? Emotional damage? Hell, you drugged yourself into a fantasy and dragged everyone else in with you."

Vincent stepped back again, desperate. "I didn’t sign anything! I didn’t leave any trace—!"

Mira laughed. "Oh honey, you left plenty of traces."

Vincent’s eyes darted, sweat beginning to break at his temple.

Cameras exploded with flashes.

Reporters screamed.

Security guards closed in.

People murmured legal terms they barely understood.

But Vincent was stuck.

Rooted.

Like he’d just realized the hole was far deeper than he thought.

Mira stepped forward, mock-sympathetic, like a queen offering a flower right before the execution. "You should’ve picked someone else to impersonate."

"Yeah," Lux added, brushing invisible dust from his shoulder with the kind of calm only someone truly dangerous could pull off. "Pick someone who isn’t me."

And then...

That glint.

It flashed across Lux’s eyes, fast and quiet. A shimmer of blood-red that barely touched the whites of his irises, like a sunbeam through wine. It wasn’t flashy. It wasn’t glowing or theatrical. But Mira saw it.

And she shivered.

Because she knew what it meant.

She’d seen that glint before.

When Lux wasn’t CFO. Wasn’t celebrity. Wasn’t heir of anything.

Just him.

The son of Greed and Lust.

The real thing.

And for the first time since Lux had entered the gala, Mira’s heart did something rare...

It skipped.
