"You look beautiful, Brother Hanjin," Xiao Hua told Lin Hanjing as he looked at Lin Hanjin who was sitting in front of the bronze mirror with his hair carefully pinned behind his ears, with two little braids on the side which were then joined behind the back of Lin Hanjing's head.

A red veil with a golden headdress adorned his head.

Xiao Hua had applied red rouge to Lin Hanjing's eyes and lips which made Lin Hanjing look even more charming.

"I told you all that this was not necessary," Lin Hanjing sighed as he looked at his reflection. He knew that unlike other grooms he was not a mer whose virtue was intact.

He believed that he did not deserve to be treated in the manner of a mer whose virtue was intact.

"Nonsense!" Xiao Zimo walked inside the room where Lin Hanjing was sitting. He placed a small tray of pastries which was not bigger than Lin Hanjing's mouth and said to him, "You should eat something, the wedding banquet is going to be busy. By then you will have no time to eat anything."

Lin Hanjing was too nervous to eat anything but when he thought about the weather and all the ceremonies that he had to go through, he could only stomach his nausea and eat the little dim sums that Xiao Zimo brought.

He raised his head as he picked up a dim sum and bit into it. However, as soon as his gaze met with his reflection, who was wearing the brilliant red robes, Lin Hanjing's eyes could not help but redden.

"Hey, why are you crying now?" Xiao Hua noticed that there was something wrong with Lin Hanjing's gaze and questioned in a quiet voice.

Lin Hanjing shook his head and replied, "It's nothing. It is just me being silly. When I was young, I was sold off as an accessory to the tavern by my parents."

"They kept repeating that they were doing this for my own good, making me feel bad and guilty when I refused to go with the owner of the tavern."

Lin Hanjing continued looking at the mirror and found himself looking at his childish self.

"So when I was brought to the tavern, I listened to everything that the owner said to me. Including —— agreeing to sell my body, because the owner told me that it would make my family happy who wanted to see me happy."

His head tilted to the side and his lips curled into a saddened smile, "However, in making others happy…I forgot to make a very important person happy." His own self, he completely forgot to make himself smile.

Lin Hanjing knew that he was foolish when he agreed to sell his body to the clients but he was so engrossed in the idea of being loved by his family that he completely threw caution to the wind.

He believed that he would return home once he earned enough money but that dream broke when he met with his mother on the street.

That woman not only refused to recognise him but also told him that she did not have a mer son named Lin Hanjing.

For his family, he sold himself until nothing was left and his mother went ahead and told him that she did not have a son named Lin Hanjing.

After years of delusion, it turned out that the family he was waiting for never existed. He had long been forgotten by them, while he was waiting for his family on the same spot where they left him —— his family had long walked away from that path and were no longer in sight.

For them, he no longer existed.

And for the sake of making his family happy, he cut off all routes for his escape.

With his virtue gone, which woman would even want him? Even if he had all the kindness and grace in the world, he didn't have that one thing that every woman wanted from a mer.

His virtue.

But now as Lin Hanjing sat in front of the bronze mirror while wearing a red veil, he couldn't help but feel emotional. He was finally getting married…he too would have his family.

Not the kind of family he hoped and prayed for, but Lin Hanjing knew that this family, which was given to him by the heavens, was much better.

"Brother Hanjing…." Xiao Hua and Xiao Zimo's eyes stung as they realised how something so small for others made Lin Hanjing so happy and grateful.

For mers who never lost their virtue getting married was not a big thing but for them who were once sold to the tavern—— for them, even the thought of getting married was something that they could not have because they knew it was just a dream in a bubble.

"It's alright," Lin Hanjing smiled at the two of them while glancing at his childish self who was smiling as well while looking at him through the mirror. "I am happy now, that's all that matters."

The sound of fireworks interrupted whatever Xiao Hua and Xiao Zimo wanted to say.

"We are here to take the groom!" Yu Dong announced with a gleeful smile as she looked at the mers, girls and boys standing in front of the house.

"You are not allowed to enter," a little mer said to Yu Dong and Yu Tong who was dressed as a bride. "Show your sincerity to the groom first."

As he finished speaking he reached out and held his hands in front of Yu Tong and Yu Dong, their smiles turned even wider when they saw the naughty kids acting as the door guards.

"Alright, I will show my sincerity to the groom," Yu Tong smiled happily as she took out a bunch of red packets and handed them to the kids, each packet held a silver tael.

The kids who received a silver tael were stunned at first but then they giggled happily. The little mer who spoke up in the beginning nodded sternly and said to Yu Tong, "You may enter, you are quite sincere to the groom."

"May your marriage be happy and filled with love!"

"Have a happy marriage, Aunt Tong!"

"Have lots of children, Aunt Tong!"

"Aunt Tong, may you be happy with Uncle Hanjing!"

"Be as close as closely knit clothes!"
