Chapter 574: Demon Expedition

As soon as the Supreme Elders gave permission, the core disciples acted.

With the appearance of the core disciples, the peaceful town turned chaotic, and no one understood what was happening.

In the eyes of the core disciples, mortals were just ants; however, since there were Night Demons mixed in with them, they could not randomly kill them, as the worth of the dead Night Demons would be greatly reduced.

So, they no longer bothered to check the identity of the target they captured. For them, every moving figure was a target. Each living Night Demon was worth so many Contribution Points that it was foolish to waste time confirming whether the person was human or not. Capture first, check later.

"Contribution points, contribution points!" someone laughed madly as he knocked down three villagers with a single palm strike, throwing seals on their bodies before dragging them into a cage.

"Don’t let anyone escape!" another shouted, grabbing even crying children and tossing them toward the suppression arrays without a second thought.

Mortals screamed and ran, but with the barrier covering the town, there was no way out.

"Kai, Lyra and I will knock out everyone. You and Kael imprison them!" Veylen shouted, his voice loud and commanding as he jumped off the Greenfire Boat.

"Got it." Ethan nodded calmly.

Even though Ethan was thinking of saving Felix first, currently, he was being watched by the three Supreme Elders, and thus, he couldn’t act rashly.

So, for now, he decided to focus on the Demon Expedition and worry about Felix later when no one was looking at him.

Right behind their leader, Lyra blurred through the streets, striking with precision. Her blows landed on necks and temples, leaving victims unconscious in the blink of an eye.

Veylen used wide-range attacks, knocking entire groups to the ground with waves of wind and spirit force.

Ethan and Kael followed behind. Kael’s talismans lit up, forming temporary prisons wherever the unconscious were piled up. With every seal activated, groups of mortals were trapped in glowing cages, unable to move.

As for Ethan, he was protecting Kael from the Night Demons that occasionally sneaked an attack on him.

’Being a formation master is quite helpful in demon expeditions.’

Looking at the unconscious mortals in the glowing cages, Ethan got an itch to become a formation master.

Of course, the reason for that itch was that for him, gaining mastery in any profession was quite easy.

’All I have to do is nurture the Spirit Plants that are used as the ingredients for the formations.’

Ethan only thought about it for a moment before focusing on protecting Kael.

’Swiish’

’Swiish’

Like Felix said earlier, there were quite a lot of Night Demons in the town. Just Ethan alone stopped more than five Night Demons that had been sneaking toward Kael.

However, their cultivation was only at the Demon Foundation Realm, and with Ethan’s senses and his Golden Core strength, he easily knocked them unconscious before tossing them into the glowing cages.

’Sorry. I will save you as soon as possible.’

Ethan apologised in his heart. This wasn’t the time for impulsive decisions.

’Damn it...’

On the other hand, inside Ethan’s shadow, Zepharis seethed, his killing intent burning hot at the sight of the core disciples manhandling his people.

If Ethan hadn’t forbidden him from emerging, with his current strength and the abilities of a Night Demon, he could have easily slaughtered half of them.

But Ethan’s voice was firm—once Zepharis appeared, his entire plan of using the Greenfire Sect for his future goals would collapse.

In less than an incense stick, a single street was filled with hundreds of captured townsfolk.

"Good! Keep going!" Veylen’s excited voice echoed, his eyes glowing with greed at the thought of Contribution Points.

Ethan, however, stayed silent. His movements were precise, his face calm.

While the others treated mortals and demons the same, Ethan’s Azure Snake Eyes quietly marked every person who carried the faintest trace of demonic aura.

No one noticed, and even if they had noticed, Ethan had no intention of explaining.

’It is time.’

When Ethan entered one of the houses to check for survivors, he quietly used his communication talisman, sending out the signal to execute his plan to save the Night Demons.

’I hope they won’t be late.’

Once he was done, he stepped out of the house—only to see a disciple dragging a struggling woman by her hair.

’They’re blinded by greed.’

Even though his anger was suppressed by the [Radiant Clear Heart], Ethan couldn’t stand the sight. Without hesitation, he appeared beside the disciple and grabbed his wrist.

"There is no need to be a barbarian."

Ethan’s grip tightened until the disciple winced, forced to release the woman’s hair.

"Y-you..." the disciple glared furiously, but he could sense the pressure coming from Ethan and didn’t dare push further.

"Since you captured her first, I won’t steal her." Ethan’s voice was flat as he gently tapped the woman’s neck, knocking her unconscious before tossing her back to the disciple.

There was a rule among them—disciples couldn’t steal each other’s captures. Ethan had no intention of causing unnecessary trouble when his real plan was already in motion.

He simply returned to assisting Kael, combing through the houses for more people in hiding.

All across the town, disciples moved like hunters. Screams echoed through the streets.

One by one, the townsfolk were dragged out, unconscious, until the entire place looked like a prison yard.

Above them, the Greenfire Boat loomed, humming with spiritual light, its emerald glow blanketing the chaos below.

Time passed quickly. In just ten minutes, every single person in the town was captured. Each group now stood before their own pile of unconscious captives, with Night Demons hidden among them.

Finally, one of the disciples shouted, "Holy Son, please help us identify the Night Demons!"

The Night Demons that had tried sneak attacks were already locked away separately. But as for the larger groups of captives, the demons were perfectly blended among the humans. The disciples had no way of telling them apart.

Which was why they needed Felix, and thus, all eyes turned toward him.
