Chapter 880: Proxy War (Ko-fi Bonus Chapter)

The cool breeze gently brushed against Anna’s face, slowly waking her from her deep slumber.

Her eyelids trembled ever so slightly, and she gradually opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry, but it soon focused.

The first thing she saw was the starry night sky and the twin moons, Selene and Luna, shining a ghostly light below.

She was momentarily confused, wondering what had happened to her.

Slowly, she started to recall her memories.

Right, I met Adam... Then, we flew to his cottage...

As the fog cleared from her mind, her eyes widened in surprise.

What... what did he do to me?

Before she could think further, a sharp pain radiated from inside her mind—from deep within her soul.

She grimaced in pain, her hand subconsciously drawn to her forehead. As she massaged her temples, she slowly sat up.

Looking around, she found that she was still on the giant boulder by the pond. To her right, a familiar figure was seated, looking at her with a relieved smile.

"Adam, you..." She grimaced. The searing headache sent pangs of discomfort throughout her body. "What did you do?"

The raven-haired youth said softly, "Nothing much. I just checked your spirit sea."

"You what?!" Anna’s eyes widened in shock. "Why would you do that?! Do you know how—ugh..."

Before she could even reprimand her little brother, her head started to throb from pain again.

"Here, drink this." Adam retrieved a round crystal bottle from his earrings and presented it to her.

Anna glanced at the bottle with a pained expression on her face. It contained some sort of blue liquid within that shimmered with tiny specks of white light.

Almost as if it contained a sea of stars.

"What is this?" She reached out for the bottle and uncorked it. "This better help."

Without hesitation, she drank the potion in one go.

She felt the effects almost instantly.

Though the pain buried deep inside her mind did not vanish entirely, it dulled significantly. Like a storm settling into a gentle rain.

A wave of soothing coolness washed through her body, untangling the threads of pain that had gripped her nerves because of what her brother had done.

The potion had worked. It was potent and precise.

It had mended much of the pain in her nervous system, calming her mind and soothing her soul.

What remained was a manageable ache.

She turned to Adam with a dark look on her face. "You better have a good reason."

Adam felt a chill crawl down his spine when he saw that look on Anna’s face. He remembered that look...

It was the look she used to give him before discipling him with a slipper, or a stick, or whatever else she could find her hands on.

The raven-haired youth raised his hands, gesturing for her to calm down. "I can explain. Just hear me out."

Anna’s eyes narrowed. She motioned for him to continue.

Adam took a deep breath as he turned towards the pond. Gazing at the reflection of the twin moons on its surface, he muttered in a somber mood, "I had to make sure she didn’t cast any spell on you."

"She?" Anna’s brows furrowed into a knot. "Adam, who are you talking about?"

The raven-haired youth first weaved a series of hand seals, erecting a mana barrier around the two. This would prevent any sound from escaping.

Furthermore, the barrier even had anti-divination properties to a certain extent.

Seeing him perform such an action caused Anna to frown even more. She couldn’t help but wonder just what had gotten into Adam.

The raven-haired youth turned to her and spoke in a grave voice, "The Headmistress of the Clover Academy, Helene Godfrey."

Anna’s pupils constricted.

"...What?" Anna recalled the kind elderly woman who had hosted her and her entourage in Moon City.

But going by what Adam had just divulged, Headmistress Godfrey may not have been all that kind at all.

And not for a single moment did Anna doubt him.

Adam nodded solemnly. "She’s not who you think she is. She... she’s not who I thought she was either." His expression turned bitter as he said the last part.

Sensing the implications of his words, Anna felt a foreboding feeling grip her heart.

Her face was riddled with concern, and she softly said, "Adam, is... everything alright? Did you get yourself into some sort of trouble?"

Adam flashed a wry smile. "Anna... I’m in a whole world of trouble, to be honest."

Anna’s eyes trembled. She subconsciously placed her reassuring hand on his shoulder and gently said, "What is it? You can tell me."

Adam was a Mana Vortex Magus, and by his own admission, a very strong and fearsome one at that.

For even him to be in trouble... just what could have possibly happened?

The raven-haired youth struggled to decide whether to disclose everything or not.

If he did, how much of it should he reveal? After all, even knowing such information could put her in a considerable amount of danger.

But at the same time, this was the first time that Adam felt he could open up to someone.

After all, the person before him was his sister. She was someone whom he trusted with his life.

"Adam?" the crimson-haired princess called out softly. "You can tell me."

The raven-haired youth gazed at her ruby eyes and could see genuine concern flicker in them.

He smiled.

Yeah... it’s not nice to bottle up everything inside of me. Who knows? Maybe my shoulders will loosen up a little after talking to her.

"Alright." Adam nodded. He took a deep breath and finally began.

"I am part of a secret order that is thousands of years old. We have been fighting a battle with an evil cult in the shadows."

He paused for a moment, recalling the battles he had participated in. "The Duskfall Incident, the Blackshore Incident... these were all proxy wars fought between the secret order and the cult."

Anna’s pupils constricted. "A proxy war with the armed forces of Ravenfell as chess pieces... Just what kind of organization have you joined?!"

Adam flashed a mysterious smile. "It’s a secret."

Without giving her a chance for a follow-up question, he continued, "After the Blackshore Incident, I traveled to the Southern Federation and did some digging. And that’s when I found out about Helene Godfrey."

Anna covered her mouth and silently gasped. "You mean to say..."

"Yes." The raven-haired youth nodded, his eyes flashing with conflicting emotions.

"She’s part of the evil cult I’ve been fighting for the past decade."
