Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 40: Black Cultist
Li Wei smiled. "It’s dealt with."
Vince shook his head. "It’s not over. That was just a Low Level Nightmare."
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE!
Hearing a scraping sound, Li Wei turned his head, casting a Small Fireball Technique to illuminate the path ahead.
Lair, who had been lying on the ground, was back on his feet.
But something about him seemed off.
Vince’s expression turned grim. "Damn it, the Nightmare is controlling Lair’s body!"
Lair raised his hand, and the Fire Element coalesced before him into a small Fireball.
WHOOSH!
The small Fireball shot toward the two of them.
BANG!
The Magic Shield blocked the small Fireball, vibrating unceasingly.
Vince saw a black-robed figure appear behind Lair and shouted in fury, "Damn Yubis Cultist!"
He raised his Magic Staff, ignoring Lair’s assault and began Casting his own attack.
"Sharp Thorn!"
Thorn vines covered in sharp spikes erupted from the ground, coiling around the black-robed figure like a great python.
Two figures appeared in front of the Black Cultist, and the Thorny Python halted.
Vince stared at the Black Cultist, his heart filled with indecision.
The two figures blocking the Black Cultist were Apprentice Mages from the Mage Tower.
He didn’t dare to kill them, nor could he.
Left with no choice, Vince could only cancel the Magic.
The Thorny Python dissipated into motes of green Grass Element, vanishing into the air.
The Black Cultist looked at Vince and Li Wei and spoke in a raspy voice, "We both plead with Divine Spirits for Power. Why do you target me?"
Vince retorted angrily, "You worship an Evil God, one who will only bring disaster to the world!"
The Black Cultist laughed. "Have the wars waged by the Church of the Gods in the name of Divine Spirits been so few? How many people have they brought disaster upon? Yet no one moves to punish them."
He muttered, "So, it is all because of Power!" 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Because the Church of the Gods is powerful enough, they can do whatever they please!"
"When the Yubis Sect becomes powerful enough, then we Yubis Cultists will also be revered by the masses!"
"God! Please grant me Power!"
A dim, red light began to glow from the end of the sewer.
Several blood-drained corpses were piled on the ground, their organs removed and arranged around them.
The dim, red light grew brighter.
Li Wei and Vince also saw the crimson light emanating from around the corner.
They both had a bad feeling.
Vince exclaimed in shock and anger, "Damn it, he’s already completed the Blood Sacrifice!"
Li Wei knew he couldn’t hide his strength any longer.
In less than three seconds, a Small Fireball Technique—three times its normal power—shot forth.
Vince was stunned. He hadn’t expected Li Wei to be so decisive and ruthless.
A second later, he realized he had misjudged Li Wei.
The small Fireball curved around the two Apprentice Mages and struck the Black Cultist standing behind them.
BOOM!
The Small Fireball Technique, its power far exceeding that of ordinary Tier Zero Magic, exploded with a force that instantly sent the Black Cultist flying several meters.
The two Apprentice Mages were caught in the blast, tumbling wretchedly to the ground.
Thankfully, their lives were not in danger.
The Black Cultist’s robes were blasted to shreds, revealing his pale body underneath.
He lay in the sewage, wailing, half his body mangled by the Fireball.
Vince’s face lit up with joy. "Excellent!"
"Leave the rest to me!"
Grass Element gathered before Vince, forming into a spell.
A ball of crimson light flew from the end of the sewer and sank into the Black Cultist’s body.
The wailing Black Cultist let out a horrific scream. His skin tore and his flesh roiled, and in the blink of an eye, he had transformed into a deformed monster over two meters tall.
His right arm swelled to a massive size, its shoulder shoving his neck and head to the left.
His head dangled from his shoulder like a grotesque tumor.
"Sharp Thorn!"
The Thorny Python erupted from the ground, coiling around the transformed Black Cultist.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
As the Thorny Python constricted, its sharp barbs dug deep into the Black Cultist’s flesh. The immense force was so great it began to warp the cultist’s body.
