Grinding to Become the Master of the Universe-Chapter 48 - 37: C-Rank Contract (Part 2)
Qian Duoduo’s eyes went wide, then his face blossomed into a huge grin. He slapped his thigh hard but quickly stifled himself, just standing there with a broad, silent smile.
Shi Potian’s expression, on the other hand, was as calm as ever. He simply glanced over his data, then closed the light screen as if the numbers on it had nothing to do with him.
Qin Feng opened his report card as well.
A pale blue light screen unfolded before him.

A perfect score in academics and a perfect score in combat. Both were within his expectations.
In the Martial Arts Assessment, his low Life Force Index was a major weakness, earning him only 160 points. His rank of over 11,000 put him in the lower-middle tier among the 15,000 new students.
But because of his astonishing, crushing perfect score in the Combat Simulation, his total score was dragged up to an unbelievable level. His final overall rank actually broke into the top 1,000, landing at 994th place.
The main reason for this was that everyone else’s combat scores were simply too low.
’Once everyone else’s combat scores start to rise, if my Life Force Index hasn’t caught up, my rank will plummet. I might even end up worse off than before!’
’I have to get that C-rank contract, and fast.’
Qin Feng took a deep breath and continued reading down the screen.
As for his Improvement Ranking, there was no question that he’d be first.
His overall rank on the high school entrance exam had been over 67,000, and he was at the very bottom of the school’s rankings upon admission.
Now, he was 994th.
Such a meteoric rise was a rare sight in the entire history of Qi Yi High School.
While the students were still digesting their results, the holographic projection of Wu Shangfeng on the platform spoke again.
"Now, we will announce the list for the monthly exam’s Merit Point rewards."
The moment he finished speaking, a massive, golden holographic leaderboard unfurled dramatically at the front of the classroom, occupying the entire wall.
On the leaderboard, densely packed names and numbers were rapidly scrolling upward.
"The rules for this monthly exam’s Merit Point rewards are as follows:"
Wu Shangfeng’s voice explained, devoid of any emotion.
"First, individual subject rewards. For the Martial Arts Assessment and Combat Simulation, anyone who ranks first in the grade for either subject will be awarded 20 Merit Points. Those in the top ten will receive 15 points, and those in the top one hundred will receive 10 points. For anyone ranked below one hundred, as long as your rank has not dropped compared to your admission rank, you will receive a standard award of 3 Merit Points."
"Second, Improvement Ranking rewards. The student ranked first for improvement in the grade will be awarded 15 Merit Points. Those in the top ten will receive 10 points, and those in the top one hundred will receive 5 points. There are no other rewards for this category."
"Third, Overall Score Ranking rewards. Students in the top ten of the overall rankings will be awarded 20 Merit Points. Those in the top one hundred will receive 15 points, and those in the top one thousand will receive 5 points. For anyone ranked below one thousand, as long as your rank has not dropped compared to your admission rank, you will receive a standard award of 3 Merit Points."
"Anyone whose overall rank has dropped will receive no rewards and will, in fact, have Merit Points deducted based on the extent of their decline."
As the announcement of the rules concluded, the entire room erupted in an uproar.
These reward rules were, one could say, both brutal and compassionate.
They used generous rewards to motivate the top geniuses to compete for glory, while also providing a safety net of "effort points" to look after the less-talented but sufficiently hardworking students.
The only ones punished were the "slackers"—those who were complacent and regressed instead of improving.
The scrolling of the leaderboard began to slow.
One by one, familiar names appeared on it.
[Qian Duoduo. Overall Rank: 3157, 3 Merit Points awarded. Improvement Rank: 1241, no reward. Martial Arts Assessment Rank: 2899, 3 Merit Points. Combat Simulation Rank: 755, 3 Merit Points. Total Merit Points earned this exam: 9.]
Qian Duoduo saw his name and just chuckled to himself, seeming quite satisfied with the result.
Adding the 10 points from his previous combat class, his total Merit Points were now 19.
[Chu Lan. Overall Rank: 89, 15 Merit Points awarded. Improvement Rank: 1156, no reward. Martial Arts Assessment Rank: 78, 5 Merit Points. Combat Simulation Rank: 92, 5 Merit Points. Total Merit Points earned this exam: 25.]
As the class president, Chu Lan’s results were quite outstanding; his overall score and both individual martial arts subjects all broke into the grade’s top 100.
Adding the 20 points from combat class, his total Merit Points reached 45, drawing a wave of envious gazes.
Next was Shi Potian’s name.
[Shi Potian. Overall Rank: 37, 15 Merit Points awarded. Improvement Rank: N/A. Martial Arts Assessment Rank: 8, 15 Merit Points awarded. Combat Simulation Rank: 1322, no reward. Total Merit Points earned this exam: 30.]
Shi Potian’s Martial Arts Assessment had dominantly broken into the grade’s top ten, earning him a large individual subject reward.
