Grand Ascension-Chapter 118: Not Ever
Makun walked towards the fence, thinking about his next steps.
Barry said there had been nine guards in total, now six with three of them dead by now, They had good equipment, from machine guns to grenades, they were ready for whatever transpired.
As for what transpired inside, he had no idea, he knew they brought people here, kidnappings of some sort, but he had no idea what happened inside, they were always blocked out here.
The people who came here mostly came late at night and went out in the morning, They were either from middle class or very affluent families, and came here two to three times per week.
As to why he was out in the wild with Xavier and Gaspar, he had told Makun, Makun knew of Mr. Jones’ order, their suspicions and the fact that they had to be back in less than an hour, if not then Mr. Jones had to be alerted.
30 minutes had passed. Makun had to make his way into the fence, he knew it.
How, he had yet to decide. There were two solutions, he could either sneak in, that is kill every guard in absolute silence, and sneak into the chalet, or he could cause a commotion and attract the attention of people in the chalet.
The reason he considered the second option was so that if Mr. Jones or basically any other disconnected came out of the chalet, he could catch them and use them as hostages to get the most out of everyone present.
So it was either he took them by surprise, or searched for a stake by capturing them.
The first one, no doubt. He had decided.
He did not know what was in the chalet, and as someone paranoid and cautious, he could not just barge in, alerting them and giving time to prepare whatever they had.
As such, in slow steps, under the moonlight, Makun reached the fence.
...
45 minutes had passed ever since Barry, Xavier and Gaspar went out, they still had not returned, suspicions were rising among the group.
Was there really someone out there? Mike asked himself.
Maybe Barry had been right and there really was someone who had been east of the fence, they had to wait some more before alerting Mr. Jones and checking out what was happening.
However Mike felt like he should act now, gather everyone and come up with countermeasures for any unwanted situation.
"Rex." He called out.
Silence.
"Rex!" He called again, still no one answered.
The space behind the fence was quite massive, and the guards guarded both in front and behind the chalet, even so, Rex should have heard him and answered, there was something wrong.
His grip tightened around his machine gun, with slow steps, he slowly walked west to where Rex was supposed to be.
He reached there and his eyes could only widen, Rex lay on the floor a gaping hole in his stomach.
"AT-"
Snap!
Mike felt his neck snap out of nowhere before he could even alert the others, not like there were people left to alert.
He did not even have the chance to see the man who stood over him who had snapped his neck.
Makun stood over Mike’s body, it had been difficult but in 6 minutes he had managed to kill the 6 remaining guards effectively without attracting any attention.
His luck had almost run out, Rex had dropped his gun when caught off guard by Makun, this could have alerted the people inside, luckily, he took care of it in all tranquillity.
He shifted his gaze from Mike’s lifeless body to the chalet, It was bigger than what he had thought, the wooden walls were made of extremely good quality he could tell with a glance.
It really is for rich people. He noted.
But that did not matter, rich or not, he had to complete his mission.
He tranquilly walked towards the chalet, not knowing what he expected from inside it.
Makun pushed the door open to be greeted by warm lights that spilled through the chalet.
This is it, the answers.
He slowly walked past the threshold, but as he passed through it, his eyes narrowed. He had felt a frequency shift.
This was not normal, from the guards, to Mr. and Mrs. Jones none of them were mystics, none of them practised and from what he knew, only practitioners had access to the veil.
He would not say he understood what the veil was, nor would he say he knew how the veil worked, but if Makun was certain of something, it was the fact that non-practitioners had no access to the veil.
He was certain of it till now, Mr. and Mrs. Jones were not practitioners but they had gone in, this could only mean there was a gap in what he had to learn.
The fact that he felt a frequency shift here changed a lot of it. First, he was sure of it.
It is mystic related. The frequency shift meant that the disappearances were mystic related. Secondly, the scale of danger increased, with the frequency shift, he was sure to meet mystics here, The tiers and grades, he was not sure but if it was an adept, he was done for, Danielle was not here to provide support.
Thirdly, he was not even sure he was in the chalet he was looking at outside, His knowledge of the veil was minimal, but every time he had experienced such a shift, the place had really shifted.
A small corridor in VEB transformed into an arena, a lift transformed into a whole underground city at MIO, stairs transformed into a rogue flea market at Stone Bar, such examples he had many.
It could even be an organisation similar to those running the night market, where he just entered a whole other ecosystem, without any invitation backed by powerful backers.
Fuck!
He wanted to go out, he knew it was the smartest choice, to leave this place, and call for backup however if he left, they were going to notice they have been found and vacate the chalet.
He also knew that he had already succeeded in his mission, The disappearances were mystic related, he had confirmed it with this hideout.
However Makun’s feet did not take a single step back, If he was so scared of the unknown then how was he going to regain his freedom, how was he going to get stronger, face the Eyed Hand.
As a warrior, he was programmed to fight, as a berserk, he was destined to destroy.
He could not go back, not now, not ever.
He advanced through the tiny corridor.