RRRIP!
An impossibly thick right arm tore through the Thorny Python, ripping the massive vines apart.
The severed vines dissolved into scattered Grass Element, which then dissipated into the air.
A look of panic crossed Vince’s face.
"Damn it! He broke through to Tier Two!"
WHOOSH!
A small Fireball shot forward, striking the monster the Black Cultist had become.
BANG!
A violent explosion occurred, and its fiery light instantly filled the sewer.
Foul-smelling sewage splattered against the walls.
The spreading stench made Li Wei want to vomit.
After the light from the explosion faded, the residual flames illuminated the monster’s form.
Even the incredibly powerful Small Fireball Technique had failed to kill the monster.
The monster’s right arm was scorched black where it had blocked the attack.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
Fragments of charred skin flaked away, revealing the crimson flesh beneath.
"ROAR! I... WILL... KILL... YOU!"
The Black Cultist had lost his sanity. Only a bloodthirsty madness remained in his eyes as he stared fixedly at Li Wei.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
The monster charged toward Li Wei with heavy strides.
Suddenly, Li Wei sensed the surrounding Earth Element growing agitated. A powerful Magic Fluctuation emanated from above.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
The brickwork of the sewer shattered as several impossibly thick Rock Pillars burst through the walls, impaling the monster.
SPLAT!
In an instant, the immense force tore the monster to shreds.
The intersecting Rock Pillars now barred the sewer, the monster’s corpse crushed between them.
Vince said in pleasant surprise, "Mage Allen!"
CRACK!
He heard a sound. Taking the Talisman Stone from his pocket, he saw that the white stone had shattered.
Up on the surface, Allen stood above them, retrieving his Magic Staff that had been planted in the ground.
He smiled. "It’s over."
The Talisman Stone’s purpose was for tracking. Once the Black Cultist was discovered, Allen could use the stone to pinpoint the target’s location and strike from a distance.
This way, even if Vince and Li Wei had been captured by the Black Cultist, Allen could still have dealt with the enemy with ease.
Li Wei also let out a sigh of relief. ’It’s finally over.’
The instant he let his guard down, a Nightmare lunged out from the sewage and attacked him.
CRACK!
The Nightmare slammed into his Magic Shield. The shield fluctuated violently before a shattering sound rang out.
Li Wei’s heart seized.
BANG!
The blue light emanating from the Nightmare pressed against Li Wei’s body, trying to force its way inside him.
It was blocked by his Invisible Armor.
Seeing this, Li Wei calmed himself.
He began Casting a Small Fireball Technique.
It took Vince several seconds after Li Wei was attacked to react.
He shouted, "Li Wei!"
’There’s another Nightmare!’
Vince remembered—it was the Nightmare that had possessed Lair’s body.
A twisted face pressed against Li Wei, blocked by the Invisible Armor.
The Black Cultist’s roars and whispers echoed from within the Nightmare.
"I... WILL... KILL... YOU!"
Li Wei looked at the contorted face before him and raised the rapidly expanding Fireball in his hand.
Ignoring the limits of the Magic Model, he frantically poured his Mana into the Fireball.
"Die!"
BOOM!
The Fireball exploded, its fiery light engulfing both the Nightmare and Li Wei.
A self-detonating Fireball, reaching five times the power of a Small Fireball Technique.
Its power was comparable to a Tier One Fireball Technique!
CRACK!
His Invisible Armor shattered. The hot wind seared his cheeks, making his clothes cling tightly to his body.
The Nightmare the Black Cultist had become vanished.
Everything was finally over.
Vince looked at Li Wei, who was now sitting on the ground, and called out from a distance, "Li Wei, are you alright?"
He was afraid the Nightmare had possessed Li Wei.
Li Wei shook his head, stood up, patted off the dust, and said, "I’m fine."
He glanced at Vince, looking as if he wanted to say something but thought better of it.
After he killed the Black Cultist, a new memory had appeared in his mind—one that wasn’t his.
