Harem Legion: Queens of the Apocalypse-Chapter 27 Inventory of the Apocalypse
"What? You’re telling me seven punks killed six of your people?"
Magnus’s fury exploded. He grabbed Sophia by the collar and hauled her off the ground. "Why? Why the hell did you split into two teams?"
"Magnus!"
"Magnus, please..."
Emily and Sarah, along with the other women who’d gone out with Sophia, rushed in to pull him back.
"Magnus, our captain just wanted to finish the mission faster..."
One of the women tried to speak up for Sophia.
Meanwhile, Grace had just come over to reunite with her sister but was completely thrown. She’d always thought Magnus was Sophia’s subordinate, but now... it looked like the opposite.
But that couldn’t be. Her sister was a Female Special Forces Unit commander.
The two had never been close, but in moments like this, blood was thicker than water.
With a flash, Grace darted between them and shoved Magnus hard. Her round eyes glared at him as she shouted, "Who gave you the right to treat my sister like that? And here I thought you were one of the good guys!"
"Grace!"
As soon as Sophia hit the ground, her eyes locked on her sister. Tears welled up at once as she threw her arms around Grace and whispered, voice shaky, "Grace... it’s really you... when did you get here?"
"I..."
Grace sniffed, eyes reddening too, then shot Magnus a glare. "That guy that just bullied you - he rescued me. Said it was your idea..."
"He..."
Sophia turned to look at Magnus, her expression unreadable. But his face was still dark with anger. She knew this was her fault. No excuse.
In the army, this kind of blunder would mean immediate discharge.
"Magnus, our captain knows it was her mistake," one woman said, pleading. "She tried to make it right today."
"Make it right?" Magnus snapped. "What achievement pays for six lives?"
"We only took one truck," the woman continued quickly. "We packed it full with medical supplies. Then we took a detour to the eastern highway. Found a sleeper bus and even a 20-ton fuel tanker filled to the top. They’re all parked outside now..."
"And a beer truck too!" another chimed in. "We found a medium box truck just sitting there, packed with beer. Most likely meant for Clearridge County."
Magnus didn’t respond. Just grunted coldly and walked back into the sleeper bus, face like thunder.
Yeah, the haul was good - two full loads of meds, a sleeper bus, a full tanker, a truckload of beer. Not stuff you see every day.
But to Magnus, none of it could replace what was lost.
The Ice Regiment had never written it down, but every member knew:
Lives come first. Always.
Maybe Emberleaf Legion would call that trade a win, a smart sacrifice.
But not the Ice Regiment.
Never. This was what made the Ice Regiment so tightly bonded.
By dusk, all teams had returned to the temporary base at the freight station. Liana was in charge of roughly sorting the supplies.
Luxe’s team brought back three full-tank fire trucks. Chloe’s team came back with one sleeper bus and three regular long-distance buses on their first trip, and an additional sleeper bus the second time.
In total: 3 full-tank fire trucks, 2 sleeper buses, 3 regular long-distance buses.
Emily’s team returned with 15 refrigerated trucks of various sizes - 13 packed with all kinds of fresh meat, 2 loaded with fruits and vegetables.
Charlotte’s team found five truckloads of bottled water - nearly a thousand cases.
Liana’s own team found two 20-ton oil tankers in the morning, one fully loaded. They went out again in the afternoon, but came back empty.
Sophia’s team came back with two trucks full of assorted medical supplies, one fuel-filled oil tanker, a beer truck, and a sleeper bus.
Finally, Magnus’s squad brought back ten box trucks - seven and a half truckloads of food from supermarkets, daily necessities, and battle supplies, and another two and a half of rice, flour, and cooking oil.
The combat supplies included: 25 automatic rifles with 78 magazines, 33 fully automatic pistols with 137 magazines, 62 grenades, 35 combat knives, and 4 flamethrowers.
Casualties totaled 8 people - 6 from Sophia’s group, 1 from Luxe’s team, and 1 from Liana’s.
New people: 12 newcomers - Grace, Daisy’s mother, and Grace’s 10 female students.
Meanwhile, Caroline’s squad, which stayed at base, found four distribution centers near the Zero Mile Base. They recovered 3 box trucks and enough food and daily supplies to fill five more trucks.
They also found 21 brand-new off-road BMWs, Mercedes, Audis, and Land Rovers combined.
By 8 p.m., after a full day’s grind, the team deserved a solid meal. With 249 people now in the camp, including 79 Awakened, Magnus told Liana to bring from the reefer trucks one fully cleaned pig and two goats. Pork stew, grilled mutton, plenty of rice, and beer - all you could drink.
Magnus lit a cigarette, staring at the simple supply sheet Liana gave him, thoughts running.
They used to worry about having no supplies. Now that they had a mountain of gear, it was becoming a new headache. Just the vehicles alone were tricky.
The list showed: 2 civilian Humvees, 24 box trucks, 21 off-roaders, 3 full-tank fire trucks, 11 sleeper buses, 6 regular buses, 5 large (20-ton) oil tankers, and 2 small (5-ton) ones.
If they kept all of them, they’d need 74 drivers. With only 249 people total, could they spare almost a quarter of their force just for driving? And that wasn’t even counting the reefer trucks from Emily’s team...
But scrapping vehicles didn’t feel right either.
The only ones Magnus could remotely consider dropping were the 21 brand-new off-roaders.
Still, those had their merits - scouting, patrols, guarding. Especially once they left the city, they’d come in handy.
After all, you don’t send a sleeper bus just to grab a chunk of meteorite.
Whatever the case, they’d first convert the vehicles. They needed a new temporary base outside the city anyway tomorrow, so they could just park everything there.
Having made up his mind, Magnus stood up to find Charlotte. But before he could take a step, Taylor came running from another direction.
"Magnus, come quick - something’s happened!"
