Harem Legion: Queens of the Apocalypse-Chapter 22 Saving the Ice Dancer
The SUV slammed through the glass doors of Century Tower without hesitation. Magnus floored the pedal and crashed right in.
He jumped out fast, grabbed two shovels and torches from the roof rack. He was in a real hurry - not because he didn’t want to come sooner, but the convoy had just gotten lost.
Still, maybe he wasn’t too late. In his last life, he vaguely remembered running into Grace’s car outside Century Tower with Emily, but that was nine months ago. Forget remembering the time - he was lucky to recall the place.
But which floor was Grace’s dance studio on? Magnus had no clue; he’d never gone there before. So he did it the dumbest way possible - floor by floor.
The building had fewer centipedes, but tons of spiders. Giant webs stretched everywhere, some several meters wide. Moving fast wasn’t an option. He had to clear webs with fire, kill spiders, and yell her name all the way.
Finally on the third floor, he heard a scream. Female. Immediately he broke into a sprint toward the sound.
Then - bang!
A massive crash followed by a wall collapsing and a woman screaming in terror.
"Grace!!"
He shouted her name and ran full tilt toward the noise.
"Damn it! A rat beast!"
When he reached the room, he saw a tail as thick as his waist - then the beast’s body, as big as a car.
Good thing the corridor wasn’t wide enough for it to move freely. The crashing sound just now came from it slamming into a wall and busting through. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Magnus charged through the busted wall and swung his torch-shovel hard on that thick tail. The beast shrieked, tail whipping wildly. Then it flung a woman into the ceiling, letting out an ear-piercing screech when it spotted Magnus. Its blood-red eyes locked onto him, and it lunged.
But its bulk made turning awkward. It slammed into a table mid-charge, howling again. Magnus didn’t waste a beat - he ditched one torch-shovel, leapt into the air, and with both hands, drove the remaining one deep into the beast’s neck.
Direct hit to the artery. Blood sprayed like a fountain. The beast thrashed madly, crashing into walls, smashing a massive hole into the next room.
More screams cried out - women again.
Grace!
Through the smashed wall, Magnus spotted her immediately.
Five minutes later, after checking again and again that the rat beast was dead for sure, he exhaled deeply and crawled into the next room.
He glanced around. Besides Grace, there were another twelve women, ranging from mid-20s to their 40s.
Weird. In his last life, he remembered Grace being alone in a car - no one else around.
Could it be... this time he came earlier, and saved everyone along with her?
Magnus was a mess - drenched head to toe in rat blood, looking more like a blood-soaked ghost than a man. With his safety helmet on, no one could really see his face. So when he crawled in through the hole in the wall, even though the women inside realized he’d come to save them, all thirteen huddled in the corner, too scared to move.
He pulled off the helmet, glanced at the window glass, and muttered inwardly - at least these women had some brains, knowing to block the windows. Then his eyes swept across the group cowering like scared hens, finally resting on Grace. She was the only one calm.
Magnus let out a silent sigh. Nine months they’d lived together in the last life, but now he had to pretend they were strangers.
"You’re Grace, right?" he asked, stepping forward.
"You know me?" she replied, surprised. The man didn’t come off like a threat.
Magnus sighed again, rubbing the back of his neck. "I know your sister, Sophia."
What kind of joke was this? He saw the sister and had to say he knew the other. It never ended.
"You know my sister?" Grace’s eyes widened. "Then who are you? Her boyfriend or something?"
Boyfriend? Hell no. With her sister’s temper? Last time, he only got the upper hand by ambush. If they fought again, he wouldn’t bet on winning. And if Sophia had a gun? Forget it. She was a rare speed-type Awakened and the commander of the Female Special Forces Unit.
"She and I are teammates now. I’m here to get you out," Magnus said vaguely, pulling off his backpack. He handed her a motorcycle outfit and another helmet. "Put this on. We’re leaving."
Grace stared at him, hesitant. Following a strange man out into the apocalypse? Her gut wasn’t sure.
What if he’s lying? Everyone knows I have a twin - he could be bluffing...
In the last life, Grace was cold, like Sophia - hardened by nine months in the apocalypse. But now? She was still the yoga instructor, not yet broken by survival.
Magnus was done with this charade. Someone who’d been like family staring at him like a stranger - it wore on him. He growled, "I don’t have time to talk circles with you. If you wanna stay here and wait to die with them, go ahead. Got it?"
"I... huh?" Grace blinked, shaken. "Wait, you’re not taking them? They’re my students! You can’t just leave them!"
"Your students?" Magnus glanced behind her at the twelve women. Looked more like corporate types to him. Most of them seemed older than her.
"Yeah! They come to me for yoga. If you won’t take them, I’m staying too!"
Now that ticked him off. It wasn’t about the extra people - his team needed more anyhow. What pissed him off was her attitude. This wasn’t the Grace he knew. The one from last time wouldn’t have pulled this.
"Fine! They can all come. Just change, now! Don’t push it!" Magnus gritted his teeth and snapped.
"So what are you still standing there for?" Grace suddenly shot back.
Magnus paused. "What did you just say?"
