Chapter 93: Infernal training?

Soon after the small duel, Seraphina left Shin’s house, as she needed to report back to Lilith.

She also told Shin that news of her protecting him would probably spread among the clans, so no one would bother trying to kill him anymore.

And with that, the boy was left alone.

A few minutes later, after making sure no one else was around, Lilel became visible in front of him.

She looked clearly worn out. Blocking Seraphina’s attack had made her "die" for the second time.

She was just a system entity, so as long as she kept a copy of herself saved somewhere, she could be quickly reinstalled. Of course, for that to happen, Shin would need to stay alive.

Even so, she was, in a way, still a person. And the entire process was mentally taxing. Dying and being recreated were not pleasant experiences.

That said, the small fairy didn’t seem to care much about her physical or mental exhaustion. In her mind, she was only focused on becoming even stronger.

The experience had helped her understand her own existence a little better and given her a million new ideas.

Besides that, the new ability she had created was the first time she had interfered with another person’s system.

Of course, all she had done was swap the ownership of items, but it was a first step.

At the very least, it proved that she did indeed have the power to interfere with other items.

"How are you feeling?" Shin asked.

"A little exhausted," Lilel admitted, "but I’m fine! Actually, I’m feeling great!"

She spun excitedly in the air. Her messy hair, pale skin, and deep dark circles didn’t exactly make her look fine.

But her eyes were still shining in an almost unsettling way.

"In fact, I’m eager to start your hellish training!" she said, remembering what Shin had promised.

The boy swallowed nervously. He hadn’t expected his break to last only one afternoon.

"Wait... wait... at least let me sleep a little. I just fought for my life," he said in a tired tone.

"Already trying to escape your training?" she asked, puffing her cheeks cutely.

But right after that, her expression softened into a gentle smile, and she landed on his shoulder.

"Don’t worry, I’m not that demanding. You can take a little time off."

Shin let out a relieved sigh.

"So next week, instead of training, you’ll study. I want you to learn everything about programming and how computers work in one week!

"That’s impossible," Shin replied immediately. "And why that request all of a sudden?"

"After dying, I realized that systems work in a way very similar to computers. So I think that if I learn more about them, I’ll be able to do even more incredible things!"

Lilel began flying around Shin excitedly. She always became animated when she thought about all the things she might be able to do in the future.

Her energy really seemed endless.

"Okay... but what does that have to do with me learning about it? You can study on your own, can’t you?"

"Yes... but also no," she replied, frowning as she tried to figure out how to explain it.

Shin often let Lilel use his phone whenever she wanted to look something up. Because of that, she had managed to learn many things about the world.

But it was also thanks to that that she had noticed something strange: she tended to forget the things she learned.

However, whenever she learned something that Shin already knew, she remembered it easily.

"I’m not exactly sure how it works, but our minds must be connected in some way," she concluded.

After hearing everything, Shin stayed silent for a moment, thinking about it.

If he relied on the knowledge he had from the game, there was nothing quite like Lilel. At first, he had thought she was like the advanced systems that developed their own personalities.

But she was different.

It was almost impossible to explain.

That said, she was undeniably useful. And she would probably become even more broken in the future.

"If that’s the case, I’ll do my best with the studying. But there’s no way to learn everything in one week."

"Okay! Then we’ll study until we can’t anymore!" Lilel said excitedly. "So you better buy a pot of coffee, so we don’t waste time sleeping."

Shin could already foresee a new kind of hell coming, but he smiled faintly. The feeling of pushing himself until his body couldn’t take it anymore was somewhat nostalgic.

They’re similar... he thought.

The realization made his face twist into a grimace.

It was better not to think about that.

"Aha! Anyway, were you able to analyze Seraphina’s dagger?"

"Yes, just as you expected, it’s a mythical weapon."

As soon as she spoke, Lilel created a system screen in front of Shin’s eyes, showing the details of the item.

[Blood Dagger - Mythical weapon]

[Description: A dagger that absorbs life force from each successful hit. Once enough energy is accumulated, it can switch to Healing Mode, restoring the wielder’s vitality.

Notice: The weapon’s aura changes color depending on its current mode: red for attack, green for healing.]

"But that wasn’t all. During the fight against the assassins, she used another item: a Protection Ring. She probably activated it as a precaution."

Once again, the item’s description appeared before Shin’s eyes.

[Item Name: Protection Ring - Epic Item]

[Description: A magical ring that creates a defensive barrier around the wearer when activated. Reduces incoming damage and mitigates harmful effects.]

"Wait, how did you manage to analyze the ring? She didn’t attack you with it..."

"Hehe! All I need to do is touch an item while its user is wearing it. I noticed she had activated the ring, so I approached secretly and touched it," Lilel said proudly.

"I see... that’s impressive."

Even without using the item-swapping ability, Shin could still evaluate what his opponent had during a fight.

It was truly a broken skill.

"More importantly, I think it’s time we loot the corpses," Shin said, pointing to the two bodies at his feet.

"Let’s go!" Lilel responded enthusiastically.

The two of them knelt to inspect the bodies. The first man wore defensive gear and had two rings:

First, Shin removed the rings. After someone was dead, anyone could claim ownership over his items, so as soon as he touched the ring, he received a notification asking if he wanted to claim the items.

And then he could see their description.

[Ring of protection(fire) - Rare Item]

[Description: boosts the wearer’s base defense against fire based magics. It also increases all base defense by 2 points.]

[Ring of Firestrike - Epic Item]

[Description: Creates a large fireball that engulfs everything in its area. Damage is proportional to the amount of mana poured into the ring.]

Notice: the item does not exclude its owner from the damage.]

The two rings could be somewhat used as a combo; they were not all that strong, but Shin wouldn’t complain.

Shin knelt beside the second body and carefully examined the assassin.

Hidden beneath a dark cloak, he spotted the assassin’s weapon: a sleek, black ninja-style sword with a curved blade designed for swift strikes.

Its surface was smooth and almost unnervingly precise, reflecting the faint light of the room.

Beside it were a few smaller tools, throwing knives, a set of smoke pellets, and a narrow sheath that likely held hidden blades, but they weren’t magical items. He took ownership of the few magical weapons the guy possessed.

[Shadow Kunai - Common Item.]

[Description: A balanced throwing weapon designed for speed and precision, slightly increasing the wielder’s attack rate.]

[Stealth Band - Rare Item]

[Description: Enhances agility and reflexes by 5 points for a limited amount of time.

Notice: time is proportional to owner level.]

Additionally, Shin found out he wore some defensive gear, but it was not magical. Still, he took it away, because it was some well-made gear.

All in all, nothing overwhelmingly powerful, actually, he couldn’t think of himself using any of them for long aside from the Epic Ring.

Maybe their better items were destroyed during the fight. Epic items often had strong effects, but they were usually single-use.

Shin let out a small sigh, looking over the loot.

"How the hell am I going to dispose of these bodies?" he muttered under his breath.

He hadn’t thought about it at first, but he couldn’t just throw it in the trash. Well, the probability that he could contact heaven about it, they definitely had some service to deal with that.

Besides, he could also sell the items for money.

Just then, a system notification popped up before him:

[SYSTEM NOTICE: Temporary shutdown initiated. The system has been overused to the point that it can no longer operate. Certain functions will be unavailable until reboot.]

Lilel clicked her tongue and pouted. "This system is so lazy!"

Shin sighed, shaking his head. "You’re the one who pushes it to its absolute limit."

"Why the hell does a system have a limit?" She asked, puffing her cheeks, annoyed.

"I don’t know, but I really need to sleep," Shin murmured, falling into his bed exhausted.
