Chapter 138: Chapter 138 Sisters Wanted More Than His Bed

Jobs? Magnus flipped to the last page of the notebook, curiosity flickering in his eyes...

Thirty-four female doctors, all sorts of specialties... Then near the bottom, something caught Magnus’ attention: three of them were listed as psychologists.

Psychologists - perfect. He was going to need a serious chat with them about that whole "girls falling for girls" trend in the team and whether they had any methods to handle it.

Six women who’d worked in auto repair shops. Female mechanics - now that was rare. Every one of them was a gem.

He kept going...

Five with knowledge of electricity, seven who understood architecture and renovation, thirty-three who could cook. And the last group - thirty-two pharmacists.

Pharmacists? That made Magnus’ heart jump a beat. He immediately turned to Liana.

"Any of the pharmacists say they can make antidotes yet?"

"Huh?" Liana blinked, eyes widening in surprise. "You already know? Heh, yeah, shocking even for me. A dozen or more of them claimed they used to make antidotes in their old squads. Said they actually worked, too. I don’t know if it’s true, so I’ve got them all testing things out. Just waiting to see if these concoctions actually do anything."

Most of the water nowadays was tainted by centipedes and spiders. Short-term, it didn’t seem like much, but after a week or so, people started showing poisoning symptoms. The Awakened fared a bit better.

Even using that water to bathe could be a problem. People’s skin broke out with rashes, red spots - it covered the basics of every damn allergic reaction.

In his last life, Magnus hadn’t had any pharmacists on his team. He’d only heard rumors - that some could make real antidotes - but never saw results with his own eyes.

He snapped the notebook shut and pushed the gear talk aside. Back in the RV, they shifted their focus to the military threats from the Ridgebreak Battalion and Cliff’s men.

"Springvale City’s about 200 kilometers out; Ridgehaven City’s 80. One’s southeast, the other northwest," Magnus said, pointing at the map. "These two highways here - look close. The villages along both highways have already been taken. Whether it’s Cliff’s lot or Ridgebreak, if they plan to move in on us, these roads are their only way through."

He tapped a route for emphasis. "I think Baxter’s quiet for now. Short term, he probably won’t start anything. But Ridgebreak? Too quiet. They might be scared - or maybe they’re plotting."

"Magnus," Liana said hesitantly, "do you think Ridgebreak really has 80,000 men?"

Charlotte cut in, "Maybe. Could be 80,000, but their guns? I bet not more than 8,000 firearms. And who knows about the ammo. Guns I’m not worried about. What bothers me is if they’ve got heavy weapons."

"Heavy weapons?" Emily asked, brows shooting up. "They have heavy gear?"

This time, Sophia beat Charlotte to the punch, answering quickly, "Plenty. Infantry carriers, tanks, rocket launchers, mortars - we’ve seen those. But honestly, those are on the weaker side. Sure, they’re not Horizon Division, but they’ve got anti-tank missiles, short-range vehicle-mounted missiles, howitzers... They’ve got more than enough firepower."

"So what do we do then?" Liana asked, her voice uneasy.

"That’s something Magnus should answer," Charlotte added, glancing at Magnus. "That wood you’ve got with blue fire - what exactly is it? Every time we ask, you give us a different answer."

"That’s a Nature Crystal," Magnus said plainly this time. "Earlier, you all asked how I could control the flow of Water Crystals and even shut them down, right?"

"Yeah! How’d you manage that?" Sophia asked quickly.

"That’s just one of my personal skills," he replied, unsure how to explain it in simpler terms. "I can shut down any kind of Crystal. You’ve seen that. Nature Crystals work the same. Once lit, they’ll burn through steel, vehicles, tanks - no problem. But things like cement, or houses? Doesn’t work. I tried it a few times."

"How many of those Nature Crystals do we have now?" Sophia pressed.

"Two," Magnus replied.

Truth was, there were four. He wasn’t trying to hide it, just couldn’t explain the space issue - it wasn’t something he could talk about freely.

"I’m not keeping them from you. I just worry you’ll use them like the Water or Fire Crystals - once they’re active and can’t be shut down, it’s a waste."

His explanation got quiet nods from the women around him. Then Sophia asked again, "Just how many skills do you have? You heal people, control Crystal timing - how is it even possible? And we can’t do any of that!"

Seeing her mood shift, Magnus scanned the others. If the dozen squad leaders hadn’t been around, he might’ve mentioned the Life Crystal. But not now. That one’s different - using it means choosing who lives and who doesn’t. Too complicated.

So, he steered away from the question and pointed to the map. "There are two routes into Ashbrook Town. I want them covered, 24 hours. Best spots would be right here..."

He marked two black dots on the map, each about ten kilometers from Ashbrook. "Both spots are in the hills. I’m thinking at least two squads - twenty people - for each site. Stay hidden. If Ridgebreak Battalion or Springvale City makes a move, we’ll know right away and have time to respond."

"Long-term posts? On a mountain?" Sophia frowned.

Liana cut in, "Can’t we just send Evan’s squad up there?"

"I don’t trust them," Magnus shook his head. "Sure, they’re working with us now. But if a real fight breaks out, they’ll be the first to bail. It wouldn’t be their first time turning on someone."

The group fell silent - then suddenly, Abigail spoke up for the first time in days. "Captain, let me and Emma take the mountain watch duty."

It came out of nowhere; everyone was caught off guard. Magnus looked at her, brows raised. "You two want the post?"

Abigail glanced at her sister. Emma lowered her head, bit her lip, then said, "Yes. We’re fast - if anything happens, we can get back in time to warn you."

They sounded serious, dead set on it. But something tugged in Magnus’s chest. These sisters had been spending nights with him, sharing more than just words. Now sending them into danger made him hesitate.

Liana noticed and tried to smooth things over with a chuckle. "Come on, you two don’t need to go. You’ve already got a tougher job - taking care of our dear captain’s needs."

"Liana!"

That comment lit a fire. Abigail stood straight up, eyes locked on Liana. "What, you all think me and my sister are just... those kinds of women?"

Those kinds? No one had expected that. Liana was stunned. Everyone in the RV’s lounge froze. Charlotte shot Liana a look and quickly stepped in. "Abby, what are you saying? Don’t take it the wrong way. We never looked at you like that. We just thought - you’re closest to Magnus, it makes sense... It’s not like we can take your place. Please, don’t twist it."

"She’s right, I didn’t mean anything like that," Liana added quickly. "You’ve got it wrong."

"Taking care of a man..." Abigail’s eyes reddened - she looked up, refusing to let the tears fall. "You’re all women too. You know what it means, what it really means. So why is it always us and Sophia doing it? What do you actually see us as?"

Her words clashed - confused the others worse than anything. If you’re with Magnus, isn’t it normal to take care of him? Should someone else be doing it? Should we... all be doing it together? What does she even want?

What they didn’t know was what Abigail and Emma had been enduring behind closed doors. Serving Magnus - there was a storm they hadn’t spoken of.
