Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 257: A lesson for the elders
A boulder came crashing and almost smashed the statue. Fortunately, one of the tribe members who was working on it pulled it away at the right time or else their hours of hard work and resources would have gone to waste. Ruan Chanchan was filled with surprise when she saw the boulder falling over. She raised her head and looked at the elder who was standing on the cliff, and felt a wave of tiredness fall all over her body. She knew it.
I knew it!
Both Ruan Chanchan and Xiao Xi knew that these elders were going to cause trouble sooner or later. After all, if these stuck old geezers allowed her to do something without causing trouble, then they wouldn’t be able to stomach their last meal. Could they?
Sure enough, just as she had expected, the elders came rushing down with their eyes glazed with anger. They stared at Ruan Chanchan with a hint of anger as if she was doing something despicable, like robbing them of their underpants. Ruan Chanchan closed her eyes, as she knew that if she kept them open, she was going to roll them to the moon and back. These people... just what was their issue with her? Why couldn’t they just leave her alone?
Watching you deal with them, darling, I swear I feel like I am watching a daughter-and-mother-in-law series. Where you are the bullied daughter-in-law, and they are your mothers-in-law. Except you have quite some mothers-in-law to speak of.
"Elders, what is the meaning of this?" Chief Xie frowned upon seeing the actions of the elders. She, too, was getting tired of their repeated obstruction over everything that Ruan Chanchan did or wanted to do.
"What do you think you are doing?" Elder Pei asked without bothering to answer Chief Xie.
She turned and looked at Ruan Chanchan before adding in a soft yet threatening voice, "I am telling you, you better be a bit more restrained."
"Aiya!" Ruan Chanchan clapped her hands together and agreed at once. "You are absolutely right. I should be rather careful, but..." she trailed off. "Should you not be careful with the tribe leader as well? I mean, she just asked you a question, and you ignored her like she didn’t even matter. Is this blatant ignorance, or are you treating her like she is some common tribe member whom you can ignore? Not that you should be ignoring even the common ones."
As soon as Ruan Chanchan finished speaking, Chief Xie’s expression turned dark.
She had always been subjected to ignorance and sometimes even blatant mockery in the hands of the elders, but she had noticed that they had gotten more and more obnoxiously blatant with their disregard for her. She raised her voice and questioned again, "I asked the elders, what were you trying to do by dumping the boulder from such a height? Do you want to kill someone with the impact?"
"Are you going to answer my questions, or is it too much for the high and mighty elders to answer the questions of the tribe’s chief?"
This was the first time the chief had dared to talk back to the elders, and it was all thanks to Ruan Chanchan. After all, with her backing, the tribe, even the elders, would have to think twice.
"Chief Xie—"
"What!?" Chief Xie whipped her head and looked at Elder Guo. "What explanation do you have for your actions just now? Do you think just because you have the authority, you can do just about anything? What if these people had been hurt by what you did just now? What would you have done then, tell me?"
Elder Guo wanted to say that it didn’t matter to them if these people had been smashed to death, but before she could utter those shameless words, her hand was tugged from behind. The woman turned and looked behind her and saw Elder Lu shaking her head at her. She was stopping Elder Guo from speaking because she knew very well what this woman wanted to say.
She whispered in a low voice, "Don’t say those words... are you trying to make the tribe members lose their temper with us? They are already getting distant from us because Ruan Chanchan treats them better than we do. You better not say those words, got it?"
Elder Pei scoffed. She didn’t believe that these people could do anything to her, but upon being glared at by Elder Lu, she could only suppress her anger and suppress those words back in her throat. Instead, she said, "Are we the ones who are being disrespectful to you, or are you the one who is being disrespectful to us? Why did you not tell us that you wanted to establish a statue for the river guardian honour? Such a big decision without even corresponding with the elders? How can you do it?"
Like you were going to help us in any way, Ruan Chanchan thought scathingly with a hint of annoyance in her eyes. She had to admit that these elders really did have some audacity to question them when they didn’t even try to help them? Did they really not know that they were making the statue of the river guardian for offerings and worship? Or did they simply wait until they were done with their work to cause trouble?
Knowing the elders and their personalities, Ruan Chanchan had a very good idea that maybe these people were just waiting to cause trouble. Since they loved drama sooooo much.
Chief Xie frowned and dumbly asked, "You want to say that you didn’t see the tribe members building this statue in the middle of the clearing since the morning?"
The elders: "..."
Ruan Chanchan: "..." I love you, chief. I just cannot prove it yet.
Elder Qin cleared his throat and said to Chief Xie, "We did see that you were making something, but we didn’t know that you were making the statue of the river guardian, since it’s so tiny."
Ruan Chanchan and Chief Xie turned to look at the so-called miniature statue and then silently turned to look at the elders, as if saying—tiny? Are you sure this is tiny? If this is tiny, then we were a supreme being.
