Chapter 49: 49. Demon King Takes up an Unnatural Challenge... Starts to Prepare!

Their night of passion lingered a little bit more, with the hooting of the owl marking the dead of night.

Alicia had drifted into a deep sleep, resting her head quietly and sleeping soundly on her son’s bare chest.

She was so peaceful and calm, something that she had long forgotten how it felt.

Meanwhile, Aaron couldn’t sleep.

His face was full of grimace and gnashing of teeth. Aaron put a hand on his forehead and rubbed it to soothe the terrible ache that he was feeling.

"What is this headache!" he uttered with a pronounced frown.

It was as though people pounded something inside of his head. It was so bad that he had to squint his eyes, and eventually shut his eyes tightly, to gain some relief.

Aaron sighed loudly out of frustration and gently shifted his mother’s body to the side, allowing her to sleep on another side of the bed while covering her up with the bed sheet.

He sat up and rubbed his forehead again while managing to look around the room, thinking of his next action.

Suddenly, he felt an even more painful bout of the pain inside his head.

"Ah!" he cried out with a sharp voice but eventually stopped himself from shouting so loudly, so as not to wake his mother.

Alicia muttered some words in her sleep and turned about on the bed but finally came to rest, returning to her deep slumber.

Aaron involuntarily shut his eyes and gritted his teeth.

"Tch. What’s happening?"

He bent his head, supporting his face with his hands as he tensed the muscles of his face.

After about five good minutes of enduring through the endless pangs of pain, Aaron tried to get up and leave but he found himself dropping back on the bed.

The world inside the room spun so sharply that he lost his balance.

He sat back on the bed and blinked several times, trying to clear his eyes and head.

He glanced at his mother and then turned away to face forward, doing this same thing two more times.

"What is going on?" he wondered.

In the moment that he was lost in thought, trying to figure out what was wrong with him, an image flashed through his mind.

In the beginning, it was just one image of himself and his mother.

Then, another.

And another after that.

Many more coming after the first three.

The terrible part of it was that each image carried a tinge of pain that was stronger with the next one.

The surge of images harassed Aaron’s brain so much that he fell with his knees to the ground and face bowed to the floor.

"Ah!" he scowled, holding his head strongly as if he wanted to stop it from exploding.

Aaron turned on the floor and for a brief moment, his breath ceased.

He felt an air of quietness clothe him.

Aaron experienced something akin to death but for a short period.

And after several minutes of mental torture, it suddenly stopped, just as it had suddenly started.

It stopped abruptly, the pain vanishing along with the images.

He didn’t see any flashes anymore and he felt normal again.

He was breathing noisily where he lay on the floor and gazed at the ceiling.

"This body has experienced sadness," Aaron stated after what he had experienced and this time, he was talking as the Demon King, and he was talking about the body he inhabited — the body of Aaron Winters.

"Such darkness. Little wonder, he tried to kill himself that fateful day. Tsk! Fucking Stream of Life! Hahaha!"

Aaron laughed maniacally.

"That’s right. It’s making a little sense now. You wanted me to die along with this boy’s body on that day, right? Right!"

He sat up from the cold floor, his face still wearing a crazed grin.

The Demon King looked toward the ceiling, his golden gaze piercing right through it to reach the dark clouds in the sky and even past them toward the realms beyond.

"You wished to kill me that day, in my lowest state. In my state of weakness. How petty! Hahaha! And I’m the evil one... the terrible one?"

Aaron scoffed and spat to the side.

"Don’t make me laugh. You are pathetic!"

Half of Aaron’s body had turned red and his eyes were golden in colour at the moment as he addressed a presence that was not existing in the room with him.

He had gotten hold of a sizable chunk of the real Aaron Winters’ life experiences through Alicia’s memories.

Sexual intercourse allowed him access to a person’s very being and as such he could assess even events of their past and much of Alicia’s memories involved Aaron and much more.

Aaron facepalmed and chucked.

After a few minutes, he returned to looking like the normal Aaron as he spared one last glance at the ceiling.

"I will do to this world what I did to the others. I will rule over it, just to spite you."

Aaron took some steps forward and pointed at the ceiling

"Yes! That’s a challenge. Do the worst you can."

As Aaron spoke, the air inside the room became dense. The energy he ousted from his body was enough to create so much tension that even Alicia grew restless in her sleep.

"I dare you!"

The curtains of the room billowed strongly to the violence of the wind that invaded the room through the windows.

The windows flapped loudly akin to how it would in a downpour in the peak of the rainy season.

It was all Aaron and after a few seconds, he calmed down.

The atmosphere of the room calmed along with him.

The air was more breathable and the curtains rested and straightened.

Once again, everywhere was peaceful.

Aaron returned to bed and lay beside his mother, his arms going over her torso. Alicia held his hand and they cuddled through the night.

Even as she slept soundly in his warm embrace of a cuddle, Aaron still found it hard to sleep.

The memories he had just received were what kept him awake.

Now, more than ever, he wanted to know who the real Aaron was. The memories had piqued his interest in finding out everything he could about the real Aaron Winters.

It was going to be a long journey but the Demon King feared what it might cost him if he didn’t do so.

He had just declared war on them — beings that exist beyond the comprehension of the mortals in this world — and he needed to be prepared for whatever may come.

Knowing more about Aaron and acquiring his complete and true memories was a crucial step in his preparation.
